[NBA 2K17 TUTORIAL] How to edit Accessory Colours/Shoe Colours/Team Names etc.

Postby PeacemanNOT on Thu Sep 22, 2016 3:39 am

Introduction:
Last year I discovered a lot in regards to editing rosters, so this year I'm making a tutorial for everyone to use. It's actually crazy how simplistic this actually is, I'm actually quite surprised no one discovered this before. Anyways, let's get down to it.

Downloads:
You're going to need to download the following program before progressing any further:

Cheat Engine:
http://www.cheatengine.org/downloads.php

Cheat Engine is an open source tool designed to help you with modifying single player games running under window so you can make them harder or easier depending on your preference.

!!!Notice that it says single player! Do not use this tool for any online aspect of the game for e.g MyCareer, MyTeam etc. You have been warned!!!

Tutorial:

#1 - Basics:
This first section is just for the people who are using Cheat Enigne for the first time so you can skip ahead if you want. First off you're going to need to open NBA 2K17 with Cheat Engine. Make sure NBA 2K17 is open first of course, then you need to click the button in the the top left corner of the program which I have circled in red:

Image

Scroll through the list until you find 'NBA2K17.exe' and then double-click to open it. Cheat Engine is now attached to NBA 2K17.

#2 - General Thesis:
Basically how Cheat Engine works is it searches for different addresses/numbers in the NBA 2K17.exe which change. The only way to find these addresses is if we're able to change them or if they change by themselves. In this case we can change Accessory Colours/Team Names through MyLeague's Team Relocation feature, so let's do it.

IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE:
The only problem with editing accessory colours is each roster has its own unique addresses. Let's say for example if I found an accessory colour for the current roster that came with the game, and then 2K Sports released an new roster, I would need to go in again and find all those addresses again as they're completely different. It's an annoying process but this has been the case for years.

This also means that if you're going to be editing a rosters accessory colours you're going to have to make sure that the MyLeague you're going to be editing is using that exact same roster. Please take note of this when you're first starting off.

#3 - Editing Accessory Colours
First off you need to open up a new MyLeague using the same the roster you want to edit. Once loaded up select the team you want to edit and enter Team Relocation/Design Uniform. Let's start off with the home jersey, first remove all numbers, names on the back of jerseys etc. so all you have left is just a blank jersey. Make the jersey completely white, and I mean completely white. Like this:

Image

Next, save and exit the Design Uniform section so that the jersey saves. Now you're going to need to tab out of the game and open Cheat Engine again. When you change the colour of a jersey it also changes the colour of accessories, shoes etc.
So in order to find a colour address you're going to need to search it up with the following settings. Set the Value Type to 'Array of Byte' and make sure the 'Hex' box is ticked. To find the colour white we need to find the hex code of that colour, in this case the hex code for the colour white is' 'FFFFFF' (without the Apostrophes).

So all in all it should end up looking like this:

Image

Go ahead and press First Scan, you should notice a bunch of 'FFFFFF' hex codes will pop up on the left.
It will also say 'Found:' just above it. Your goal is to get that number to as low as possible. Now you're going to repeat the process. Go into Team Relocation/Design Uniform again but this time make the jersey completely black, and I mean completely black. Save and exit the Design Uniform section. Tab out of the game and this type in the following hex code '000000'. Go ahead and press the 'Next Scan' button. You will notice that all the 'FFFFFF' hex codes on the left will turn to the black hex code.

So as you would imagine the process repeats itself over and over until you can reduce the number of addresses found to atleast below 100.

Once you get the 'Found:' number ideally below 100, you can exit MyLeague. Go into your roster, and enter the team you want to edit. In Cheat Engine the table on the left will be full with random hex codes now, if you scroll down you will notice that there are green addresses and then there are black ones. The only ones you should be concerned about should be the green ones. From here on out it's pretty much trial and error. To edit an address double click it and it will pop down on the bottom. It should look like this:

Image

Double click the value and change the hex codes to whatever you want. You can find colour hex codes in programs such as Photoshop/Gimp/Paint.NET etc. or websites like these:

http://www.color-hex.com/

In this case, I was able to find the Socks address, so I changed it to pink just to test:

Image

The process needs to be repeated for the away accessory colours. Unfortunately there is no way to edit the alternate jerseys with cheat engine, so you will have to do with editing only the home and away ones for now.

