The game's pretty good so far. I don't think it's worth anyone's time playing on any difficulty under All-Star.
+The game is very responsive and it feels like you have more control over your player.
+Love that you can tip back balls after a miss instead of just coming down with it.
+Shooting this year feels good. The success between button vs. stick is not that big of a deal in my opinion.
+Finishing around the basket with the meter makes getting to the hoop feel more rewarding.
+Presentation is really good and I'm a sucker for that. New commentary teams really keeps it fresh on that end.

Only negative-ish thing I've noticed is that when I press the sprint button, the person I'm controlling seems to be just at the same speed as he was without the button being held. Yet, his energy is being drained just as he was sprinting.

Sliders will not fix the high scoring.

I set sliders to 0 for all shooting. In 10 games, Warriors and Cavs, the teams scored an average 76 PPG.

They hit 0% from 3 and 0 jump shots. Their only offense was inside scores and free throws. That made the shooting percent under 20%.

Changing sliders to allow even 30% 3 pointers would increase that average score to 103 PPG. That's based on only 30 3PA That's below the number of 3's either team shot: Cle was at 36 3PA per game, while GS was at 32 3PA per game.

If tendencies are changed to avoid inside scoring, any human controlled team will crush the CPU team every time. The CPU team will keep taking shots they are guaranteed to miss, while any reasonable person will look for more drives, layups and dunks.

For the 2016 Finals, Cle vs GS, the teams averaged 100.14 PPG. So even with no jump shots made, NBA 2k17 has the teams scoring at just above real life level. Add the jump shots at even low %, and the scoring is even more inflated.

Damn I couldn't play 2k16 after playing 17. I've been playing some of myCareer and I also started a myGM (for the VC for my myplayer :P ) with the Magic.

- The gameplay feels so much less sticky. The game felt so slow in 2k16 and it's fixed here.
- The gameplay is fluid. I called a pick, then alley-ooped to Ibaka and wow! It felt a lot more natural than last year's iteration. I with I had the replay which brings me to another couple points.

- You can't save replays? Wtf? Am I just missing this??
- Replays are so much better now! You can rewind a lot. This also means "after-the-basket-cuts" and postgame highlights actually look like highlights and not 1.5 second close-up on a players jersey after a dunk.

- Gameplay still has a couple negative things from last year (eg, opponent big running right down the middle of the key and defenders not coming over to contest position) but overall feels a lot better.

- Chris Bosh had an injury during my game. This is another replay I wish I could've shown. He went lost the ball and dived to recover it but couldn't. I ran down the court on a fastbreak but what I initially missed was: Chris went down on the ball, tried to get up, fell down, hobbled back up on one foot again while calling the trainers then lost balance and fell down again. It was awesome! (Sorry Chris!)

- Playcalling/Substitutions are different and can't say whether or not I like them yet. Subs feel less cluttered on the screen when doing it on the fly though.

- Presentation is great as always (and can be skipped when not in MyCareer)! The only new thing I don't like is how the game shows substitutions. There's a little bit of a delay and you have to choose between looking at who got subbed out or what's actually going on in the game (normally free-throws).

- MyCareer... Christ it's awful in some ways and good in others.. You can't skip anything. Cmon 2K... If we wanted to listen to the story we would. That was something last year's game got right. It's hard to just play games. The drills and practices are fun for now but I don't know how redundant they'll feel later down the road. I haven't gotten too far into it, but this mode does well because the actual basketball gameplay is better.

Loving this game man. The more i play the more i notice how good the gameplay is. It's so fun and flowing and deep. 2k17 is all about the gameplay this year. Mike Wang and co can pat themselves on the back. Great work in that department

These body types are awful. I am baffled why they did not work on this? Takes away from a great game.

With the appropriate video card, does sweat still show up on the players like last year? Not a big deal, but it added to the realism.

Anyone else finds Lebron shooting form way off in nba 2k17?

