Official NLSC Wishlist for NBA Live 18

Postby Andrew on Thu Feb 11, 2016 7:40 pm

Alright everyone, it's definitely time that we start compiling our Wishlist for NBA Live 17, so here is our official NBA Live 17 Wishlist thread. This is the place to post constructive feedback that will be submitted to the NBA Live Development Team; that means anything from bugs that need fixing, to features that you want to see added or improved upon, to anything else you feel would make the next iteration of NBA Live better.

A couple of notes and important suggestions on how to give the most comprehensive and useful feedback (based on previous conversations with developers):

Important Notes & Suggestions

Please keep this stuff in mind as you're posting your ideas!

  • One suggested format is to post your top 15-20 wishes/suggestions for the game, ie. the 15-20 most important things that NBA Live 17 needs to do/add/improve upon. If you have a couple of extra points, that's fine, but try to prioritise. If you don't have that many suggestions, that's fine too; just post the feedback you have and want to share with the developers.

  • Alternatively, post your top ten or so suggestions you have for different aspects of the game, such as gameplay, game modes, presentation, features, and so on. Again, if you have less than ten, no problem. That's a strongly suggested maximum for the lists, not a minimum.

  • Make sure that you elaborate and post further details where necessary. There's no need to write an essay - there's nothing wrong with being brief, direct, and to the point - but saying things like "better gameplay" doesn't give enough feedback. Explain how you want gameplay to get better, what changes are required to see an improvement. Mention specific issues, along with relevant improvements and fixes you want to see. A few sentences or subpoints are fine, and will add clarification.

  • Be constructive! No insults, flaming or bashing in this thread. If you're not interested in providing actual feedback and discussing ways to improve the game, please move along. If you want to vent about NBA Live 16, please feel free to make use of other threads in the Forum, but this is a thread for constructive feedback only. You don't need to sugarcoat things, or hold back on talking about stuff that needs to be fixed, just don't be abusive or needlessly snarky. Explaining what you think is broken or unsatisfactory, and what you want to see changed, is useful feedback. Telling the developers they're stupid, suck, and you hate them, on the other hand, is not.

  • Lists of bugs that haven't been resolved in the NBA Live 16 title updates are also most welcome.

That's about it. Feel free to start posting your ideas and if you have any further questions, just ask. We'll be passing along all feedback, and will likely look at compiling a "Top Wishes" section as the Wishlist takes shape.

I'll be posting my list within the next couple of days - I'm still organising a few things - but in the meantime, I'd highly recommend checking out this article on The Gaming Tailgate. Definitely spot on with those ideas, and a great example of how to set out feedback for the development team.

I play only Rising Star so these changes apply to that. I don't know if any of these need to be included for other modes.

1: Injuries in games that are not simmed. Also a list of injured players for each team. This is definitely #1.

2: Better timeout management by coaches. Time outs don't get used during runs, or if they do it's rare. I can't call timeouts when I'm not on the floor.

3: More fouls. In real life teams average 20 or more fouls a game but I rarely see any team with more than 10-15.

4: Goal tending calls. I've had a number of shots called "rejected" even though it had been out of my hand for about a second and was headed downward to and just above the basket when it was "blocked'. That is actually goal tending.

5: When offered a trade during the off season it would be nice if we could see the rosters of the teams offering.

6: How about a camera view from the bench when we're on the bench with a way to pan the camera around the arena, like 2k.

Here are some great things I would like to see in NBA Live 17 via The Gaming Tailgate

NBA LIVE 17 needs a big year to help pacify and meet the lofty expectations and demands of the basketball community.

Community Involvement & Interaction; Marketing: There is a passionate group of NBA LIVE fans who tweet, livestream, post videos featuring game ideas and feedback, and genuinely desire to see the franchise succeed. Some of these same fans have felt their feedback and ideas are not being heard as there is an understandable lack of response - it would be impossible for all videos and comments to be noticed and/or receive a reply. While the idea behind their public game feedback and ideas are genuine and well-intentioned, the franchise needs more public videos of bugs and issues like the proverbial hole in the head. After all, isn't that part of the reason the franchise is in the position it finds itself in?

There are ways to channel this feedback into a productive manner, such as establishing a public e-mail account for feedback to be sent to or perhaps copy what NCAA Football and Madden NFL have done in the past with crowd-sourcing information. If the feedback is truly welcome, this could help ensure as many details as possible are included and properly represented in the game as well as fostering and growing the community.

Community members who share feedback want to know they are being heard or feel that they are helping in some small way with the title. As the franchise keeps improving, the community payoff in waiting to see if feedback has been heard or utilized cannot come only once a year - it needs to be an on-going practice. Currently, the inability to develop consistent feedback and interaction with the community is only alienating fans and perpetuating doubts that the franchise is not long for this world.

Perhaps most importantly, the company needs to market the game. With the lack of mainstream marketing efforts for the title at launch, some fans take it as a vote of 'no confidence' by the studio while leaving casual fans in the dark about the mere existence of the title.

The Fundamentals

- More Accurate Rosters, Editing & Sharing: Perhaps the most basic starting point for any sports game, rosters have been a sore point for the franchise since its return with NBA LIVE 14. While the goal seemingly began to utilize Synergy for updated daily rosters, it currently takes weekly updates for roster changes to be implemented and reflected in-game. d Each year it has taken weeks for rookies and new players (acquired or traded) mid-season to finally be reflected in-game. Players/rookies who have yet to play are bad enough, but when key contributors are missing, one of the lowest base expectations of the game (correct rosters) has not been met. In addition, there have been weeks in which no roster update was issued - with no communication from the studio/dev team. These issues have existed for three years under three different designers in charge of rosters which indicates a larger issue with the roster technology and methodology, especially when the competing basketball title can push out daily roster updates.

