NBA 2K17 PC hardware requirements

Postby ThePointForward on Mon Sep 12, 2016 11:17 pm

Quick notes about changes from 2K16: They upped requirement for minimum CPU (Core2Duo => i3), GPU (DX 10.1 (512 MB VRAM) => DX 11 (specific models with at least 1 GB VRAM)) and storage (50 GB => 70 GB).
Recommended requirements got bumped in terms of RAM - from 4 GB to 8 GB. Other than that they're basically the same, they just went into details this year (as in Intel "i5-4430" instead of "Intel i5").

And here are the specifics...
  • Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit
    • CPU: Intel Core i3-530 @ 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenom II X4 805 @ 2.50 GHz or better
    • RAM: 4 GB RAM
    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 1GB / ATI Radeon HD 6450 1GB or better
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 70 GB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0x compatible
    • Additional Notes: Initial installation requires one-time internet connection for Steam authentication; software installations required (included with the game) include DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributable 2012.
  • Recommended:
    • OS: Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit
    • CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 @ 3 GHz / AMD FX-8370 @ 3.4 GHz or better
    • RAM: 8 GB RAM
    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB / ATI Radeon R9 270 2GB or better
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 70 GB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
    • Additional Notes: Dual-analog gamepad

Not sure if this will be helpful for anyone. But just some food for thought:

I bought a rig this weekend cheap as a second computer for my living room. It was $400 off of Craigslist, just built. It runs NBA 2k16 on Medium-High at a solid 60 FPS.

- AMD FX 6300 3.5 GHZ Processor (6 core)
- NVIDIA GTX 960 (2GB of video memory, so the textures could only be on Medium)
- 8GB of RAM (cant remember the brand)
- Windows 10
- Did not overclock

It looks like this meets the recommended for NBA 2K17 as well. For those looking for a budget rig that can run it atleast on Medium settings, its possible. With this rig, I was able to max out Elder Scrolls Online on Ultra (This was purchased mainly for that game so my brother and I can play with dual screens in the living room).

For NBA 2k16, i use my main computer for it. With this, I can run it maxed out with:

- AMD 8320 3.5 GHZ (8 core)
- R9 280x Graphics Card
- 8GB of RAM
- Windows 7 home
- Did not overclock

I'll be using this rig for NBA 2k17. I am sure I will be fine. I feel that success stories on here in regards to rigs that run the games well would be beneficial for all.

These two computers are hooked up to two 50 inch LED TV's (One Samsung, one Vizio) in my living room via HDMI.

Good luck everyone!

Obviously same as 2K16, since it runs on the same bad Consoles they can't just increase the graphics or Consoles would even drop lower than they already are.

Not exactly same as they seem to have ditched DX 10.1 support.

Because the SystemRequirements recommend a DX11 Card doesn't mean DX10.1 isn't supported anymore. ANy seriously, who the fuck doesn't have a DX11 Card? DX11 is fucking 8 Years old :D
They aren't going to add special features for the PC Version, so if you can play 2K15/16 you can play 2K17 at pretty much the same Framerate.