Re: First impressions thread

Mon Sep 19, 2016 1:37 am

quite disapointed (i dont play MyCareer, only quick games & mygm/league)

Gameplay : more fluid, like the new moves & animations, ai seems clever, but game is too fast and default HoF sliders are awfull (and cheated for CPU)
Graphics : not as good as expected, better lightning, but game is not running as good as 2K16, and textures seem to be at lower resolution with broadcast cam,
UI & menus : horrible, wtf 2K tried ?! main menu is poor, tactical menu is fucking bad, timeout menu too

Yeah doesn't seem like how it's always been. Maybe it's because of other animations (like a follow thru)

just like last year there at least 5 minutes of delay every single game just waiting for these stupid animations and cutscenes in a SPORTS SIMULATION VIDEO GAME THIS IS NOT A TV BROADCAST

Well I got my first "hands on" tonight and I have to say I think the gameplay has really improved overall, it needs work on the sliders but straight away i feel like I have more control over the stick.

I think the "watching 2ktv" while the game loads is great when your playing a lot of quick games and the questions to earn VC.

Lighting is a lot better but I think they over did it with the crowds in some arenas.

Shooting is much more fun with the new shot meter and feels like nba live 16 which is good, speaking of Live 16 the first song that played when I started up 2k17 was one from the Live 16 play list....

The unique arena sounds do work and you can notices them at first glance as iam playing a few quick games.

Graphically I can't fault the game but I thought there would be updates from last year to players like Arron Baines who has the beard and mohawk but there seems to be a few faces that never got updated.

I kind of feel like iam playing nba live 06 on steds and I mean that in a good way, the gameplay became fun again and the lighting just reminds me of Live 06 I had with all the patches/mods

I swore to myself that I wouldn't buy this game. I didn't like the last two despite them having amazing graphics and some features I'd been wanting for years. Just didn't find them all that fun, despite the polish. (I did have some fun with a myGM that I simmed 98% of though) Still, I couldn't resist making my annual purchase.

So after eight or so hours... I love it!

What I've really been spending most of my time in is myCAREER. Despite the fact that my dude is a 63 overall scrub, I've been having a blast. The story is actually pretty good (didn't have to quit and restart as a black guy like in 2K16) and the gameplay is like crack. I'm playing 8 minute quarters, which is perfect because the scores run a bit high in this game and 12 minute quarters killed me in the past. Hannibal Buress cameo!

Expansion draft was kinda neat. Love how when I added Seattle and Vancouver to the league, Utah, OKC and New Orleans were sent to new divisions to keep things balanced. myLEAGUE itself seems pretty solid - same features as last time, but the interface got a face lift. Someone in this thread was complaining about the menus, but I think they're fine. I do wish player progression was handled the way Madden does it with players earning XP that could be spent on attributes, but oh well.

Gameplay seems pretty solid. Didn't play 2K16 seriously and haven't played more than a couple matches here to really evaluate it, but it seems fun. I like the new shot meter. Again the scores run a bit high but I'm cool with that at this point - will just stick to 8 minute quarters in myLEAGUE... I sim most games anyway.

There are a few tracks I had to turn off, but the soundtrack isn't bad. Never realized how much Young Thug needed to be censored on (I Know There's Gonna Be) Good Times.

Issues? Well the presentation is incredible as usual, but they keep trying to reinvent the wheel with the coaching interface and it's just a mess. Just bring back the menus from last-gen for subs and play calling - they're over-thinking it.

All in all I've stayed up way too late playing this game and need to go to bed, but it's good.

Wonder why 2K didn't put the correct coaches on their respective teams ? The one's that are missing, were all in 2K16. They have a generic looking coach for Sac, Mem, Indy, NYK and a few others. I guess we can leave it to Pandahero to add them to his rosters. He did a great job with that in 2K16. Also, no numbers on the back of the referees jerseys. Minor complaints, I know..... Otherwise, once I get use to the controls, this is the best 2K yet IMO, especially the game play.

I have to agree.

my personal +/- list
+best 2k game game-play wise ever
+fixed replays (finally! replays now show "and one" as it should
+lighting
+for the first time ever passing feels real/smooth/dynamic and same goes with shooting the basketball
+i actually love the body types this year although there might be some extreme versions that i've not come across yet (finally I see a noticeable difference between Durant and LBJ and so on..)