This issue could have been somewhat alleviated if the game included roster editing, player creation, and roster sharing similar to that found in the Madden NFL franchise

Gameplay

- Improved/Revamped Post Game: For as much as the perimeter game in NBA LIVE has improved in the last three years, the post game has received little to no help or focus. Signature moves, more variation of moves and outcomes, and more animations would go a long ways here. Worth noting is that the franchise has been solid in terms of making top shot blockers and rebounders stand out. Rebounding animations and logic have been cleaned up in 16, but there's still work to be done.

- Improved Defense (Help Defense, Lane Denial, etc.): Perhaps the biggest complaint regarding NBA LIVE's gameplay is that it's just too easy to get to the basket. Players under the basket are slow to come over and contest drives in their role as the last line of defense and are just not effective enough when they do.

- In-Game Injuries: Perhaps the one gameplay feature that has the biggest ripple effect. Aside from the obvious realism, in-game injuries would help (force?) users to manage a roster in Dynasty Mode, think twice about always driving the lane during gameplay, and utilize a range of players in Ultimate Team.

- Increased User Control & Strategy Controls/Elements: One of the most-repeated lines regarding the direction and goal of gameplay within franchise the last three years has been in providing the utmost control to the user, typically in the form of quick responsiveness. However, that same amount of control does not exist or has been removed in other game areas, such as the ability to select the screener on pick & roll and a manual control options for bounce passes and floaters.

Furthermore and more importantly, some strategy settings do not appear to work or are bugged (legacy issues, at that) - making both the interface and implementation so discouraging that the game is virtually forcing users away from using strategy elements. These non-working or bugged strategy options may be one of the reasons team play styles do not match their real-life counterparts, another big ticket gameplay item that needs addressed.

- Authentic Team Styles, CPU/Player AI, etc.: While NBA LIVE 16 helped make top players stand out and become offensive threats (as compared to being excessively PG-centric in the past), there is little to no differentiation in team playing styles. As mentioned above, this issue may be due in part to some strategy settings/options not working, such as Tempo & Crash Boards. Working plus additional settings, options, and plays (team-specific, offensive, and defensive) may help address this issue.

AI has been an issue for the franchise, namely as it relates to situational and late-game moments. Making the CPU appear more realistic, engaged, and intelligent throughout the course of the game would help each team and game feel unique, as well.

- Improved Animations, Player Movement & Transitions, etc.: A given in terms of natural progression and development for the game, but still worth mentioning. Improved animations have greatly aided the game both visually and in terms of gameplay the last few years. However, there are still plenty of old or disjointed animations that stand out, almost jarring the user's ability to be immersed in a game that is very sharp visually in many areas.

Features

- All-Star Weekend: One of the most-requested features, NBA LIVE fans have been asking for All-Star Weekend (ASW) to return for years. Currently, the game only has the All-Star Game. Fans have been hoping for other festivities to be included which could include the Rising Stars Challenge, All-Star Celebrity Game, Shooting Stars, Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, and Slam Dunk competition. The Slam Dunk competition would be the most difficult considering it would require its own set of mechanics.

All-Star Weekend has its own feel and is when many casual sports fans begin to pay close attention to the NBA. Incorporating ASW would add a mid-season break (and fun) to Dynasty and Rising Star modes. Including an online element to the festivities would add depth to this inclusion, while using licensed legends as part of the Shooting Stars event would ring nostalgic for many. As you can tell, there are many opportunities and possibilities for how All-Star Weekend could be incorporated into multiple facets of the game. Bringing NBA All Star Weekend back would give the game a tremendous hook moving forward.

I think they should have a more story like feel to the Rising Star mode, Roster editing, and mainly a PC port. They may not want to do PC since 2K is kind of successful on the pc

Improvements that I'd like to see:
- Stealing (without using L1) is virtually impossible without adjusting the sliders
- The free throw percentage is way too low without adjusting the sliders
- Camera relative controls for the right stick
- Obviously the faces of certain players need some work

Good things 2K doesn't have that shouldn't be removed
- Players don't walk super slowly to the ball when it's time for an inbound pass
- No halftime delay
- A button for hopstep/eurostep. It's nice to not have to do everything with the right stick!

Things NBA Live 17 Absolutely Has To Do via Andrew @AndrewNLSC

Find a hook
Bottom line, NBA Live 17 needs to be a deep, fully featured, and customizable game. It needs to have substance, not gimmicks. At the same time, it also needs to offer something unique, something beyond the standard franchise mode, career mode, and other features that we expect of a basketball game. LIVE Pro-Am was obviously intended to be that hook in NBA Live 16, and honestly, it wasn’t a bad idea. It’s a good concept, it’s a fun mode to play, and it even appeals to someone like me, who traditionally isn’t an online gamer. I also think it’s something to be retained and expanded upon, but NBA Live 17 needs something else, preferably NBA oriented.

Implement Roster Editing
It’s nice to get the official roster updates every week, but if there’s a wrong jersey number, or a player gets traded or cut in the meantime, we need the ability to make those changes ourselves. Historically, a lot of basketball gamers have had fun creating likenesses of themselves and their friends, and playing with fantasy rosters. A lot of detail went into being able to customize a single player for Rising Star and LIVE Pro-Am in NBA Live 16, which is nice, and we did get gameplay sliders, which also must remain. However, that’s only part of what we need as far as customization tools are concerned.

While I’d like to see a full compliment of team and player editing tools in NBA Live 17, I have a feeling we’ll have to wait on a couple of features. Custom teams are something we’ve wanted to see back in the game since NBA Live 2001, so to say that their return is overdue is a massive understatement. However, creating and editing players should be the higher priority, so custom teams can wait, if need be. It’s more important that we can create a bunch of custom players, and edit the existing ones. That means changing jersey numbers, editing ratings and tendencies, and making transactions. Ideally, we should also be able to save those rosters locally, and then share them with other users.

