Ask the Coach

Wed Sep 28, 2016 4:55 am

I mean "Be the Coach" Does this new feature actually work? I've tried to make changes, but hardly notice any difference in gameplay, after the adjustments.

I mean't to say " Be the Coach" The generic white guy when you call timeout. You press X, then make adjustments to your offense , defense and substitution patterns.

I guess there's always the possibility that it's broken or not as effective as it should be, but as in real life, adjustments don't always work and it's up to the players on the court to get the job done. A coach can say "do this", but it doesn't mean the players will, or do it effectively.

I love this franchise but year after year there's always something that's broken out of the box. I don't understand how this gets by QA. It's usually small stuff like this which people in QA should pick up.

Just because something isn't fixed doesn't mean QA didn't pick it up. As noted in many tales from The Trenches, QA often does submit these bug reports, but due to time constraints or the fact that something else is a higher priority, not everything that is reported is addressed pre-launch (or at all, in some cases).

That's assuming this feature is actually broken, of course. As I said, adjustments don't always work and turn the tide of every game, so its effectiveness should vary. I believe it's meant to be something that's potentially helpful, but certainly not guaranteed to succeed. Again, that's not to say that it isn't broken, but that wouldn't necessarily be my immediate conclusion.

Can someone explain to me why this white boy is the coach of every single team? What is 2k thinking? Why not use the real coach or give it a different face for the teams. Initially, I thought 2k messed up all the coaches on the team until I realized he was the same face for every team! Is there a way for us to turn it off?????

I agree.... He's the same assistant coach for every team. The only time you see the Head Coach is in the 4th qtr during a T.O, when he addresses the team.. Don't know what they were thinking in adding this, it doesn't really inject anything to the game.

In lieu of being able to include audio of a real assistant coach from each team, they probably figured a fictional generic assistant was the way to go. It's obviously being done for atmosphere, but of course your mileage may vary as to whether it enhances or detracts from said atmosphere.

Can we turn it off?

I'll have to double-check, but I'm not optimistic that we can.
