This video will show you how to:

Find a portrait
Edit your portrait
Find the portrait in NBA 2K17 Explorer that you want to overwrite
How to overwrite portrait and place in Modded Folder (External Plugin)
How to use Limnono Modifier to assign the portrait

TOOLS NEEDED

Template

External Plugin (Modded Folder)

http://forums.nba-live.com/viewtopic.php?f=225&t=102382

NBA 2K17 Explorer

Limnono Modifier

OPTIONAL: Paint.net (What I'm using in the video)

http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

NOTE: ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION. If you go to insert your portrait (import archive) in the iff editor, and a screen pops up with "DXT1 and SWIZZLE". Make sure you change DXT1 to DXT5, and keep Swizzle checked

Also, real quick.

If you are using my rosters (UFDR and UCTR), don't use 1152. I am using that one for the Charles Barkley Portrait.

Thanks!

Yes you can insert portraits to a draft class. The easiest way is to load a draft class into a random MyLeague, then use the method from the tutorial. When done save the draft class from MyLeague.

Hi! I'm looking for pictures for the portraits but I keep finding png of many players but they're all small. I could only find big photos for the well-known players. The ones I found in google are 384*384 and they all come from 2khead so I think they might be "original" but how is it possible if they are so small? I was wondering if you could share where do you find them or what prorgram you use to resize them without losing quality. THANK YOU! :)

I think you are confusing a few things. Use the tab in NBA 2K17 Explorer that I show in the video, find the portraits that end in "a1", and those are all the right portraits that you can overwrite. If you want portraits that are not used in the game, go to the high 8000's, or in the mid 1200 (Old free agents like Okafor and Ben Gordon). However, if you make portraits and than I use the same numbers you did, and you try to use my Classic Teams roster or UFDR, my portraits my overwrite yours.

Hopefully this helps.

Yes! Thank you! However, I still don't get that part. How can your portraits overwrite mine? (Sorry if this is obvious but I'm still pretty new at this editing mode of the game :? )

So, in conclusion, if I want to use other images, I have to look them up in those places right?

Yes.

And here is an example, Lets say I use 1152 for Charles Barkley, and I include that in one of my MOD packs. But you also use 1152 for a player... That would mean that when you download one of my rosters, and place the mod pack contents into your modded folder, my 1152 for Barkley would overwrite your 1152 portrait.

BTW, I did use 1152 for Barkley. Haha.

Yes, please see my basic roster editing tutorial in this section. It's a video like this one. Also, in the newest Limnono modifier release from Oct 8th, you can make a player keep a portrait on his home team.

If you have any questions, let me know.

And btw, Pachulia probably has a portrait but with the Mavericks. If you trade him to the Mavericks he will probably show a portrait. It's just how these games work now.

Is there anyway to remove portraits from all players? I'd rather just have the CF of the player show up.

You can't do it with just one key. You would have to go into each player in Limnono and just type "0" in the portrait ID slot, that would remove the players portrait.

I could do a tutorial on how to do this, but it's just easier to do the process of using the plugin edit so all players just keep portraits at all times. If you need to see step by step how to do that, please view the first post on both my all time teams roster and UFDR threads in the releases and previews section.

Yes, place the created player on a team and you can give them a portrait. If you have the always keeps portraits option set with the plugin, he will have that portrait on any team you put him on.

Hey Dee,

I'm just curious, after searching on Google for updated portraits, a lot of the images that pop up are not great quality once you resize them to 1024x1024. What do you recommend doing to portraits in paint.net to achieve the best quality in game?
For example, I save a png that is 400x384 and resize to 1024x1024 but the resolution is distorted or the image is stretched? Would you recommend a site to get the most recent images of players which would look clear in game without having to edit a watermark like Getty images?

Great tutorial. I've been adding some team logos. Most of them work, but everytime I try to import an image over a generic floor logo (I. E. The logos that show the team name on the floor while creating a stadium instead of saying, moda center or staples center) it immediately reverts back to the original image. I can open the file I saved into 'moddimg' with explorer. It shows the image I want. When I load the same file with editor, through the generated list, it always reverted back. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's a great question, I have no clue how that works. Maybe reach out to some of the court/stadium modders like Lagoa, Manni, etc.

I didn't get into modding stadiums this year.

I'm new to this but I followed your tutorial and before actually changing a portrait with the File Explorer I decided to just look up the *a1.iff file for what I assume is one of the European players chr_r4041.iff and to try change the face of someone on a locally saved roster that I had downloaded, though I also tried this with the official roster. In Limono I double clicked the player whose portrait I wanted to swap as a test and changed their portrait ID from 2662 to 4041 and clicked on refresh roster in Limono, but after several attempts and cycling through teams the portrait never changed. What might I being doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