#4 - Editing Team Names:
For editing team names it is a little different. Instead of searching for an address as a 'Array of Byte' you search for it as a 'String' and make sure the 'Unicode' box is ticked to the right of it. So it looks like this:

Image

It works the exact same as it does for the accessory colours. Enter MyLeague, select the team you want to edit and go into the Team Relocation/Team Branding. Tab out of the game and open Cheat Engine and search for your team's name, so in my case it is the '76ers'. Please take note that it will be case sensitive so make sure to include capital letters etc. Go ahead and press 'First Scan', this will bring up a bunch of addresses to the left.

Now go back to the game and edit the name of the team to whatever you want, make it unique so that it is very easy to find. I'm going to change their name to 'PeacemanNOT'. Save and exit the Team Branding section so that the team name saves. Once you've typed in the new name go ahead and search for it. Again the only address you should be concerned about should be the green ones. Go ahead and double click both of the team names so they will pop to the bottom. It should look like this:

Image

Repeat this entire process to get the Team's City name and abbreviation.
Once you get the addresses you need, you can exit MyLeague. Go into the roster you want to edit. You will notice that one of the addresses has gone back to normal, this is the one you want to change. So just to test it out, I changed the address to PeacemanNOT and this was the result:

Image

That's pretty much it, hopefully this works for you and if you have any problems be sure to tell me down below. (Y)

Yeah, that's what I did with the Rio 2016 Patch. You just edit the address in cheat engine and the save and exit the roster.

Try instead of searching for a team name/ city name, search for the year '07 08'in cheat engine. You might get a lot of addresses but I'm sure you can narrow it down to one.

You should be able to get it if you keep changing the jersey and shorts from white to black while searching FFFFFF and 000000 everytime. Once you narrow down the addresses to a small number it's trial and error from there.

First of all in the roster you're trying to edit, are you using the same roster in MyLeague?

Yes sir same roster. I cant find that color blue..

If you read the tutorial thoroughly you would understand. Okay here.... do all the white black stuff then exit and open a create a roster with THE SAME ROSTER AS MYLEAGUE, this is very important. You will find your blue, edit it and see if the socks change.

In the jersey iff, edit the RDAT file and change the short type to CLASSIC or RETRO. Not sure which one, but it's at least one of those. Could be both.

Thank You. I found this setup, but I have another problem. I can't create good iff file. If I changed shorts Chicago Bulls 2016's to CLASSIC, my players are invisible. I'm using NBA2K17 explorer 0.52 and NBA2k17 iff editor
I have a codes:
"Traceback (most recent call last):
File "myqmodels.py", line 1285, in columnCount
IndexError: list index out of range
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "myqmodels.py", line 1285, in columnCount
IndexError: list index out of range
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "myqmodels.py", line 1285, in columnCount
IndexError: list index out of range"

For example:

I download face0948.iff shaq face, and copy to waigua plugin, and shaq face is changed.
But.....
If I open face0948.iff with NBA2k17 iff editor and export face_color_o.magic.dds and (no edit) import back, I have a code: "struct.error: unpack requires a string argument of length 4"
If I'am ignoring and save file, my NBA2k17 iff editor can't open this file again, because "struct.error: unpack requires a string argument of length 4".
If I'm starting a game, Shaq is invisible.

I can unpack iff file, but I can't pack iff file back.

I tried with 7zip like this: viewtopic.php?f=222&t=100229
unpack iff file, no edit, and pack again.
but I have the same problem, players are invisible

I see people asking if the team renaming still works. It definitely does. The jersey section (and therefore access. colors) are the only things we can't do anymore.

You can't change accessory colours anymore due to an update to force all rosters to use the same accessory/sock/shoe colours etc.

Hello.
Please help me, how to edit PPG, RPG, APG and other archive stats in "view player card"

For example how to change:
22.7 PPG in 85-86 season
to 42.7 PPG in 85-86 season
for Michael Jordan player card

or how to add new season stats to player cards

I can't find a right file :/

Well, thanx for this tutorial PeacemanNOT.

But i need your help

I can change Chicago Bulls, but I can't find '92-'93 for example.

So I can't find the entire name of the classic teams.
