Live Ultimate Team - How is your team doing?

Hi all,

I've been getting into Live Ultimate Team, and it's a good time.

After beating the Warriors (First challenge), I received a Draymond Green card. So that was nice. Currently, my starting lineup is:

C: Tyler Zeller
PF: Draymond Green
F: Chris Johnson
SG: James Harden
PG: Terry Rozier

Rozier and Zeller are overachieving..... big time. I only have Harden on contract for another 4 games, so I am hoping to rack up the gold coins in order to get a good replacement. One problem I have: In two games (That I was winning by a lot) for some reason the internet connection was lost, while it didn't give me a loss.. it spent contracts for my players... huge bummer. Hopefully they can fix that somehow.

I'm 5-0 at this point.

I've just created my team, but I'm loving that this year, it starts you out with the basic assets for your favourite team. No random jerseys or home arena; my favourite team is naturally set as the Bulls, so I've started out with the United Center, the Bulls' Association and Icon jerseys, and their logo. I'm not as excited about getting Kris Dunn and Fred Hoiberg, but it's part of the package I guess.

Yeah I love the format. The only problem that I had was losing my contracts because of a connection issue. Other than that, I love this mode. It's simple where it should be, and you can dive right in.

Ah yes. That's happened to me in Live and 2K in the past before. Always a bummer when you waste contracts on a connection issue or game crash.

I'm a LUT addict and started the hashtag #LUTologist on Twitter (given to a good LUT player). Anyway, the mode doesn't feel like a cash grab this year and perhaps my Twitch rant calling them out on Live 16 had an affect on that. You can legit play, earn good cards, and have a solid team w/o spending a dime.

But, as a certified #LUTologist, and the fact that the gameplay is finally the same as Play Now, I will invest some money on packs and bundles this year. I went ahead and bought 12K points ($99.99) but only used 1500 of it to take advantage of the 2 for 1 deal. So after 10 packs opened and still 10500 points left that I'm saving for hopefully legend bundles, here's my squad.

Avery Bradley - SG
Zach Lavine - SF (He barely missed being a gold card. He's a 76 silver but his stats are insane! 95 dunk and 79 3pt!)
Myles Turner - PF
Cappela - C

Bench has solid gold players like D. Wade.

Oh trust me. I try to do #TeamNoMoneySpent and I did that with Madden 17 and after playing for months up until after SB, I had a good squad that was like 87 OVR.

Bradley is a beast. He'll drive and dunk on people lol!

You have had better luck. I got Draymond Green on a rental (Like 3 games or something), Darren Collison, Lavoy Allen, and Luke Kennard.

Losing Harden hurts, I got Darren Collison... but I may still start Rozier, he's been a beast for me. I refuse to buy VC, so I am at about 7000 coins.. maybe I can get lucky getting a good player for cheap via auction win...

I'm actually having a good time with this mode.

I've played 62 of the 145 challenges available so far. The League Heroes challenge has been such a grind and I'm in it for the long haul. During the week I'm figuring about a team a day since each team challenge is 4 games with each game taking about 30 mins to finish. My boy Dboygamez compiled a list from the community on what cards/players we get for each challenge and yeah, it'll be worth it in the end.

There's a ton of solid gold players. I highly recommend Devin Booker. His 60's dunk rating makes no sense since he did two highlight reel type dunks for me. He's a beast! Kemba Walker is solid too with his 88 dribbling. If you can get an IT4 elite card, he's also fun to play with because he plays just like he does in real life. I love the signature anis they have for him especially when he does a floater where he leans back.

So ultimate team is a little different from live 15. What do I do with the contracts? I couldn't apply them on Curry or harden and I can't seem to find contract information on my other players. Do you get to keep your bronze players forever?

They don't work on leased players, like special cards. They work on guys like Rozier, I extended him 7 games.

Andrew, can you sticky this thread? It's not favoritism to anyone in anyway, i feel like it deserves a sticky because it is a mode that I think a lot of people will play

My Ultimate goal is to get Iverson and Erving later on. I am assuming they still have the classic players in Ultimate Team...

I will be devastated if they are not in it... it's why I am playing the mode.

Legends are only a matter of time and I even predict Legend bundles will release this weekend. Payton has been in past LUT.

How's the coin situation for you guys? I'm winning about 800 per game. Is that enough to save up for more packs?

Contracts work on all levels of cards except for limited time cards like the Harden we got for 10 games those are loaners.

I'm working on League Heroes and each game other than the last for each team has netted me about 1700 coins. Those challenges will be the best way to earn coin and get good cards. The Southeast division reward is a 84 John Wall that's the same as his base elite card.

I worked the AH early this past weekend. Most I spent on was Kawhi for 80K. But I got a Cousins for 17K which is considered a snipe. Greek Freek for 11K, Wall for 27K, etc. You just gotta work it man. Patience is key other than the obvious (earning coins through games or selling other cards).

There are legends in pro am including AI, Admiral, Metta, Payton, Kemp, and Magic. Plus they have jerseys for Rodman and Oscar Robertson in the game as well so I would expect all of them to be part of UT

I swear, my rant of Live 16 when I called EA out on making LUT cash grab cuz of how they designed the challenges to be difficult which encouraged people to buy packs must've resonated with them cuz they actually made these challenges quite easy and designed it so that you can build an elite team w/o spending a single penny. Major major kudos to them.

I tried the featured rookie challenge and was confused when I was playing at home on the Lakers court and both teams were wearing Lakers home jerseys. Also everyone on the other team was wearing #0 except for Kyle kuzma who actually wears 0.

I tried to win it without using a harden game but wound up losing by 3. CPU had some pretty cheap plays including the one inbounds play where the pg comes off a down screen and your guy lays on the screen or stops and they get a wide open 3. Then my team was unable to intentionally foul at the end. Very frustrating.

Then I brought harden in and wrecked them by 20 points.

Next time I'm going to do the bench challenge for a silver pack then the other rookie challenge that requires two silver players

Playstyle cards are needed for the Masters challenges for example. In order to do the masters challenge for the 90ovr Magic Johnson card, you will need 3 "Slasher" playstyle cards (shield slashed in half) plus the Western & Eastern heroes cards, Anthony Davis & Giannis respectively. Once again, Dboygamez on YT has a really good video explaining what each playstyle cards do.

The bidding war at the end shot it up to 1300 and I wound up getting Monroe for 900 instead.

Yup you get a 90ovr Payton and yes you'll not only need the Western/Eastern Conference heroes to play the challenges but also "Backcourt Defender" playstyle cards in order to play the challenges. He's a freakin beast to say the least. I also already got Stockton. I'm 2 games out of 10 for the Magic Johnson masters.

Fuuuu what a grind. Are these legends considered "elite" cards that you can't extend like the Harden card? That would suck to have to go through all that effort only to get them for 10 games or less

actually, each team has 4 games to play. so 120 games plus however many for the divisions and conferences.