Deeper Dynasty Mode via Andrew and The Gaming Tailgate
Dynasty mode desperately needs some attention In addition to retaining the current rotation menu and sim intervention, Dynasty Mode needs to bring back basic functionality from years ago . That includes transaction listings, the ability to edit players (specifically their positions and jersey numbers, since adjusting ratings would be cheating), training drills, and scouting throughout the season. I’d like to be able to scrimmage with my team at any time, not just once a month (as in NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10). Dynasty cut scenes would only add to the presentation value. Adjusted stats for shorter quarter lengths, sliders and settings to customize the experience one step at a time, but a few of those steps definitely need to be taken in NBA Live 17. Dynasty needs to be a lot deeper, a lot more immersive. NBA Live 17 needs to bring back some of the missing features, and start adding new and exciting stuff – as NBA 2K has done with My LEAGUE and MyGM – to make Dynasty engaging and addicting again. The ability to control multiple teams in Dynasty Mode, and play a standalone Playoffs, are also important options. I’ll also make mention of the ability to make substitutions and adjust strategy between quarters (I miss being able to go to the pause/team management screen at quarter time and halftime), bring up the Player of the Game at the post-game screen, and view quarter-by-quarter stats. These may sound like small details, but they’re useful staples that have somehow missed the cut in recent years. If they’re brought back, they’ll do their part in enhancing usability, and the overall experience.Capturing the feel of each part of the season would give the perception of being 'dynamic' and help keep users immersed. This could be reflected in in-game presentation, commentary, even menu interface & design.

Perhaps the inclusion of team and individual game/season records as well as player historical stats would help users feel that they are part of this larger world. Imagine presentation elements for setting a new game or season scoring record; or perhaps playing as a great such as Kobe Bryant and trying to chase down the all-time scoring leaders as your career winds down.

To make some of these possibilities happen, each mode will need more options: Perhaps users can play as existing player in Rising Star, the option to join existing roster or alter draft (current methodology), option to play as team instead of Player Lock, etc. Dynasty Mode needs to look no further than NBA 2K for the multitude of options that users expect in Dynasty/Franchise.

A popular feature from NCAA Football that shockingly has not permeated all EA SPORTS titles is an in-game score, stat, and news ticker. Such a feature would reap benefits and increase immersion for both Dynasty and Rising Star modes. Seeing scores and match-ups from around the league, as well as stats, stat leaders, and league news would help users feel part of a larger world in these modes instead of the repeated 'one-off' experience that exists now.

Already mentioned above, All-Star Weekend would be a major addition to help more these modes more immersive and enjoyable.

How to accomplish the goal of improving this mode is the biggest point of contention. Should NBA LIVE feature storylines ala NBA 2K? Similarly to Madden NFL, should it rely on an XP system? Should NBA LIVE attempt to incorporate LIVE Pro-Am into the mode? Or perhaps more off-court elements (endorsements, player interactions, etc.) to make players reflect real-life personality traits?

Given how many elements Dynasty & Rising Star currently and could possibly share, should NBA LIVE merge these modes into one, ala Madden NFL's Connected Franchise?

Improve Gameplay Mechanics and Animations
The old and outdated animations must be phased out. This is especially apparent in the paint game, which needs to be deeper on both sides of the ball, and look a lot better. We also need to see more collisions, and with them, the chance of injuries.

Presentation via The Gaming Tailgate

- More Details: Signature Moves, Celebrations; Accurate Arena Details, Jerseys, Accessories, etc.: Historically, NBA LIVE has prided itself on getting the details right: uniforms, shoes, crowd chants ('MVP', booing certain players), etc. While still very good overall, the franchise appears to pick its spots on where it wants to be incredibly accurate. Missing/incorrect uniforms, inaccurate courts & arenas, additional sig moves and celebrations are some of the areas where LIVE could stand to reassess its accuracy and how it can improve.

To be fair, many of the assets in-game are based off designs the NBA and/or teams submitted during game development. However, fans of a team will not care why something is inaccurate, they only care that it will be fixed.

- Improved In-Game & Post-Game Atmosphere, Team Celebrations, etc.: Perhaps the most unspoken area of improvement for the franchise is in-game and post-game atmosphere. As is, the game atmosphere only exists from dead ball to dead ball. The crowd may get into the moment, but all crowd momentum is wiped out during a timeout. Should the game be won on a buzzer-beater, the user may be jumping off their couch celebrating as the game seemingly moves at breakneck speed to the end-game presentation and menu screens. Improved in-game atmosphere may include teammates celebrating heading into an opponent's timeout as the crowd roars or walking dejectedly if a big lead has been lost, for example. Post-game team celebrations - particularly if the moment warrants it - would put the proverbial icing on the cake for a great game.

- Surfaced Strategy Controls; Refreshed/Revamped Menus & Screens: Unlike in football titles where users get to pick a play before each snap, basketball gamers must call the majority of their plays and strategy on the fly. NBA LIVE 16's offensive play wheel helped to make it relatively easy to call offensive plays, however it is still very cumbersome to call defensive plays and select strategies during the action.

With the game utilizing ESPN broadcast elements, many parts of NBA LIVE will appear the same each year as ESPN rarely makes sweeping changes on a year to year basis. This can give users who do not or have not played much of the franchise a feeling of déjà vu - those who watched game clips or played demos of previous versions of NBA LIVE will think not much has changed. The menu layout, font, and interface - in-game and menus - needs an overhaul to make them appear fresh as well as making them more user-friendly and intuitive.

Missing and other inaccurate elements include: quarter-by-quarter box score, presenting players by 1-5 in lineups & menus, surfacing pertinent info in menus, et al.

LIVE Pro-Am 2.0 via The Gaming Tailgate
NBA LIVE 16 featured the most popular community request, online team play. While a fun, popular mode there is still more that the community wants from it in the future.

1) Squads & Customization: The mode is currently very single-player oriented. Adding in the option for squads or communities with some methods of customization (courts, team name, uniforms, stat-tracking, etc.) would continue to build the LIVE Pro-Am community and attachment to the game.

2) Tournament Events: Aside from any new venues added throughout the year, there is very little difference in playing the mode between day one and day 300. Adding in special events, such as tournaments, would encourage the building of communities to work together as squads for these unique competitions. Adding in rewards for participating and/or winning (IE: RP, SP, LUT coins/cards, gear) would make each event meaningful.

