Player archetypes are a good move. I'm hoping that they'll also balance things out in 2K Pro-Am, with certain physical attributes affecting maximum abilities, and the capping that'll occur due to archetype.
The story...where to begin? I like the idea of bringing the story back to the court, but I'd also prefer to tell my own story. Reading about some of those characters, it still sounds like there's going to be a lot of off-court stuff to slog through as well. It does sound like we'll have some story branching to some extent, which is much better than a completely linear experience. I'm sceptical, but trying to remain optimistic. "Orange Juice" strikes me as being a little corny, but I'll wait and see the meaning behind it. It's better than being stuck with the nickname Frequency Vibrations. Being able to control Justice Young completely or partially is actually a pretty interesting idea.
The connections and off-day stuff were pretty good ideas in NBA 2K16, so it's nice to see them return. Getting a shoe deal and so forth early on seems more realistic as well, especially if you're supposed to be a big deal. I'm liking the sound of the approach to practice this year; getting to 99 Overall should be a grind, though hopefully at least getting to a respectable level won't take a ridiculous effort. It's always silly when you're meant to be a big deal, but your starting rating is in the 50s and 60s.
On one hand, having players stop by your MyCOURT is kind of cool, but I can also see it getting very annoying, if you just want to hang out there. I see why they're going for the connection, but there are times when I'd probably like to disconnect, and just shoot around by myself while everything about MyCAREER is essentially paused. Take it all at my own pace, if you will.
Something that I didn't see in that blog, much to my dismay, was improvements to the grading logic and AI. That hasn't really seen any improvements since NBA 2K14, and there are quite a few things in the grading logic that are very unfair, or flat out broken. The bells and whistles are nice, and it sounds like there will be some great features in this year's MyCAREER, but the grading logic directly affects your ability to earn VC (and thus improve your player), so it's pretty important. I hope that some tinkering has been done under the hood, but the fact it wasn't mentioned - even in passing - doesn't inspire a lot of confidence or optimism in that regard.
