I never saw the point of pre-ordering games unless you were getting some sort of free bonus to do so.

I did play 2K16 because I got it for free, but I don't know if I'd be completely satisfied had I paid $60 for it. But then again, there's not a whole lot of games that can hold my attention nowadays. Ten years ago, I would've been all over it. For me that $60 without knowing if I'll like the game is a big gamble

I totally agree. In my opinion 60 bucks for a game is just not worth it at all. Even for the newest games after some time we have prices drops. 2k16 it was a good game but with a bunch of problems (espesially pc version) and after 2 moths it was steady enought to play it. I dont think to see big defernces this year from 2k17 to this part, like almost every game out there now.

I think its probably smart to gamble the pc version. You can buy a legit version for sub $30ish on a third party. Only problem is if you want to run the game, as you needs some decent software but most newer laptops could handle it medium-low at playable frames, plus you can get mods in case your game needs to be tailored to your need

I'll probably pre-order Legendary Gold edition (it costs 50$ in Russian Steam now and may be even cheaper prior the launch day) in the first half of September. I'll buy it anyway so why should I wait and reject pre-order bonuses?

For the sake of being a Kobe fan and probably this is the last game we get to see him on the cover, just pre-ordered the Legendary edition just because slots for the Gold one ran out

I noticed that this Tweet is drawing some frustrated responses, and understandably so. It's a month until release, and we still don't have a deep dive on gameplay or modes. It's been one lacklustre preview season.

I voted "No".

The last few launches (especially on PC) have ranged from pretty bad to absolutely horrendous.

Ever since the creation of VC we've seen game modes dumbed down or completely removed, their online stability has NEVER been reliable enough (ESPECIALLY around release day and at least a month or two thereafter), and they just don't add enough new content worthy of charging this series for $60 almost every year. Whenever celebs get involved in the process (Jay-Z a few years ago and Spike Lee last year) things really tend to go from bad to worse as it seems they work more on the hype train than the actual game. Yes, the graphics overhaul a couple of years ago was nice, I'll give them credit when they deserve it, but that and the hiring of @2KStauff to do roster work (I think he does a decent job, at least better than whomever he replaced) are the ONLY improvements they've made on this series at all lately (in my opinion).

This year in particular is looking pretty bad. A lot of hype and not much else so far. I don't know offhand what the record for latest actual gameplay footage is but with only a month and a half to go, they've got to be getting close to breaking it. A couple shots of Paul George and a buncha tweets about the various VC packages (screw VC) is not good hype for a game.

They don't have any real competition though so why would they do anything differently?

Meh, maybe I need to borrow Andrews "Bitter Old Hater" custom user title. I feel like I haven't played a really good basketball game on PC since 2K11, a football game since Madden 07, hockey since whenever the last EA one was on PC (2005?), and baseball I can't even remember (meh, at least OOTP is fun). I wholeheartedly blame EA for all of this for their rabid anti-PC stance but 2K could at least try and not make the same mistakes every year.

I don't play games enough anymore to warrant a nice gaming rig for a $30 savings on a game. growing up playing PC games I was always frustrated with not having the required specs or not good enough so I stick with consoles now so there's no headaches. Put it in and it just works.

Well its just modding too. I mean my friends are PC gamers because of the game and I started out and was cursed with the Wii. Every game wasn't built for my genre. I first got 2K12 3 years ago and I was horribly bad, and after starting 08 and 2K14 now that I know more about modding, I can play older games. I started creating them and having a community that has lots of knowledge helps me feel better about the game.

You could make a build for $500 that would crush ps4/xbone every day of the week. Plus it wouldn't be half bad for regular usage either.

I couldn't be any less hyped for the game. But i'm probably gonna preorder the game anyway because i'm an idiot, and 2k knows that.

I'm not very excited for the game but I'll end up getting it on day 1 regardless. I get so many hours out of 2k every year so no matter how much the game has changed it'll always be worth it.

I don't get the point of preordering though.

Warning: Rant coming. Skip to last sentence if you'd like.