3) Easily Viewable/Comparable Stats: While they exist, it is cumbersome to view and compare player stats. Should teams, leagues, tournaments, etc. be added, a way to view stats would be almost necessary to help scout opponents and also for friendly bragging rights among teammates.

4) An instant replay or highlights mode would allow content creators to show off their player in a more unique, personalized way.

5) Additional Modes: A popular request among the Pro-Am community are for more game modes. They include options for: Playing to 21, standard NBA game/rules (or custom quarter length), 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, NBA LIVE 10 LIVE Run format (pro players), etc. While obvious and logical additions, would adding numerous modes dilute the community too much?

6) More Gear & Apparel Options: The lack of options in apparel became apparent as the year went on. The competitor's product went so far as to add Marvel superhero apparel, where as NBA LIVE's lone mid-year apparel update (to date) included very generic clothing options.

Since most of my wishlist has been covered already, Ill post some Pro Am wishes

-Mode exclusive moves (Dribbles, dunks, celebrations ect)
Would like some more energetic and fun moves. 360 contact dunk animations would be fun very fun to see, as long as its not once every game.

-Ball hog consequences
I don't see many ball hogs anymore but when they come on the team with them always loses. Need some sort of punishment besides player grade.

-Reach in fouls
All you have to do when guarding someone who isnt 99 ovr is just spam steal. Might be realistic for street basketball but doesn't translate great for a video game.

NBA Live 17 Feedback
I'm trying not to rehash any. If you're going for simulation.

1. In the paint you should have more contact body-body based animations and shots than not. Severely reduce dunks. And over-flooding with in-paint reasonable contact would cover up the fact that blocking shots in Live is a miss more than hit.
2. Lessen freebies. If someone's got a open lane, have players hack them intentionally.
3. More offensive fouls. To create more presence of the bodies, and also to add more reason to stop-n-pops. Why stop n pop if I know I can dunk on you, slide you out the way, knock you over and never get called for it.
4. Euro charges/hop charges. Baiting and then hopping to the spot. Big men and all alike take more charges these days anyway.
5. More seal ups. Players waiting off ball for screens, plays and whatnot. More sealing pass catches. Overall just more Defender Offensive interaction all across the board.
6. Don't foul a jump shooter. Bring back the bait for those jumping too soon/players who's momentum over carries. Make some offensive fouls in those situations: fading leg kick outs, over-leaning in.
7. If you're not causing the offensive player to take off-balanced shots, to stumble, then it's more often-than-not bad defense. Like a story, they say "show don't tell". Show us the shots being affected. Is he double clutching? leaning? Did he slip? put more arc on the shot? throw a line drive? waved the ball around his head first, switched hands, fall backward and is slow to get up?
8. Smoother(not longer. least not too much longer) transitions of animations.
9. Does it kill Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen to yell ? To put some emphasis in their voices ? They sound so monotone, phony .
10. As always, the crowd. If Jeff Van/Mike Breen can't yell, let the crowd yell, let the PA yell. You got regular season atmosphere, playoffs. But add in some clutch atmosphere, some 4th quarter atmosphere, some rivalry atmosphere. Nothing kills the mood more than a big bucket going unnoticed and being under appreciated by the game presentation.
11. small stuff. Rim sound. Get rid of the crunch dunks. Give us those lingering bang, ding sounds. Give us those soccer kick sounds on some jump shots that back-rim down in.
12. Net sounds. Give us some hard ripping shots.
13. The camera zoom-out. On big shots. Aka 4th quarter. When the camera zooms in when the shot's taken, then when it goes in it pans out wide to show the crowd.
14. POP plays. Crowd popping plays that goes from them sitting down to both hands up standing. Just watch a Kobe Bryant clutch shot mix. Big time blocks. Big time steals. Them plays and crowd reactions that make you think Stone Cold just came in the building.

Allow us to save a game during the game in the event we need to come back to it later, especially in Rising Star.

Please fix how charging is called. I have not seen one charging call where the defender wasn't moving. They have to be stopped and planted.

Also, in Rising Star, when our team is blowing out an opponent it isn't necessary to have the starters playing in the last 5 minutes of the game. It's an ideal time to get the backup players some playing time.

(EP.2) The State of NBA LIVE 17 - We Need Change via @MindFrameGaming

This is episode 2 of The State of NBA LIVE 17. In this episode we talk about positive change in regards to EA Sports and NBA LIVE as a franchise.

NBA Live 16 a lot could have been different in the way they launched it. They could've incorporated more community members into it. It might of been more of a success gameplay wise I see a lot that needs to change. NBA Live still has quite of a journey. Now there's still some herky jerky offensive animations that need to go those hook shots we need a post game, manual bounce passes, more control, we need defensive cut off animations, better steal animations the offense needs to be at fault once the steal happens in regards to their recovery. We need more player collision animations we don't have that in NBA Live currently when you bump into your teammate you kind of just freeze up and you pause you don't really do that swimming animation to try to get by your guy or even the defense. Same thing with NBA 2K though they don't have that animation either. NBA Live needs to capitalize on the little things. I want to see change it's something that we need in the community moving forward for NBA Live. You think EA Sports can pull it off ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyTLBl0b2hc

(EP.3) The State of NBA LIVE 17 - Improvements To Defensive Animations via @MindFrameGaming

In this episode of The State of NBA LIVE 17 defense is the topic in regards to movement, tangibility, foot planting and more

NBA Live 16 has its share of good defensive animations but it's time to build off of NBA Lives foundation and mesh together movement, speed, basketball tangibility, and player stats from the best outcome defensively so that on ball defenders such as Paul George can truly shine. In regards to animations that need to be fine tuned steals is one of them as the double steal animation tends to plague many defenders in NBA Live. Attempt to steal the ball once and you're in for a wild ride as a second steal would be initiated randomly. And as result your player would glide away talk about a bummer. In Regards to on ball defense and getting your hands up this feels very sluggish in regards to reaction times and currently this animation can only be triggered while your player is not moving. This animation needs to be accessible by the defender at all times inside and out of the paint. Now foot planting also needs to be addressed as there are times in which the defense is bailed out via animations that pull players together and this needs to change. All and all the development of NBA Live 17 is underway what changes defensively do you want to see ?

