The best thing you will ever read...

Lots of details

Improved Record Tracking

At the NBA level, we now track the top 100 all-time leaders for 21 different stats across career records, season records, single game records, and single game playoff records. As you play through your league, you will see players rise through the ranks. It’s pretty cool to see how this looks after simulating 50 seasons. At the Team level, we now track the 5 all-time leaders across 10 different stats, for every team. I’m a bit of a stats junkie, so this is pure stat candy for me. I hope it will be for your as well!

Draft Class Improvements

Draft Classes can now be imported and edited at ANY point (read: editing can happen AFTER importing while the season is ongoing). Additionally, Draft Classes created in-mode can be saved to their own files as well.

New Automated Scouting Logic

Your scouts are now much, much smarter when you enable automated prospect scouting. They will look at your assortment of picks and scout players appropriate for your expected draft position. They are also significantly better at sticking to your guidelines for searches (e.g. when searching for ‘Best Available’, ‘Sleepers’, etc.).

Improved Trade Rumors

Trade Rumor posts in Social Media have been greatly improved, and are much more in line with actual talks that teams are having behind the scenes. But, can you believe everything you read?

Veteran’s Minimum Contract Rule Added

Not all minimum contracts are created equal, but they kind of are. This year, we have added support for veteran’s minimum contracts. This CBA rule allocates the minimum amount of money that a team must pay a player based on his years of service in the league. The interesting part is, regardless of the amount that the team is required to pay for the player (based on his years of service), the actual cap hit for this player will likely be significantly less. As an example, Chris Andersen signed with the Cavaliers on a 1 year minimum this offseason. Based on his years of service, this means the Cavs will pay him $1,551,659. The actual amount that counts against the cap is $980,431. One bonus to this change is that it will be easier to sign aging veterans who may think they are worth a little more than the absolute league minimum. All in the name of authenticity!

‘Derrick Rose Rule’ Added

We’ve added the “5th Year 30% Max Criteria” contract signing rule (you will know this as the ‘Derrick Rose Rule’), which allows a player finishing his rookie contract to make 30 percent of a team’s salary cap when he meets the appropriate criteria.

Has anyone read this? Tons of additions. More than what is quoted above.

I may not even need to mod anything except maybe cyberfaces. Even then i would just add a few and all the rest of the stuff like editing coaches, branding, rosters and rotations is done in game.

I can even import/ export draft classes while in the middle of a season.

Definitely a must-read for franchise gamers.

It's an interesting approach with MyLEAGUE Online, though I'm sure a lot of people will be disappointed that it's not simply an online version of the usual MyLEAGUE experience. A few of us who regularly play on the NLSC 2K Pro-Am team were thinking of doing something fun with MyLEAGUE Online this year, but from the sounds of it, it'll be too much work, and the feature we really needed for it (league expansion) isn't available online. It means I'll personally be sticking to MyLEAGUE offline, but hopefully other people will still enjoy what's on offer.

Once again, it's great that we have so many starting options, and a standalone Playoffs mode. Good stuff. Same goes for being able to use uniform updates without starting a new game. Nicely done.

It's great to hear that rule changes won't happen too often, so the league won't become too crazy or different. The ability to disable them or override them is a must though, so it's good to hear that that's in there. Sharing assets for re-branded and expansion teams will definitely save people a lot of time.

Pick protections, pick swaps on Draft day, and the ability to makes trades at any time during the offseason are all great. While the progression through the offseason in stages has been functional enough, it's always kind of bugged me that we can only re-sign players in one stage, sign other players in another, and then make trades in yet another. I'm also glad to hear that the rule about not being able to trade newly signed players until December 15th is in effect. It addresses a possible exploit - just as it does in real life - and is obviously realistic. Good news about improvements to the offseason trade logic.

Easier team switching will probably come in handy. Easier roster editing will definitely be appreciated. Importing Draft Classes midseason? That'll make a lot of people happy. Team Rivals, expanded record tracking, and everything else sound great. Overall, it sounds like a lot of great additions with those extra rules, and under-the-hood tweaks. I'd say those of us who were concerned about the mode and the fact that these things hadn't been mentioned can probably rest a little easier. We'll have to see how it all plays out, but a lot of work has clearly gone into the mode in vital areas. Awesome.

Once again, definitely worth a read if you're a franchise gamer. Some excellent news there. (Y)

This does sound pretty awesome.

I think it's definitive that it's time to get a new console, I'm quite excited to play this years game on the current gen instead of the older gen.

If you're on console you're not current gen. Only PC is current gen.

Very happy to hear playoffs mode is back. My best friend and I each pick 4 teams from each conference and go at it in playoff series. Is there any indication that the playoffs mode can be played online?

No word on that, so I wouldn't count on it at this juncture.

Very impressed. Thanks again 2K for making me feel good about my annual purchase.

The only thing I could ask for now are saves that transfer from year to year like MLB The Show.

I think you guys forgot the inportant quote though....

The people I am fortunate enough to work with on the MyGM/MyLEAGUE team are of a different ilk. Intense… is the word I would use to describe them. To Dave Z, Tim, Brad, Barry, Leftos, Yu, and Kefei, I salute you.

Staff editing?! Nice!!! That was something on my wish list. :D So happy that you can do it through roster editor outside of MyLEAGUE/MyGM modes too. Fuck, that alone is exciting for me.

Also excited about advanced rotations, jersey retirements, expanded all-time stats/records, and stat filtering.

Sounds like file sharing has improved too with team rebrands and draft classes.

I'm a liiiiittle bit disappointed that there's no mention of improvements to the simulation A.I., the generated prospect AI, and the player progression/regression AI.

To be more specific, i'd love to see the player progression/regression be more targeted/specific (i.e. athletic attributes reach a peak at about 23 yrs old, and then start to decline at 30, and decline REALLY sharply at 35, etc. Whereas shooting attributes might peak at 28 and start to decline at 34. And mental attributes may reach a peak at 30, and not ever decline? Want to see more factors get weighed into how a player develops or regresses. Their body type, height, playstyle, position, and the preferences of their coaches and training staff, injuries, etc)

Would also love to see generated prospects have more specific individuality/identity. A lot of the players have attributes/tendencies/badges that don't match up with their own identity. All the players' factors need to be synergistic with each other when getting generated. I'm sick of my suspension of disbelief getting ruined by generated players making absolutely no sense as a player. Especially for the stars / top 10 guys.

2K's basketball company is starting to reach a really high level of "realism" on simulation and franchise modes. I am not really into Fifa or any other sports game that includes franchise modes but I am quite sure (despite some up and downs, some possible additions other games have, etc.) 2K simulation is quite complex and one of the best out there.

I do really think 2K gives the 2 type of gamers what they want: you can play 2K just to have fun, to destroy your matchups, have an overpowered team in MyGM and a Michael Jordan Jr. in my career while at the same time gives simnation a lot complexity and realism in franchise modes they can enjoy: play as an underdog team is fun and realistic, all features in the real NBA teams association have depth in the game, ...

Only thing to fix is how you merge arcade and simnation players in online modes such as Park or Pro-Am, where all-around beasts will always have advantage over the simplayer who prefered to create an "under-the-radar" team-defense orientated MyCareer player.
