Well I basically would like to get your views on good Position/Archetype setups including size, wingspan and weight. I started my first Career with a 6'8 250 pound Point Forward with the shortest wingspan possible to increase his shooting touch. It's not a bad built in terms of what you can get out of it. Everything is average besides Agility and Playmaking so you can easily get triple doubles and be involved in the offense as a facilitator but not the sole one which takes a bit off the pressure of from playing Point Guard. It also allows you to bang in the paint a bit so that's a nice bonus. Atm I'm only using this career to grind out VC so I can start with a Player that is maxed out (apart from the missing upgrades of course). Since I don't want to waste VC on a build I hate I'm going to ask around here to find myself a good build.
Now I know I like a point forward. My problem with the point forward is that, in terms of scoring, you are fairly limited. Your midrange and 3 point game is decent I guess but only if you take open shots mainly or come of the pick and pop. Your handles are good but I'm not much for playground basketball. Your inside game is sort of alright as well but definitely not good enough to slash a lot. I enjoy it and may just start this one again but I personally usually prefer to play more of a true big man PF/C.
I found two interesting setups on this so far:
Sort of a Yao Mingish post scorer:
Sort of a Hassan Whitesidish glass cleaner:
Those are both nice setups. The first one is what I usually went for the last couple of years but it does limit you a lot in that you can't for the life of you run a fastbreak, your player itselfs steers like an old bus and you are limited a lot on offense due to the fact that all your stuff comes from inside and nearly all teams now don't play that way anymore so unless you call for the ball all the time you simply will not be involved in the offense. This guy would be even slower due to the negative effects of the higher weight and bigger size.
The second type is more intriguing as it still has a decent midrange shot that can be boosted, is very quick for the size and position especially with the weight loss, has high defense and rebounding ceilings so could be and would be more involved in the offense.
I'm still not too sure center is the way to go this time though. Some power forward builds are nice as well but most lack a good mixture. Yes there is the Dirk and Porzingis archetype but he is far too slow on his feet and useless in the post, even though Dirk and Kristaps aren't. You can have a 6'6 Draymond Green but he lacks the playmaking ability and and three point shot to really endeare himself to me.
There is an interesting alternative:
I guess this is what Brandon Ingram could become. Good shot, good finishing, due to the height decent chance of rebounds and defense and good speed due to the weight.
Personally I'm unsure what to go for really. I think the archetypes are crap to be honest because I think a general upgrade limit would be better than this artificial nonsense. That would allow be to go for what I want. A mobile 7 footer like KAT with a good stroke from 3 point and midrange, a decent postgame, decent ball handling etc. Basically a Pointcenter if you will. I'd like to have a type like the Point Forward on Center or Power Forward. Bigger, Stronger, bit slower but still fairly quick, soft hands to pass and help the flow of the game and decent offensive skills in most categories without being totally brilliant in one of them. I know the 6'7 point guard with short arms and low weight is supposed to be lethal this year but tbh that's not really my style of play. I like to occassionally handle the ball or pass to the open man but I'm more of a banger and post defender than someone who wants to make the game for 40 minutes a game. I'd like to be a versatile offensive threat so that they can't just double me in the post but I can draw them out too so they can double me on the perimeter and have enough handling to complete the pass to the open man. Shooting Guard is fine I suppose but tbh that position always frustrated me since you basically barely handle the ball but somehow end up with it all the time when all is lost. So I might as well play Point Guard.
So what do you guys think? What are your experiences with the different Archetype/Position combinations and does anybody here have an idea which setup would suit my kind of playstyle best?