Whatever is being presented to the community in NBA Live 17 needs to represent true authentic human basketball movement this is the first and foremost top priority. Player likeness, signature animations, improved core gameplay, improved post game animations, more physical animations so you can bring back the rules over the back, illegal screens, injuries, and fatigue have to be implemented. Capture the Pro Am environment what makes the Pro Am tournaments exciting it's the audience. When you see an epic crossover move the dude ankle is broken down what does the audience do you get that oh effect that amplifies the situation those are the kind of things we need to see in Pro Am as well as in the game where you have better reactivity and reactions from the audience to certain big moments that occur in the game. Will NBA Live 17 finally show up and look and feel like a next generation basketball videogame ? Can NBA Live make a game that's so unique on its own table and shows us EA Sports can have its own identity when it comes to basketball. EA Sports should capture the enthusiasm of the crowd since they're a big part of the NBA. The ESPN Presentation should be used to it's full extent for ex. Have Sage Steele, Doug Collins, and Jalen Rose talking at their desk.

NBA Live 17 Wish List:

PRESENTATION:
Add commentary fillers (I like why X is doing this based off mismatch) eg.
More Jeff Van Gundy coaching strategies. Discuss what type of plays he would run
Go through some actual ESPN "organic" commentary, especially duing big plays, and add them to the current structure.
Crowd really needs fine tuned. We always talk about NBA Live 10's crowd. Perfect crowd from any video games to date.
Promote +/- stats in game, they're really an under rated stat in the game. Sometimes you need to know who's impacting the game vs who's not
Sometimes fouls don't show on the screen, and commentators don't know what a player might have 3 fouls. Important stats in the game shouldn't go unnoticed
Ability to change your line up between quarters. If there's no way of implementing is, just do what NHL does and include the pause screen, to allow us to change line ups. It's frustrating because the CPU can do it, but the user can.
Add more personality to the game. 2-5 player celebration animation.
Slow motion replays between quarters are horrible. Rather see the plays in full motion, with a better camera angles
More cameras in general *Have the cameras follow the play rather than the ball eg. ESPN camera. It causes a lot of hiccups. Pan and zoom should be the standard for ALL cameras in the game, with the ability to edit zoom and height.
Bring back wired, although not necessary
REAL TIME substitutions, post whistle engagements. Talk to coaches, refs etc. Similar to what they have in FIFA, when inbounding the ball

GENERAL & GAME PLAY:
Allow custom rosters, player & ratings editing. Weekly updated rosters should only be available for online mode
Keep adding more animations that make basketball sense, tripping animations eps.
Slow the regular game play down, and add more speed an acceleration to the game
Tired Players. Need tired players on the floor, very tired players should be more visible in the game. Have them walking back on defense to show the disparity. This would be ideal in Dynasty.
Better ways to dictate pace in the game. Foot planting should be felt, jumping and cuts should be organic. More collisions in the open court, loose balls, unpredictbale game play
Get rid of those sky high hook shot cheese
More in the paint animations, turnaround fade aways, post moves. More banging down low in the paint. Try not to have that 'slow down' effect in the paint. Plays should feel organic and fast. Show case the block in an "X-Mo" type camera to show physics and detailed graphics.
Players play like their real life counterparts. Different types of personalities. Kawhi behaves like Kawhi, DMC behaves like DMC etc.
Player in-game injuries for tip off, dynasty & Ultimate team. Have healing cards, similar to NHL.
Better Basketball AI. Chris Paul shouldn't be taking 25 shots a game at times. Better use of Synergy, and the ability to turn Synergy off for offline gaming.
More freedom in general for USERS.
The ability to create and draw up our own plays.

---------------------------------------------

The ability to set minutes and substitution pattern, the auto sub feature is so scripted sometimes it makes no sense
CPU needs to do a better job in calling time out when they need one, or when they want to make a substitution

1. Post game needs a complete reboot
2. The game lacks control, players don't have any feel at all.
3. Input lag needs to be eliminated especially in passing the ball.
4. If can, keep controls simple while adding animations and animation quality.
5. Establish balance in offense and defense.
6.Keep improving on physics off ball (was a nice touch in 16)

Settings:
*Better description of the sliders e.g. you need to decrease the slider to increase stealing, and shot contest greatly affects shot blocking

A lot more air balls on these half, 3/4 court or full court heaves at the end of qtrs. Most never touch the rim IRL. They all do in the game.

That's a good point. A few should come close, fewer still should have a chance of going in, but most of them should fall short or be wide. I'd like to see some one handed fling animations from beyond midcourt as well.

Comprehensive Wishlist, you say? Well, here's my shot at one. ;)

OVERVIEW: 20 KEY POINTS

A summary of the most important additions and improvements.