-LBJ shooting form is fucked;
-substitution menu is better than in 2k16 but still not very easy to navigate
-horrible timeout/tactical/coach menu (as some said -> they are overdoing it!)

Agreed. The last gen approach was more straightforward and intuitive.

The on court game bears little resemblance to the real look or feel of NBA basketball.

I just saw the current Dallas Mavericks beat the 93-94 Champion Rockets by 40 points.

Really?

Re: First impressions thread

Fri Sep 23, 2016 1:08 am

As someone who jumped from 2k14 to 2k17

Shooting is more punishing when you're not perfecting it, especially free throws. Dunno why I can make occasional 3 pointers with Udonis Haslem, yet guys like brandon jennings or trey burk cant even make open layups or close range shots
Play MyGM, My players just cant keep themselves from getting injured its fucking retarded. I replayed this mode like 5 times of fantasy draft, after 2 NBA weeks I ended up with like 9-10 active players starting with 15 players
AI is smarter, finally.
Game is much more fluid
No-clip animation during referee bump or the one underneath the basketball stand is ugly to see
Defense is much more responsive especially guarding those 3 point shooters
When im driving the ball with a defender beside me or bump the defender while sprinting, I keep getting offensive fouls when it was never called in former games. Dunno if it really deserve to be called.
When Im going to take a charge, i dont have face the ball handler to get a call.

"Well the presentation is incredible as usual, "

That naked emperor's new suit sure is nifty.

Go a year into a franchise, 5 years, 10 years. Hear the players talk about the same things in those pre-canned interviews. Play more than one game to hear the coaches pre-canned sideline talks having no relationship to what's happening on the court. The presentation not only isn't terrific, it detracts from the game and immersion into the feel of playing an NBA game.

Someone hits the first shot of the game, a three. The commentary "He's been hot all game".

Someone grabs a defensive rebound. Commentary: "ANOTHER offensive rebound/"

I'm a little bit annoyed with set plays this year. In general, off ball player movement seems slower and more sluggish than last year. Too much dead time where nothing happens and everybody just waits for a specific player to move an inch more to the left so everybody can keep going.

Way too many times I end up with a player on the perimeter closely guarded at the end of my set play. I don't know if the quality of the sets are down, or if the defense just recovers too quickly. I'm all for smarter defense, but then you have to give me offensive players that actually run their routes with determination and try to get open.

Another thing is the Smart Play option. I hate that basic isolations are now included in the Smart Play playbook. To me there is no reason to do that, since the Isolation play is directly next to the SP one. I can run an iso anytime I want, I select a smart play so the CPU can choose an actual set play for me to run.

It's not like it's smart, either. When on my very first possession in a game the smart play option gives me a Danilo Gallinari isolation against Kawhi Leonard, I'm questioning its intelligence.

Is it just me or does everyone also have this problem

Your own players celebrating like a retard after making a basket then enemy ai had the lane in the basket freed up for an easy wide open layup.

This clip illustrates my post well. Physicality is fine, but no determination of the offensive player to get to his spot is just tiring.

I play on ball D and iam finding that my center sometimes runs back down court on D but stops around the 3 point line while the cpu center goes straight to the basket for an easy pass.

After playing 2K17 over a week now, I've come to the conclusion that while it's a great game, there are a number of things that need to be addressed. The 3 pt shooting is insane.
The CPU comes down and repeatedly cranks up 3's on the break, without any inclination to drive to the hoop. You still can't defend shooters coming off screens, no matter how hard
you try to defend them, they'll make the shot 99.9% of the time. The help defense is broken, too many forays to the hoop by the CPU, with no weak side help . Especially the CPU throwing the ball up court, for a cherry pick basket after you've scored, with the defense no where in sight. This happens at least 2-4 times a game. The CPU always has the advantage when it comes to shot makes. Theirs are more likely to go in than yours. I can't count the number of times, I've had a shot or layup, pop out at the last minute, while the CPU's always seem to go in. These are just a few gripes I see, I'm sure there's more... Maybe a patch or sliders can correct some of them. I realize all games aren't perfect, but this game is damn close to being that, if they clean up some of these things.
