Have the PC versions been gimped?

Wed Aug 31, 2016 4:37 pm

Hey, I've read from a guy on OS that claims the PC version is/has been gimped the past couple years missing features such as "Arena Music, Shoes, Presentation Elements, Animations, etc".

Is this true? Back when 2K15 was released I recall Leftos and even LD2k/Ronnie (on stream) claiming the PC version is identical to the console version.

Am I wrong, is the PC version truly gimped? Just looking for clarification if others agree/disagree with him.

Here was his post:
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/s ... tcount=174

And his response to my response:
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/s ... tcount=202

So like I said, is it true, or not?

Edit: Mods, if this is the wrong place to post, I apologize in advance.

It's not true. For 2K15 and 2K16, PC has been identical.

And 2K17 on PC will reportedly be missing only the face scan via smartphone feature, which is probably due to some deal with Intel (they added face scan via Intel webcam last year).

Also PC won't have demo.

Honestly i just picked up 2k16 on pc two days ago. I was not satisfied with ps4 version i had played so i did not buy pc until now.

That was a mistake. This game is better on PC in my opinion. Graphics, framerate, and mods trump online community of consoles for me. Also i played on park and was able to jump into games pretty quickly because park on pc wasn't overcrowded. Maybe my experience is skewed because i didn't deal with issues from the release due to 2k having patched everything.

Only thing was no one playing pro am which is easily solved by coming into forums and finding people to play with.

I missed a whole year of modding 2k16 because i played the ps4 version early on and wasn't impressed. But pc version of 2k17 will be good enough for me to purchase day 1 even if u cant get demo or face scan.

I agree with this statement. I tried the console version and the graphics, smoothness, transitions etc was not on the same level as PC. The cut scenes on the PC are so smooth, on console they don't seem to have a high frame rate. Also, of course the modding on PC makes it better.

Articles like that bother me... because they have an alternate agenda usually. Nothing was missing from PC version with the exception of the same face scanning technology.

Plus note if you buy a key you may get it early

2. where the bust places to buy it from. specially if must go download, that one trusted, and two the time to download isnt extreamly long.

1. Alright, It won't be a disk beacause CD's are ancient (according to 2K)

2. Try Cd-keys or G2A, those are legit places, so look for there.

Could you PM me on how to build a cheap PC that can run this on high?

Also note you can only download it from steam even if you purchase a key on another website. So you will need to sign up for a steam account. As that is where the legitimate digital versions of 2K are always released.

cd keys and especially g2a are gray market websites. In best case scenario you can get keys from different region (which is prohibited by Steam TOS by the way), in worst it could be keys paid for by stolen credit cards, which means those will be cancelled.

Can you pre-order the keys and the game itself from Steam?

I don't think so..., but you can for other nations

Should be able to pre-order from Steam directly.

When people say 2K made a deal with Intel does that mean PC DOES have face scan? Can someone point me to the Intel camera to buy?

Re: Have the PC versions been gimped?

They didn't say that they removed the feature from PC version, only PS4/X1, so it's fair to assume that they made a deal with Intel and they have to keep it there.

As far as the camera itself goes, most notable is probably Razer Stargazer, which is going to release in a month. It's pretty expensive though, so unless you want to stream with it (it does the "green screen" without an actual green screen), it's not something I'd invest into.

Son of a Bitch, 2K is trying to nickle and dime people in every way. :furious:

Question though, Can't you Play 2k17 on your ps4 or Xbox1 on the early release demo trial.

Scan your face with the mobile app and then use that same account or player on PC version of 2k17? Assuming 2k servers are keeping your data. :cussing:

That will not work. The app is for those with xbox and ps4 online accounts. PC uses steam account.

PC isn't getting nickle and dimed. You can't play prelude but all of that content is still in the full game.

No phone app for pc. So what, u can still face scan using the intel tech or you will likely be able to mod as you could with 2k16 if it is that important.

You can play The Prelude on PS4/X1 to get a feel for the game, you can also try out the phone scan feature with it.

The scan transfer is not going to be possible on 99% (leaving myself a backdoor here, but it's basically a sure thing given the circumstances).

I doubt anyone here owns a Console...

I do. IMpossible sounds like they do. Andrew definitely does.

Plenty of people in this community own a console. I'm not sure why that would be in doubt.

I do have a PS4, but i rather play on my PC.
That's why i was upset when i read that the mobile face scan feature was not compatible with NBA2K17 on the PC!
And i am NOT going to buy a freaking intel compatible camera device to scan my MUG, when my freaking phone can already DO THAT!