  • Improve animations, and add new ones that are more realistic, life-like, and fluid.
  • Improve the depth and fluidity of controls. Increase responsiveness (ideally without compromising animation quality), while adding manual control over a wider variety of moves.
  • Fine tune and balance the gameplay for fairness and realism; enhance opponent and teammate AI at both ends of the floor.
  • Better differentiation between players of different sizes and skills, especially when it comes to smart players, very athletic players, and big men handling the basketball.
  • Increase physicality/use of player physics in the paint and on the perimeter.
  • Replicate the finer details of basketball, including injuries, over the back fouls, jump balls, fouls away from the ball, and so on.
  • Add more sliders for gameplay tweaks. Allow users to save and share slider settings.
  • Bring back comprehensive roster editing, including transactions, player editing, and created players. Allow users to save and share rosters.
  • Add several missing functions to Dynasty Mode, including injury and transaction listings, end of season awards, advanced metrics stats screens etc, while retaining sim intervention, roster management, and other functionality.
  • Further expand Dynasty Mode with additional salary cap features, three team trades, player/team chemistry and fatigue, and sandbox/customisation options, including multiplayer, commissioner functions, etc, similar to NBA 2K's MyLEAGUE.
  • Deepen Rising Star with more bells and whistles, including fake social media, endorsements, off-court activities, and so on.
  • Add further settings and team management functionality to Ultimate Team, including rotations and pre-set lineups.
  • Tweak LUT rewards, pack prices, and pack odds so that it's a little fairer.
  • Enhance authenticity of presentation, including the use of the imperial system (feet, inches, pounds) in ALL versions of the game.
  • Adjust camera zoom/size of players relative to the court, to enhance player visuals and make them stand out in gameplay camera angles.
  • Bring back All-Star Weekend, as it was in NBA Live 2005 through NBA Live 09.
  • Allow users to make changes to lineups and strategy in between quarters.
  • Expand the active roster in all modes to 13 players, as it currently is in the NBA.
  • Expand online modes, with online league play, more LIVE Pro-Am challenges and content.
  • Release a PC version; ideally, also make it moddable! A digital release through Origin would be fine.
DETAILED WISHLIST

A detailed list of Wishes for various aspects of the game.

GAMEPLAY

  • Continue to improve animations, phasing out awkward and stiff animations for more fluid and life-like ones. In particular, add more dunks, post moves, and shots in the paint.
  • Along with animation improvement, continue to make the controls more fluid. In NBA Live 16, there are some delays on shot blocking and rebounding in particular, and sometimes it is possible to get stuck in dribbling animations. Spin moves are also a little awkward, both visually and in their feel on the sticks.
  • Expand the controls to give users manual control over bounce passes, floaters, fake passes, and bank shots, as well as greater control over tip-ins and put-backs. Also add a shortcut to call timeout without pausing, similar to the intentional foul option, and the ability to call either a full or 20 second timeout (as in NBA Live 10). There needs to be more moves when posting up, including manual up and under moves, fakes, hooks and half-hooks, etc.
  • Tweak the playcalling wheel so that users can select plays with a direction, rather than having to let go of the playcalling button while continuing to hold the stick in one direction (ie hold the playcalling button, move the stick towards the appropriate play to select it, let go of the stick and then the play button).
  • Remove the annoying contextual dribbling animations when bringing the ball up the court. It just makes bringing the ball up feel a bit clunky and canned. Allow the user to control the tempo with full/partial movement of the left stick, and sprint.
  • Improve defensive AI so that CPU-controlled teammates will rotate properly, losing their man less often and filling the paint when they need to. In NBA Live 16, it's too easy for the CPU to get to the hoop, because teammates will stand and watch them drive, or even step out of their way to let them score.
  • Have more physicality in the paint. Obviously the game has changed and it's not as physical as it once was, but it should still be tough to get into the lane and score for both the CPU and user, and there should be a lot more contact and fouls in the paint. On 12 minute quarters, teams should be shooting at least around 20 free throws on average; it's not uncommon for them to average less than ten in NBA Live 16.
  • Add in-game injuries. These are essential for adding a risk/reward factor to reckless play, not to mention changing things up in Dynasty Mode by having players get put out of action outside of simulation. Ideally, they shouldn't have to rely on a hard foul or a shooting foul to occur, but that would still be better than not having them at all.
  • The explosiveness of NBA players isn't always well-represented, with the way that some players are much faster than their opponents and can quickly get to the hoop. It shouldn't be too easy or arcade-like, and the CPU kind of needs to be toned down here, but at times it's tough to mimic explosive moves with players like Russell Westbrook.
  • Add more signature shooting styles for dribbling, jumpshots, and free throws. If possible, add some signature forms for Legends as well.
  • Cut down on/remove canned situations. This is particularly noticeable on steals, where CPU players will automatically perform an elusive dribble to avoid having the ball poked loose, in a way that makes it obvious that you weren't meant to get the steal there.
  • At times, the game feels unbalanced. The CPU has a tendency to hit too many open shots, as well as tough contested ones, and make improbable runs and comebacks a bit too easily. It also feels a few steps quicker than the user, meaning it can blow past defenders too easily despite good footwork by the user. The CPU is also adept at brushing off contact and pretty much getting into the lane whenever they want, partly because of the extra speed and spryness, but also because they can seemingly ignore contact altogether.
  • There are still some weird AI moments where the CPU will just dribble out the shot clock or get a five second back to the basket violation, as if it's set down the controller and stopped playing. Intentional fouls also start occurring too early, and in situations where going for the steal or playing tight defense would be more advisable.
  • Eliminate some of the zooming/rocket moves that the CPU especially can perform to get to the hoop too easily. The CPU is also too adept at catching up to players who are trying to outrun defenders who are trying to intentionally foul them, sometimes warping several steps forward to get into the fouling animation.
  • Add more gameplay sliders, including game speed, comeback logic/likelihood, clutch ability, physicality...basically, any aspect of the gameplay that can feasibly be tweaked, we want to have access to, so that we can customise the gameplay experience to our liking.
  • Go to a pause menu in between quarters, so that you can make lineup and strategy adjustments before beginning the next quarter.
  • Allow the user to select the inbounder. This is crucial for last second plays, when you want certain players to be on the floor to get the inbounds pass and attempt the shot.
  • Add some quick shot options for last second shots, when there's hardly any time left on the clock. Few things are as frustrating as not being able to get off that lost shot, because you're stuck in a catching animation, or the quick release option still isn't quick enough. Obviously, difficult shots should still be low percentage. Inbounds alley-oop and tip plays would also be handy here.
  • Add tie-ups for jumpballs, more fouls away from the ball, over the back fouls, and so forth. A majority of fouls should still come in the paint though, with bigs tending to pick up most of them, as in real life.
  • Fix the arc on alley-oops, which at times is still too high. Alley-oops from further back should also be a little more successful; see Pau Gasol and Jimmy Butler for lobs out of the high post. Great passers and dunkers should be able to connect from even further back if well-timed and open, and players like DeAndre Jordan should position themselves better to receive and finish on lobs.
  • Cut down on offensive rebounding cheese. The CPU has a tendency to clip through defenders to grab boards, giving itself extra chances it shouldn't have. It's also a little too easy to score after crashing the offensive boards.
  • Ensure that players who can complete standing dunks do in fact perform them. A separate dunk button or "force dunk" button might not be a bad idea here, as there are times when they should go straight up for a simple dunk, but instead try an awkward layup that gets blocked.
  • Allow users to switch control to a player away from the ball, as in older games.
  • Differentiation between ballhandlers. In NBA Live 16, bigs can handle the ball as well as guards. While there are more bigs who can do that these days, they're still not in the majority.
DYNASTY

