Personally, I've gone with a Playmaker point guard, since that's the role I like to play on our NLSC 2K Pro-Am squad. I feel like the caps on shooting ratings are a bit harsh, and don't reflect playmakers who could shoot the lights out like John Stockton, but it suits what I like to do in MyCAREER and Pro-Am, so that's what I'm running with.

I chose lockdown defender point guard as I had my 2K16 character almost maxed out on defense and pretty high in shooting for a great 3 & D player

In prelude I chose Slasher SF and it was pretty good, so I might run with it. Alternatively I was thinking about Slasher SG.

I definitely will be C, but I didn't decide, what archetype: it will be Paint Protector or Glass Cleaner. It depends of how 2K have changed rebound\blocks mechanics and what will be better: 77 Reb for good rebounds and better speed\agility with PP, or 78-79 Block-Steal for good defense and better standing dunk and way better contact dunk with GC. As for now I'm leaning toward PP.

Not sure if I should go with SG 6'6 shot creator or 7' center post scorer.

Did you go 5'7" again? At least we can change the lineup if it puts you in at centre this year.

I'll force myself to Cleveland as an athletic center. McGee type player

Ahh, the annual dilemma. I'm with you Andrew, I've always been a playmaker PG because I love passing and making big plays in mypark. But the shooting penalty in 2k16 was painful. It was embarrassing when teammates passed to me and I bricked wide open 3 after wide open 3. While everyone else shot the lights out. I'm wondering if it makes sense just to take the shooting archetype. I mean, passing rating doesn't really mean much, right? Aside from big men passing, I don't see that many passes go flying out of bounds at all in MyPark.

It's kinda like the inside scoring category in 2k16. I didn't upgrade it by a single bar (65) and yet I hit every single layup I took (95% wide open), including 10% of challenged ones. It's more user control based than stats based. Whereas shooting is definitely more stat based than user, at least in 2k16.

Can't decide between 6'3 playmaking PG or 6'7-6'8 stretch 4.
If I go with stretch 4 what teams should I aim for? Boston is a pretty good option in my opinion

I know very few games can get the balance 100% right (Streetfighter II comes to mind) where every type of character has its strengths and weaknesses yet can compete with each other if the user is skilled.

The past 2K's have skewed heavily towards fast, agile, small guards who can shoot the lights out. They are valued highly in MyPark and Pro-Am. This is primarily because open 3's go in about 70-85% of the time. Rebounding wasn't an issue either as big men were sometimes too slow to outrebound a darting PG. 2k15 was worse in that instead of 3's and 2's, it was 2's and 1's, which made a long bomb worth 2x as much as a dunk or layup.

The easy fix for this is for 2k to tune down 3 pt shooting to 40%. Problem is, if you do that, there's a big disconnect between cause and effect; you work hard to get an open shot and when you do, it's a brick. People don't like that in the arcade style MyPark. I know I complained heavily back in the day about momentum BS and such.

Passing ratings do matter to some extent, though if you're careful you can certainly make ones that aren't particularly risky (at least in 2K Pro-Am). Being able to protect the ball and avoid getting it stolen is also a factor, though you can usually get by without maxing it out. My hope is that the new shooting mechanics do compensate for the lower rating caps, but I think it'll be fine once I've levelled up a bit. The caps are pretty low for the Slasher archetype though. I know it's done for balance, but seeing as though there are players who are great athletes and dependable three-point and/or midrange shooters as well, it's perhaps a bit too restrictive.

I'm kinda glad for the level caps being lower. Tired of seeing every single player being amazing in MyPark. And it'll be fun to play off each other's strengths and weaknesses instead of watching centers chuck 3's and nailing them.

Now, if only 2k17 will ban hackers. Cause otherwise, the gap between my limited PG and their 99-everything 7 footer PG is going to be even bigger.

Sharpshooter for me. I want my player to be the next Larry Bird.

I'm gonna be a 6-1 170 PG going to Arizona as a playmaker. That's probably my future body type.

I wondering what type are Vince Carter or Kobe

I'd consider both to be shot creators over other archetypes.

Man, this is going to be a tough choice. In 2K15, I went with my preference. I'm ashamed to say that in 2K16, I went with what user youtube videos recommended to max out your player for online play. Right down to shooting style, crossover, maxing arm length (for steals and rebounds), and player archetype.

I think you basically had to last year. So many people were min-maxing and taking advantage of completely unbalanced supercharged builds, so you're pretty much forced to do the same, at least to some extent.

Did you go 5'7" again? At least we can change the lineup if it puts you in at centre this year.

 yup I have my real height and now real wingspan and distance between shoulders!

I wanted to use my real wingspan, but my shooting ratings were going to take a hit if i did.

Glass Cleaner Center. I loved my Center last Year, even though I did not play much MyPlayer. Played a bit of MyPark with a friend and we owned 2v2 even though we both were 85/87 - but even Double 99 Cheaters were not much of a challenge.

Man, you're gonna get killed in MyPark. I only saw 1 or 2 players all year with heights under 6ft and they got destroyed. I learned this the hard way in 2k14 when I used my actual height of 5' 10".
