Mafia 2 in Development
Just when you think you're out, they pull you back into a sequel.

by Ryan Geddes
August 21, 2007 - Illusion Softworks is developing a follow-up to the 2004 gangland crime game Mafia.

Set in the 1940s and 1950s, Mafia 2 will feature "high octane gunplay with white knuckle driving and an engaging narrative," according to a press release by publisher 2K Games.

"As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game's fans," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "The 'wow' factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies."

Illusion, based in Prague, Czech Republic, developed the original Mafia game and is also responsible for the Hidden and Dangerous and Vietcong series.

Mafia 2 is being developed for PC and "next-generation consoles," 2K said, but no specific platforms were mentioned.

I rented the first one, don't know why I didn't buy it, it was a great game, far better than the Godfather imo, and it's made by 2k so you know it's going to be a fairly polished game. The pic with main character just staring at the city in front of the red car just looks amazing.

Mafia is an amazing game period

I loved everything about it, great gameplay, story line and realism. I can't wait for 2 to come out!

He looks like Tommy, the protagonist from the first series. Is this still based on the Salieri family, or is this a totally new story. This kinda makes me want to reinstall and cruise through the mean streets of Lost Haven again....

Awesome. (Y)

I love the game in its realism, except for the race. :shake:

Mafia looks like GTA
(Sorry if that sounds like I think those pics are GTA, cause I don't. Just the style of the game.)

Well if you did the turns softly on 2nd gear you'd win. I remember first time I played it, took me about 2-3 days, once I got lucky as I kind of made the second car go off road, it flew up and blocked everyone else, I did the last 3 laps very cautiously and won.

I did those, but it took me time to figure that out. The car always flip upside-down and Tommy dies. :|

Anyways, you could've beaten it by cheating. All you had to do is drive into the blocked off road, drive through it and right as you get out on the road in the forest ( just before getting on the road ) press NUM0, it will skip a lap and you'll be #1, do this 5 times and you win.

Dunno, I never had a problem with the race in the first game, I used a dual analogue gamepad to control when i was driving though.

It also depends on if you installed the patch, as that made the racing much more forgiving.