  • Bring back some basic functionality and features, such as the transactions listing, injury listing, end of season awards, and the ability to edit player jersey numbers, accessories, and positions.
  • Rumours, player/team chemistry and satisfaction, and scouting during the season (not just leading up to the Draft) are some other features from past games that would be great to have back. In-depth scouting of upcoming rookies would be fantastic.
  • Add the ability to practice with your team at any time, so that you can get a feel for your players, especially any new ones that you acquire during the course of a season. Also bring back player drills to train your team each week throughout the season. Scrimmages should be available at any time, but shouldn't affect player development (otherwise that's too much of a cheat).
  • Add more statistics screens, including advanced metrics, to the season leaders menu. Ensure that all qualifying conditions are accounted for, eg. players who are 5/5 from the free throw line shouldn't be listed as the leader in free throw percentage sixty games into the season.
  • Allow us to hire and fire head coaches. This is one is definitely overdue! If need be, have a pool of generic coaches (perhaps we could rename them?) that will also contain real coaches once they get fired. Basically, it shouldn't just be the assistants and other staff who get hired and fired.
  • Add ten day contracts, and contract extensions.
  • Add three-team trades. The way it worked in NBA Live 2001 was pretty effective, but ideally it should be possible to suggest movement between two CPU-controlled teams as well. Every team would still have to agree to the deal, of course.
  • Add the ability to control more than one team, as well as offers (or simply the option) to switch teams between seasons.
  • Add customisation/"sandbox" features, similar to MyLEAGUE in NBA 2K. This includes sliders that affect tendencies and frequencies, and the ability to control the league (ie make trades for CPU-controlled teams, undo trades, "commissioner options", and so on). There's a lot of stuff from MyLEAGUE that I'd like to see in Dynasty Mode, but some of it can wait. Those are some of the big ones though, and one step at a time.
  • Add the ability to have teams agree to a trade in principle, which you can then confirm or back out of, similar to the option that was available in NBA Live 2000.
  • Recognise retired numbers, and disallow active players from wearing them (unless overridden by the user).
  • Add All-Star voting, according to the current backcourt/frontcourt format.
  • Keep some of the really nice features the mode already has, such as simulation intervention, the rotation menu, free agency negotiations, the trade interface, trading of draft picks, and so on.
  • Continue polishing the simulated stats and results, though these tend to be pretty good already, compared to the last few games leading up to NBA Live 10.
  • Allow stats to be adjusted/normalised for shorter quarter lengths, so that the user can play shorter quarters, but still have stats that reflect a full length game.
  • Bring back Dynasty cutscenes for award presentations, trades, the Draft, and so forth.
  • Implement fatigue that carries over from game to game over the course of the season, hot and cold streaks, etc.
ROSTER EDITING & CUSTOMISATION

  • Add the ability to customise rosters by making trades, releasing and signing players, and changing lineups/rotations. Basically, the roster management features that are in Dynasty, plus player editing and creation (see below). Allow users to save custom rosters, and then share them with other users.
  • Add the ability to create players. Include the ability to set tendencies, dunk packages and other animations, and full bio data. Ideally, also allow the use of the GameFace HD app, in case you want to create a second copy of your player to play with in modes other than Rising Star.
  • Add the ability to edit existing players, including ratings, tendencies, positions, dunk packages and other animations, bio data, jersey numbers, and so on.
  • Add the ability to save and share custom slider settings with other users, so that they can easily be loaded instead of manually adjusted every time.
  • Expand the active roster to 13 players, as the league made that change a few years ago.
  • A lot of us would like to see custom teams back in the game, as that's been missing since NBA Live 2000. However, being able to customise the existing teams, create players and so forth is more important, so they should be a priority above custom teams. Still something for NBA Live 18 and beyond, though!
  • Include a couple of different speed settings for the accelerated clock.
  • Add the ability to create custom Draft Classes for Dynasty Mode and Rising Star.
ULTIMATE TEAM

  • Add the ability to set rotations, using the same rotation screen from Dynasty Mode. With the possibility of getting a stacked team, it's essential that we can set our own substitution patterns, otherwise the deep bench goes to waste.
  • Allow users to trade cards with people on their friends list, just like collecting real basketball cards. Both users must agree to the swap, and no "take backsies"!
  • Pack value is kind of all over the place. There should be a mix of improving pack odds, lowering the prices slightly, and raising the rewards that you can earn in LUT games, to make things fairer in NBA Live 17.
  • While it may be controversial, some regulation on Auction prices might be in order, with some upper limits for cards. The current system promotes outrageous prices, and facilitates gambling on cards.
  • Give users one high rated gold player (and not a short term player card!) from their favourite team in their first pack, to help jump start things with their team. Without it, those first five games or so can be pretty brutal.
  • Allow users to change gameplay settings, such as the camera angle, rather than locking it to a default setting.
  • Implement player chemistry as a factor, so that you can't just throw together a bunch of 90+ overall players and dominate.
  • Ability to save a few different lineups, to easily swap players in and out without manually doing so one by one.
RISING STAR

