What's the craziest rule change you've seen so far?

Tue Sep 20, 2016 9:03 pm

During the off-season I came across stuff like "increase shot clock to 45 seconds" (29 owners voted yes on this one), "automatic points granted on shooting fouls" and "eliminate goaltending rule completely". In my 1st season, Westbrook was named MVP averaging like 13 ppg (6 min quarters). After the shot clock change, no player averaged more than 8 ppg. I love this feature.

Was that in MyLEAGUE or MyGM?

I simmed a bunch of MyLeague seasons ahead with max expansion teams just to see what would happen and one year the owners not only increased the shot clock to 45, they cut the salary cap in half and increased the foul out limit to nine fouls a game or something lol

I think they rejected the automatic points rule. The other years they basically were disapproving of everything.

One thing is they seem to change the trade deadline every year or every other year.

MyLeague. I haven't tried MyGM yet, but I think rule changes are the same on both modes.

Yes. They also proposed here that college players had to stay at least three years in school before going pro, which is cool. One other thing that they seem to like to change a lot is the 8 seconds to advance to the frontcourt rule. They like to trim it down to 6 seconds, which I find cool because you can crowd the opposing PG and force more turnovers. Another nice thing is that you can override the decisions, so if one nice random rule suddenly appears you can apply it regardless of the owners' decision.

Seriously, I've been playing basketball video-games pretty much since NBA Live 2000 and I have never seen something like this before. It gives a sense of "my league", I mean, a league that is really mine and has it's own rules comparing to basketball played elsewhere.

Thanks Leftos.

They are, except you can override them in MyLEAGUE. Was just curious which mode you'd gone for. The blog on MyLEAGUE/MyGM also mentioned that successful rule changes were fairly rare, so it's interesting to see that quite a few of them are happening.

They removed the shot clock in MYGM. Seems like it would make the game super boring. I'm not digging the random rule changes at all in MYGM.

I do seriously hope they will add an option that will allow you to be the last instance to decide whether these changes should be implemented.

If the league in 2k was to increase the shot clock to 45 seconds does the cpu team adjust and take up more of the clock or does it still bolt down the court for a "7 seconds or less" style offence?

Try it... or try no shot clock... it's like the 1950's. The game is slow and basically it's a hold onto the ball mentality. The same goes for if the backcourt violation and goaltending are abolished... I mean I guess it's fun to try out your players in another environment but not when you are forced into it.

It's a strange way for 2k to take things imo I mean if it ain't broken why fix the rules? I could see goaltending being thrown out to be like Europe but not sure on the shotclock.

It's the league. They wanted to simulate possible changes in rules, salary cap etc. it's not a bad idea but for christ's sake how can you be so lazy and not add an option to either disable that, like MyLeague has had for 2 years or simply allow the user to have the last word.

Yeah I definitely agree there should be some kind if overide option in there.

That's MyLeague dude... no such option in MyGM

I just asked Leftos and he says the rules only, maybe, change if you agreed to the change. If you veto a rule in MyGM it never goes through. My experience is different how about yours? I had 2 rules pass when I said I do not agree. In another MyGM I also had another 2 rules pass I did not agree with.

It's definitely a good idea in theory, adding another element of real life to MyLEAGUE and MyGM. However, if sweeping rule changes are happening a bit too often, then something definitely isn't working properly.

Well I send Leftos 2 screenshots of MyGM's I started yesterday to recreate a MyGM save I corrupted using Limnonos tool. It happened again. Both times nothing major but I disagreed with every single rule change and they still adopted one or two. We need a patch that allows us to have the last say, Leftos said it should already be the case, and we need an option menu to change back old rule changes otherwise you can start your MyGM save again every time they make a silly rule change.

You do have the last say... In MyLeague.

And who was talking about MyLeague the last couple of posts? We know that. Most of us have played MyLeague and the veto feature has been there for the last 2 years.

Re: What's the craziest rule change you've seen so far?

Wed Sep 21, 2016 7:59 pm

I think Dommy's point is that MyLEAGUE is the mode of choice if you want that kind of control, while you have to go with the flow in MyGM. However, it does sound like too many rule changes are taking place, which I'd say needs to be patched. There's probably not going to be any veto power because it's not within the MyGM concept, but yeah, sounds like a fix for the frequency is needed.

Not true. This is what Leftos had to say:

https://twitter.com/leftosa/status/778299813624291328

It wouldn't make sense to just press something on you. There should be an option to disable it right away OR if not it should depend on you as the user. Leftos said that this is the way it is supposed to work and he will look into why it doesn't.

MyLeague is not my mode of choice. I want to be a GM.

Re: What's the craziest rule change you've seen so far?

Wed Sep 21, 2016 8:21 pm

Yes, I get that MyLEAGUE isn't your mode of choice. I wasn't suggesting that you play it instead.

My point was that in general, the approach of MyGM is going to give you less control over things than MyLEAGUE, so there likely won't be the same level of absolute veto power. That said, if voting no to rule changes is supposed to heavily influence the outcome and essentially work as a veto, and it consistently isn't, then I absolutely agree it needs to be fixed in a patch.

Re: What's the craziest rule change you've seen so far?

Wed Sep 21, 2016 8:24 pm

Well it's the only way it would make sense tbh unless you give the user an option to disable it completely or a menu to adjust certain rule changes after they have been made. I mean it can absolutely and easily clunk a save game... think about a league with no shot clock, no goal tending, no fouling out, no backcourt violation, no 3 second rule...

Re: What's the craziest rule change you've seen so far?

Wed Sep 21, 2016 8:28 pm

Agreed, it needs to be addressed as soon as possible, from the sounds of things.
