The One

Anyone care to speculate what the mode might be? I'm guessing we'll find out more at EA Play, but there's still time for guesses in between now and then.

That's what would make sense. They already have a career mode as a starting point, adding some cutscenes and some scripted video and a story would be fairly easy compared to creating a whole new mode from scratch

I remember reading somewhere from the guys who make FIFA that a story cut scene driven "MyCareer" mode was not possible on the ignite engine. That's why they switched to frostbite and were able to implement one. If NBA live 18 has the ONE being the same, wouldn't that mean it's on frostbite? Although every YouTuber ect believes it's still ignite.

 Its a Lonzo Ball specific career mode and you play as the Messiah of basketball himself. :bowdown2:

I can just see the opening scene now...

Whether or not it's a replacement for Rising Star, it does sound like a single player mode.

I hope it isn't a storyline. That leads to game scripting. Game scripting sucks big time.

I already have a real life. If I want to live a fake life I'd get The Sims.

Definitely a new Rising Star mode. I think they revamped it because it was stale in the previous versions. Hopefully there's a lot more perks and things to do in the mode.

I think it would be for the best if they had two separate single player experiences, sort of like what 2K has done with the franchise experience in MyLEAGUE and MyGM (and what I'd actually like to see them do with MyCAREER); a more straightforward Rising Star mode, and some kind of in-depth experience with The One, if indeed that's what it is.

Someone on os posted a rumor that the Drew League could be implemented somehow in the game. Reason being at the bottom of the Drew League website it now has an EA Sports logo.
Image

Maybe we get some sort of involvement as a semi pro player? Either that or it could replace pro am, which would be fun.

I don't remember where or when but I think I remember hearing Drew League as a rumor sometime in the last year or two.

It could be a replacement/branding of pro-am, but it would be a cool alternative or solution to starting in high school and college. You could throw your name into the draft after as many drew league seasons as you want as you get older. You then get a chance to get picked on the second round or be a UDFA which makes more sense than you being a 57 rated starter on an NBA team.

Would be sick if they allowed you to play online with actual NBA players in live run like in Live 10.

Notice that the One logo has a gold main color that matches the One on the Drew League logo

Although EA hasn't confirmed it, last year there was an article on the Drew League website stating that it had a presence in the next NBA Live game. I'm guessing it'll be a Pro-Am venue.

The One, which is our new way to play. It’s all about you and your path through the NBA and the streets. We’re really excited to show a little sneak peak of that. We think it’s a pretty big differentiator between what we’re offering as a player experience and what other sports games have.

From the sounds of it, it'll provide some integration across modes. I'm encouraged by the mention of revamping other modes; hopefully, it means they all got some attention.

That certainly makes it sound like a story-driven career mode.

Doesn't look very story driven.

Really impressed with the graphics. Still need to hear about how 5v5 feels though.

So we have to play the streets to improve our player? This is an on-line thing? That sucks.

I just want to play a career without all that nonsense. I don't play on-line modes in any game.

No clue what you are reading into but it sounds like you can choose either or both in an offline mode. At least it's not like 2k where you grind in career to build your rating then have to grind in the park for other stuff

Yeah, from the sounds of it there's a connected online experience - as in NBA Live 16 - but it's not mandatory.

I actually like the idea of entering the drew league if it is in fact a league and not just a venue that is.

It's looking like The Streets portion of things is optional. You could probably spend all your time with The League if you wanted.

Looking at the breakdown of the Playstyles, it seems pretty good; less restrictive than the MyPLAYER Archetypes in NBA 2K17 turned out to be, and more in line with the types of players we see in the NBA. Right now, I'm wondering if those same styles will apply to real NBA players as well.

The upgrade system looks similar to NBA Live 16, which is good news. I thought it worked out pretty well, and the starting ratings were reasonably fair.
