Talk about NBA 2K17 here.

Have a question to you guys - do you prefer Absolute or Camera Relative?
I had been using camera relative all this time but find that I cannot dribble as well as if I set it to Absolute. Layups and dunks, on the other hand, are more natural being Camera relative. Shooting jumpers though is best as Absolute since you don't have to worry about which way is up (for a bank shot).
On this last point, is shooting jumpers absolute all the time? Stick Up seems to always be bank shot.

By the way, I think this is the best dribbling NBA 2k I've ever played and a very close second to the year NBA Live (was it 2003?) started using the dribble stick. Very fast and responsive. I can do almost exactly the move I want with 90% accuracy. I only wish controllers had a third analog stick for shooting because it's very easy to mistakenly do a pump fake that ends your dribble sequence.

100% agree, best dribbling maybe ever in a game. It's so fun.
I use the default, which I believe is camera relative. I tried absolute once, and it wasn't working well for me...

I think it makes most sense to use Absolute for dribbling, even if it's not as intuitive at first.
Ultimately, you'll get it ingrained in your muscle memory and will not have to do any sort of processing of which direction you're facing and adjusting inputs according. If you want to do a multi-move chain, it will always be the same, no mater where you are.

That is exactly how I feel.

Yeah, absolute is better IMO when you get used to it.

I actually find the Absolute setting to be more intuitive than Screen Relative, but that could be because of my history playing NBA Live. In any event, I just feel that it makes sense for right on the stick to always be towards the right hand, left to the left hand, up always forward, down always back, etc. I'd rather be able to perform moves using the same stick movements no matter where I am on the court, or which camera angle I'm using, so Absolute is absolutely my preference.

I agree.

Yeah. Absolute is my preference too.

Funny. Before seeing this thread, I texted my boy today and asked the same question. I mentioned I've been using camera relative but I'm thinking of switching to Live style, absolute. With this change, I will be playing more on broadcast cam instead of 2K.

If you play on Broadcast, I'd definitely recommend Absolute.

Absolute is the only way to play. It may take some getting used to, but it's the way to go for sure.

Absolute everywhere is my choice since 2K14

Just like Andrew wrote:

I have to agree 95%. It's really tough to translate your current position (which way you're facing) to dribbling. The controller is aligned with my hands right in front of me and in line with my body so if I want to do a between legs crossover, it's natural to do stick down and to left/right.

The only time when Absolute throws me off is shooting. And particularly when you're on the baseline coming down (broadcast cam). You need to reverse the polarity of left or right hand in order to do a reverse layup. Coming straight down the lane throws me off too. If you aim towards the rim, you're actually doing a right hand layup with Absolute.
I wish 2k would separate the shooting setting with dribble setting. Dribble = Absolute, Shooting = screen relative.
All this is fixed by the way if you play in first person view. Problem is that I hate how the world around me rotates as I change direction. Dizzying effect and horrid on the frame rates if you have an average computer.

I actually find Absolute more intuitive for shooting as well, since I can keep in mind that down is always away from the basket, up is towards the basket, and left and right are (obviously) left and right of the basket for the new elusive layups, or left and right handed dunks.

And they do don't they? There are 3 possibilities to chose Absolute\Cam Relative in Controller settings. I don't quite remember what fore but if it is not for dribbling, shooting, something else separation then what for. I'll check it later when I'll be at home.

The three Absolute/Camera Relative options are Pro Stick Orientation (dribbling and shooting), Off-ball freelance Mode, and Pro Stick Defense.

Yes, my bet. Just check it few minutes ago. I always thought that was for dribbling and shooting.

And another thing, why does the game keep reverting to default settings? I set my controller settings (absolute for all) in the main menu, saved it. Every so often, when a game starts in mycareer, it reverts totally to Camera relative. Other settings too. Really really annoying. Just had a turnover because instead of behind the back, my guy did a crossover.

I haven't noticed it resetting on me yet, but I'm going to keep my eye out for that now. Might be another one for the bug list, I doubt it's by design.
