Looks like we have human Sub-Zero (thankfully) and Scorpion returning; no surprises there, given their popularity. X-Ray moves appear to be back, and it also looks like there might be the ability to interact with the environment and pick up weapons.

Not happy to hear about the return of those cheap X-Ray attacks. Hopefully there'll be an option to turn them off for online play.

They better return Sub-Zero to his MK3 greatness - give him back his speed and Ice Shower.

And bring back Reiko and Tanya!

I don't know, those X-Ray attacks were handy to have against Shao Kahn!

I'm wondering where there'll pick up the story from, seeing as how so many people are dead at the end of MK 9. I'm guessing they'll take a broad strokes approach to the story, or consider the Arcade Ladder endings part of the canon, rather than the Story Mode.

The Kotaku article did mention something about adding new characters to X.

I don't mind them against the cheap CPU. Just give us the option to disable them for 2-player or online play. It's a cheese move for noobs with little skill.

Fair call. I mostly play against the CPU anyway, so I guess that's why I never thought of it as an issue.

Well, I was already going to get it anyway, but that was awesome. Love some of the expansions on the signature moves, too.

I like that they're trying to change up gameplay a bit by adding a few new wrinkles. It reminds me a little of the different fighting styles in the PS2-era games.

This is too funny. How can you not like Marshawn Lynch?

This actually makes the game seem kinda fun. I might give the demo a shot

He's probably good at Tekken too because of his button mashing.

Instantly one of my favourite Clueless Gamer segments yet.

Meanwhile, on the more informative side of things: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/watch- ... 0-6425164/

Sounds good. I still favour the single player experience, but I'll have to give that a go.

Watched the video of all fatalities. a lot of them are the same with pulling/cutting off limbs. Best ones are the kenshi "telecopter", kotal Khan's "tube of toothpaste", and goro pulling all 4 limbs off

Meh, they're pretty tame for the most part. I feel like the old mk I/ii/iii fatalities were more gruesome. They were more gruesome, over-the-top, and "cartoony" while these new ones are more realistic/anatomically correct

Personally, I think the more realistic fatalities and x-ray moves are far more gruesome. It takes the edge off somewhat when your opponent explodes into a mess of eight different torsos, twenty legs, and five skulls. ;)

That does suck, but I think it'll prove to be worth the wait for long-time fans of the series. I've been pretty impressed so far, as Netherrealm's work on Injustice has definitely given them some good ideas as far as interacting with the environments, and the character variations do mix things up a bit. If you're a fan of the MK style, the gameplay is familiar but fun. X-Ray moves and Fatalities are entertainingly gory, and the story mode is pretty well done. I like how parts of it are told in flashback rather than the usual linear narrative of previous games, though the AI is kind of cheap, even outside what would normally be considered boss battles. Still, it's been a lot of fun so far. Taking my PS4 around to a friend's place this weekend, for multiplayer goodness.

Tried it a bit and seeing some of the characters made me feel old.

Like, Cassie Cage? I didn't even know Sonya and Johnny got together.
Even Jacqui Briggs, Jax has daughter now?! (I wonder how they are related to Marlow Briggs)

Yeah, the story mode takes place over 25 years, and introduces the next generation. That said, some of the original characters have aged quite well.

They also have a decent resolution to the issue of so many original characters being killed off by the end of the previous game. Well, it's kind of an ass pull in some ways, but it does fit within the established canon. The resolution even gives us resurrected human Scorpion.