I have not purchased 2K in a few years do to timing/ money priorities, lack of modding, and dissatisfaction with online only modes/ files.
I will likely purchase this game, but this is probably my last 2K if I do buy. I only play on PC and it seems games are passing me by with each year that I get older.
With a full time job, wife, a kid, and various real world responsibilities I don't find this "hype" season amusing at all.

I've stated in other threads that one of the main reasons I bout new pc machinery was to enjoy 2K. I can use the PC for other stuff but gaming was the main point for spending
over $900 on new PC hardware. Then when I played 2k16 on my nephews PS4 a few times, I knew I was not purchasing that game on PC. I just went back to 2k14 and with my
new hardware it runs amazingly, everything on max plus I could enjoy all my mods. Honestly I think I'd rather mod than play the game sometimes. Plus I did not want to be forced
to deal with waiting for patches or have patches forced upon me once I felt everything was perfect. I chose to just enjoy a game that was already complete rather than waiting 6
months through multiple patches for the game to finally be complete.

I just want to know what the hell is in the game this year, so that I may make an informed decision to purchase prior to the games release.
I do a lot of reading and work in global shipping industry. I see the trends with consumers and retail globally. There is a lot of economic disarray in the world lately.
I can see why 2K is really pushing pre-orders. NBA Live also made a smart move in my opinion to push back release date rather than get crushed by 2K. They can now release
and market on their own terms now and try to maximize sales. I get it, it's business first.

But a lot of people are going to end up spending $200 US or more on this game, over the span of this game's life cycle. I'm reffering to pre-ordering Kobe editions and buying VC over the
year to get upgrades, buy MyTeam cards, and other various stuff. I know the game will be a good game, but then again 2K14 on PC + mods is also a good game. I just need to know
this is a game that I will play more than 2K14 PC, that is what gets my pre-order. Otherwise I will wait for a sale because chances are I will still play this new game less than a game released 3 years
ago.

Summing it all up: Pre-release Hype level is 10 out 100 for me (so far anyway).
I was only excited for League expansion news.

The funny thing is there was actually a region lock for the in game servers until like Patch 5, so they are acknowledging that people are buying the CD Keys off these websites and know people hate having to use VPN's. Honestly that's the opposite of laziness but I know what you mean :P

No, definitely not. As a German I played with lots of Americans and Germans early on. The thing is, there is not even a Regionlocked Version. These Russian Keys just activated as normal RoW Keys, its not like 2K could even Regionlock me unless they just regionlock me from my IP. But that would be to reduce lag, if they only let me play against Europeans. But that doesn't work because the Playerbase is so fucking small. If you remove Americans and Chinese Players from Matchmaking its basically a Singleplayer Game.

On the gaming dragons website the price is 28eur. Thats around 31 USD. The only difference is you copy/write activation the code into steam account and voila.

Of course I mentioned earlier in this thread that I never bought 2k16 (or 2k15 for that matter) on pc.
So after Red MC iff license stopped working yesterday I went and bought a steam key for 2k16 on pc.
I downloaded it, and played a few hours this morning. This game is much better on PC then when I played it on PS4.
I did take my experience with a grain of salt because I did not go through much of the early launch bugs since I have the patches downloaded.

I get smooth 60 FPS and I can easily increase my that if I want. I don't experience much waiting for loading screens either.
Plus I get to mod whatever I want.

I know 2K17 is a sure purchase now... still unsure of pre-order. I see good prices for steam keys on a few sites tho.

Well if you tinker, you can solve these issues. Play Medium-High if you encounter issues at max. I hope my build can Max at 720p windowed. (Y)

I still haven't decided on the platform.
I'll definitely try out the Prelude to get some feel for the game.

But so far I'm leaning towards the PC version, even though we have no info about anti-cheat measures.

Also the physical version doesn't come out early here for some reason and I'm not going to pay extra 50% for having it a few days early. For reference, the game in CZK:

  • PS4/X1, Physical, Standard edition - 1799
  • PS4/X1, Physical, Legend edition - 2699
  • PS3/X360, Physical - 1299 (LOL)
  • PC, Physical, Standard edition - 999
  • PC, Digital, Standard edition - 1499
  • PC, Digital, Legend edition - 1999
