Mortal Kombat 9

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

In theory that's how it would work, same as a DVD/Blu-ray that's rated MA 15+ or higher. Of course, for the moment we're still lacking an 18+ classification for games and as I mentioned even if they do get it through, there's no guarantee that games like the new Mortal Kombat that have been banned will be reviewed once again. It seems more likely they'll use the new classification to re-rate MA 15+ games and rate new games that they'd let in as MA 15+ before as R18+ under the new system. There'll still be the same double standards, inconsistent standards and general stupidity towards how the games are classified.

I wish they would have included the entire MK kast. That's my only beef so far.

Decent list, though their reasoning on some of the selections was a little off. With two-legged Motaro for example, they were faced with the options of either heavily modifying the engine to accommodate his four-legged form or leaving him out of the game despite bringing everyone else back. I'd have to agree with Darrius and Kobra, they're not that memorable and pretty shallow parodies when it comes down to it. Kira and Dairou were also pretty bland when it came down to it and Jarek was just a knockoff of Kano, I'd have had them on the list too.

They certainly belong on the list (though Meat's teleport move in Armageddon was hilarious), but at the same time they were pretty much Easter Egg/throwaway bonus characters who were brought back in Armageddon simply because the idea was to bring everyone back. They were virtually non-canon before that.

there is not, the only "exclusive" xbox got was in the king of the hill mode or w/e it is that replicates the winner stays arcade format, you are your avatar instead of a MK character.

Rain, Frost, Kenshi and Reiko were totally badass, especially Frost. Those are the ones I miss the most.

I watched the endings on YouTube yesterday. Had to smile at the subtle jab at Australia in Sheeva's ending.

So, a few Aussies have been importing the game from the UK. Said Aussies would probably have a few things to say about the game.

They might say it's pretty damn awesome, though the AI can be a bit cheap at times...particularly when it comes to some of the boss fights in Story mode, Shao Kahn especially. They could opine that it is quite gory, though the refusal for classification is still a joke compared to what you see in movies and other games. It's possible that they really enjoyed Story mode and the way it covered the events of the first few games and made sense of a canon that has become more and more complicated as the years have gone by. All in all, it's likely they'd rate it as one of the best games in the series and a welcome improvement from the DC crossover.

At least, that's what I think they'd say.

Looks pretty cool. Someone who had the game would almost definitely be inclined to get it.

that's a pretty good review, shame you can't take credit for it

I think I'm picking this up when I find it ~$30. Me and fighting games don't usually have a good relationship other than Bushido Blade, Tobal, and DOA4 (Kathryn destroys me and all comers at that game)

I finally finished the Challenge Tower. Number 300 was brutal, but some dude at operationsports told me the secret to beating it.

Those are tough, especially when you have to switch between characters. It's all hand speed and timing. What challenge are you on?

Only 35 or something in that area, having skipped a couple of the projectile challenges. Those big Tarkartans just don't seem to go down.

Shit, those are easy compared to what's coming - try beating three Goros or three Shao Khans. Took me days to finish those.

I'll bet. The only way I managed to beat Shao Kahn in story mode was to spam the hell out of Liu Kang's fireball.

The first DLC pack is out, though I can't get it thanks to the regional lockout. If I sign up a new Windows Live ID and link it to my Xbox Live account, apparently the points will transfer over and I should be able to at least get it through the Marketplace website. It's a bit of messing around, though it is tempting.

From what I hear, dudes who've played with Skarlet say she's way overbalanced. Worse than Noob Saibot in Trilogy.

Rain & Kenshi are coming soon for DLC. Damn, I have to upgrade my PC so I can get these.