  • Allow the use of gameplay sliders, so that users can customise the gameplay experience if it isn't to their liking.
  • Add content that brings depth to the mode, such as fake social media for fan/media interaction, endorsements, team meetings, off-day activities, and so forth.
  • Avoid the linear story-driven approach that NBA 2K has taken, as it usually results in an unlikeable character for your player, a contrived and cliche storyline with no branching or variation between users, and more time spent in cutscenes than in gameplay.
  • Retain the ability to get traded to the team of your choice following the Draft.
  • Allow the user the ability to have the number of their choice even if it's retired by a team, if they so choose. By default however, recognise the retired numbers; make it an override option.
  • Ability to play as someone else when your player is on the bench, or all players if you don't want to go the traditional player locked route in the mode.
PRESENTATION & VISUALS

  • Make sure that pounds, feet and inches is the default system of measurement in all versions. At the very least, ensure there's a toggle option, as it's distracting to see NBA presentation with players listed in centimetres and kilograms in the PAL version. The imperial system is what the NBA uses, so that's what NBA Live should use in all versions. Otherwise, it just looks off in the TV-style presentation.
  • Add more statistics screens in the pause menu. Currently, we aren't able to view quarter-by-quarter stats for teams and players, or any advanced metrics. At the very least, we should be able to see quarter-by-quarter stats (in addition to the Shot Chart and totals for the game).
  • Have at least one assistant coach appear on the sidelines along with the head coach.
  • When you zoom in on the players in NBA Live 16, they look great. During gameplay however, the quality and detail isn't always apparent. There seems to be issues with the zoom on the gameplay camera, or the size of the players relative to the court, that doesn't look quite right. Improving on this would definitely go a long way in helping NBA Live 17 make a good first impression.
  • Cut down on dead air in commentary, add some more anecdotes and reactions.
  • Fix some of the commentary logic, where dunks are treated as layups or midrange jumpshots in Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy's reactions, as well as the chosen lines not lining up with the flow of the game in general (references to things happening all night in the first quarter, comments that don't marry up with what's actually been happening, etc).
  • Allow users to view player cards with complete career statistics, set out in table format (as on Basketball Reference, the backs of trading cards, NBA.com, etc).
  • Order teams alphabetically by city name, rather than team name.
LIVE PRO-AM & ONLINE

  • Add more options for rules and game settings, such as a "win by two" condition, to LIVE Run and the Summer Circuit.
  • Make it a little easier to jump into a solo game in Summer Circuit. Having to create a private lobby can be a bit cumbersome.
  • Add a traditional Online Team Play or LIVE Run mode, using NBA players rather than Rising Star players.
  • Add a simplified online Dynasty/online League mode, with basic transactions and season play.
  • Different challenges based on whether you're playing Summer Circuit solo, or with other players.
  • Options to create squads with your friends for easier matchmaking. It would also be nice to be able to name squads, and perhaps even customise the branding.

LIVE SEASON & BIG MOMENTS

  • Allow the users to enable or disable the accelerated clock option in BIG Moments challenges.
OTHER MODES & FEATURES

  • Bring back the standalone Playoffs mode, so that users can play through their own custom postseason whenever they'd like.
  • Bring back All-Star Weekend as it was in NBA Live 2005 through NBA Live 09. While the animations might need to be updated and polished, simply getting the dunk contest back into the game would be huge. If it's back, make sure that it's included as part of Dynasty Mode, Rising Star, and exhibition play.
  • Utilise historical players outside of Ultimate Team, by making them available in a Legends Pool to place on current teams, and featuring Decade All-Star teams. Also allow the creation of Legends players.
  • Implement a proper one-on-one halfcourt mode with scoring, and the ability to select any two players.
  • Add the ability to save games in progress, for when you need to step away.
KEY BUGS

  • On some BIG Moments challenges, the player that is meant to take the inbound for a game-winning shot is set as the inbounder. This often happens when re-trying a challenge after a failed first attempt, requiring the user to restart the challenge over and over until a different inbounder is selected.
  • As mentioned in the gameplay section, standing dunks need a little work. However, they don't seem to work at all in Ultimate Team for some reason. They are working in other modes in NBA Live 16, but just don't seem to be performed on cue in LUT.
  • Random disconnections and crashes to the dashboard in connected modes, such as LIVE Pro-Am and Ultimate Team. Have submitted reports through PSN whenever it happens.
PC VERSION & MODDING

  • Port the game to the PC platform! Please. :) If it has to be distributed digitally through Origin, that's fine. A lot of people want to see a PC version again, and it'd show a lot of good faith to loyal NBA Live players.
  • Allow modding with rosters that can be opened with database programs, and textures that can be easily exported, manipulated, and re-imported. Ideally, include a "custom art" folder as in previous games, so that loose files are loaded instead of the ones in containers, allowing for easy installation and removal of mods.
  • Official tools for editing the PC version. For that matter, official tools for the console versions, too!

Um, how about one that doesn't take a week to read. :-D

Definitely add game in process saving. Quite a few times something has come up during a game which required me to be elsewhere and I had to shut the game off.

Not sure about the non basketball related stuff in Rising Star. That was a request 2k went with and the game has gotten pretty much away from playing basketball. They are so focused on non basketball stuff that they are not really improving game play anymore. Wouldn't want Live to go that route.

That's what the 20 key points are for, a concise summary.

I think there needs to be something immersive in Rising Star between games, though I'd prefer it to be basketball related: training, GM/coach meetings, that sort of thing. At the moment though, it's just a bit bare bones.

Also, in Rising Star, when our team is blowing out an opponent it isn't necessary to have the starters playing in the last 5 minutes of the game. It's an ideal time to get the backup players some playing time.

they're in the game, but there's times where the defender jumps and you'll still get called for a charge. I got two of those called on me in the 4th quarter yesterday lol

Ok but so far every replay I've looked at the defender's feet were definitely moving. That's a blocking foul, not charging.
