Goldenstate77's Reshade/Sweetfx (UPDATED)

Postby goldenstate77 on Mon Sep 19, 2016 6:03 am

This is a feedback thread for my reshade (sweetfx) mod, which you can download here: Goldenstate77's 2K17 Reshade/Sweetfx (UPDATED)

UPDATE 10/19/16: Now includes 7 versions (my 2K15 and 2K15 settings + two 2K17 settings). All work in NBA 2K17, however only the two 2K17 settings (v1 and v2) were made specifically for 2K17. Note: that you should be able to alt-tab to Reshade’s mediator application to change between settings in game (in order to find the setting that best suits you).

FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING ISSUES USING RESHADE WITH WAIGUADLL (I.E. THE GAME DOESN'T LOAD):

1) Keep clicking on NBA2K17.exe and the game should eventually load. I have not found a fix for this yet.
2) Some have said that every time they click on NBA2K17.exe, a new processes has started. This doesn't happen for me, but you might want to check. Wait until the game actually loads, then alt+tab out to the desktop, press control+alt+delete and open task manager, and close any open instances of NBA2K17.exe that are not actually loaded.

Comparison screenshots for the 2K17 v1 setting (i.e. with sliders):

https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/43975/full/
https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/43980/full/
https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/43979/full/

https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/43977/full/
https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/43976/full/

2K17 v1 setting:
1) Eliminates the yellowish tint.
2) Significantly reduces/eliminates fog
3) Introduces a “halogen stadium lighting” look (i.e. reduces color temp a tad).

2K17 v2 setting:
1) Eliminates the yellowish tint.
2) Significantly reduces fog.
3) Is less of a performance hit than the 2K17 v1 setting

NOTE: This mod uses Reshade, an injector developed by crosire, which combines post-processing shaders by Lucifer Hawk, Ganossa, CeeJay.dk, Marty McFly, and JPulowski. Reshade supports DX8-11, and is compatible with all versions of Windows (i.e. Vista to Windows 10). All credit goes to them for creating this terrific tool.

Directions:
Please follow the instructions carefully, as Reshade works a bit differently than Sweetfx in the past.

1) Download the mod.
2) Extract the Reshade 2.0.3 folder to a permanent location (i.e. where you save important game files / applications).
3) Run Mediator.exe (i.e. double click it).
7) Click “Add” on the left, and locate “NBA2K17.exe” (typically c:\program files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\NBA 2K17).
8) Be sure to check Direct3D 10/11 (defaults to Direct 3D9).
9) Click “Confirm”.
10) Within the black drop down box (on the right), select “2K17v1” preset (and any of the seven settings I’ve included).
11) Click “Apply” on upper right.
12) Close Mediator, fire up the game.

Note 1: As you start the game, you should see Reshade load (upper left of screen).
Note 2: You can toggle the Reshade effect with the scroll lock key, and take screenshots with the print screen key. Screenshots are saved in your NBA 2K17 folder.
Note 3: You may need to adjust the brightness of your screen.
Note 4: If the game crashes on startup, try disabling steam overlay, and killing other applications (i.e. afterburner, precision, etc.). I didn’t have any problems.
Note 5: To try one of the other settings, open Mediator.exe, select NBA2K17 from the drop down menu on the left. Click Update. Be sure Direct3D 10/11 is checked. Select the present you would like to try from the drop down menu on the right, and then click apply on upper right.

Sure happy to help you troubleshoot. Can you share your system specs including operating system? Also, did you try disabling steam's ingame overlay? That was causing some problems with certain systems last year. Right click on the game in steam, then uncheck the allow in game overlay.

Also, in Mediator, I assume you checked Dx10/11 (it defaults to dx9, I think). Perhaps you could post the dxgi.log contents?

Okay interesting. I'm on mobile otherwise would look for you but somewhere On the reshade site they indicate a couple requisite files (I.e Microsoft visual c++ redistributable) and provide links if I remember correctly. Try installing /reinstalling those. Also you could try reinstalling directx. I will look at you log file when I get home tonight.

Okay let's try:
1) Delete Existing Reshade Files from NBA 2K17 folder (the folder named "Reshade", and the following files: dxgi.dll, dxgi.log, reshade.
2) Reinstall directx. Navigate to NBA 2K17/_CommonRedist/DirectX/June2010/DXSETUP.exe. Double click, and follow instructions.
3) Download and install DirectX End-User Runtines (June 2010), which is required for Reshade: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=8109
4) Open Mediator, and follow my Reshade install instructions.

Please let me know if this works.

Can you release a performance friendly version? Tried using this reshade preset and it gives me -10 fps.

Yes actually working one now that doesn't use HDR, which is usually the culprit (even though mine doesn't use that much of it). Also SMAA is nice but not necessary, as the in game AA is good. 10 fps is quite a bit... Can you share your system specs and the FPS you get with and without my settings , just so I have an idea... Thx

Edit: should have mentioned that for me it's only a 3-4 fps hit, but I have a fairly beefy system.

CPU is i5-4670k still on stock. GPU is GTX 770. I get 60fps without the reshade and 48-52 with it enabled.

Your past reshades worked fine on 2k16 though. Thanks..

ah bummer. was hoping that would fix the issue. i see some people on the reshade forum have had issue with certain start-up services, i.e. precision's updater, or afterburner's updater. you might check your start-up services and try to disable any obvious ones that are not necessary. Just a thought. Sadly the log file didn't really shed much light on the issue, at least to me anyway, because it doesn't show any conflicts or errors--it just drops past a certain point. I will look tonight because I believe there is a flag to create a more detailed log file. I just have to look to remember how you do it.
it's difficult to know how widespread the problem is at this point. sorry that it's not working for you.

@goldenstate77 thank you and i appreciate it for trying to help me out about this first time ever crap i ever had

in your decription you say we have to create a folder named “Reshade Files” where exactly?
because i create this folder to my desktop. should i put this inside my nba2k17 game directory or in my D: drive where my games are installed?

one more thing is just a thought BUT,

maybe the file dxgi itself is the reason what if i rename it to d3d11?
we didn't think about it in the first place

It's no problem, and I haven't given up on you. I will search around some more when I get home from work. We should be able to find a solution.

I shouldn't matter where you put the Reshade Files folder. I put it in my D drive, an HDD where I save other non essential applications/programs, while the NBA 2K17 folder is on my G drive, a SSD where I store my newer games.

You can try changing the name of the dxgi folder to d3d11. I saw that potential fix on the reshade forum, however those that sait it "worked" we're only able to load the game properly, but the shaders themselves were not activated (i.e. so it looked no different than default). However no harm in trying, as the experiences I read about were with games.

I've just noticed myself when i renamed it to d3d11 and see there the game starts but as you said
it seems that the effect will not be activated it stays as it is the default one :(

well it was worth a try

avatar, just to be sure, you downloaded version 2.0.3 from the reshade site (I haven't tested this on the new 3.0 beta, although it should work fine), and have you updated your NVidia driver lately? (I'm using the one released on Aug. 30).

Well, nobody has posted any issues with Reshade and NBA 2K17 specifically, but with various other games...

I wonder if you could try just using the standard sweetfx injector with my settings (as I'm only using sweetfx shaders via reshade). I can send you the settings later...still at work sadly.

Okay Avatar, try deleting all the reshade related files, then dropping the attached into your game directory. Not sure it will work, or look how its supposed to (i can't test it on my machine), so you'll have to get a sense from the screenshots. This is Sweetfx 1.51, and I had to copy my settings over (so not sure if the shaders are exactly the same as the sweetfx shaders in reshade, but I assume they would be.
