My take from the gameplay footage:
I'm still seeing a lot of the same annoying animations from last years game, including:
1. A player tries to push the ball up the floor with the initial pass to the wing, it goes over the targets head. This happens even though the target is wide open and only about 10-15 feet in front of the passer (Brandon Ingram play example is in the video)
2. Strange double teaming, even though the user didn't initiate the double team. Shabazz Muhammad (not on a hot streak, has he ever been?) gets doubled at the top of the key for no reason, leaving somebody wide open from 15 feet.
3. Players not helping/getting lost on defense. Yes, this happens in real life. But a couple times in the video Mozgov runs straight down the middle of the lane wide open, and KAT doesn't even make a move towards him until the user tries at the last minute to control KAT. This was a huge problem last year.
4. Body steals. Several times a pass was made to a player who caught the pass (above his head), and even with the defender standing in front of him, brought the ball down and the ball hit the defenders body, dropping the ball and creating a turnover. There were also a few times where players were bodied up (not even aggressively), and the player just dropped the ball. Body steals were an issue last year because they appeared to happen for no reason sometimes. Hopefully it's not as bad this year.
5. The up fake, get the guy in the air and the game FORCES you to take a shot and go to the line is still in the game it seems. This is frustrating, because you as the user should have control on whether you shoot the shot or drive by. In real life, sometimes if the defender jumps and lands on the player, he doesn't shoot. This should be a skill thing, not a forced thing.
Heres the good from the video:
1. The players speed SEEMS to be more realistic (with and without the ball).
2. The new halftime report stat sheet. Now it shows players of the half, and a cool new interface.
3. Presentation overall seems more realistic. Including the lighting.
4. I noticed some new floater animations, and some new passing animations. They looked nice.
Now, I also want to point out that these two guys playing are not really running ANYTHING. I would have liked to see them try and run sets, or some pick n rolls... but nope. They are adhering to the casual players with this gameplay video (which I believe Ronnie 2k and the other dude are), but they are talking it up like they are adhering to all.
Either way, I'm still excited for the game.
