Any word on anti-cheating online software???

Thu Sep 08, 2016 5:31 am

I've logged 550 hrs of 2k16 on the PC. The one thing that infuriates me is when I lose to an unskilled 8ft tall behemoth that runs faster than my 6'3" maxed out legit (no hacks) PG. 40% of MyPark users for the PC version are hackers. The park is filled with yahoos in mascot outfits and Legend 5's on skateboards. I could not care less about that. I do care that people like me who know how to play the game and grind for months to get to 99 lose to these losers who don't miss a single 3 pointer and can block a wide open 3 from 30 ft away.

It utterly kills the experience for me. If 2k did nothing else to improve the game but to add anti-cheating software to 2k16, I'd gladly give them my money.

If 2k added a legit anticheat for the entire game cycle. The Parks on PC would be pretty empty I think.

Part of the fun with PC is hacks and mods. Some take it too far with the body hacks but its all a part of being on PC.

It doesn't bother me much.

Strongly disagree.

Parks are empty because of stupid region filters and because of these hacks. I don't mind mods or hacks only for art that otherwise would imply spending money or VC on it, but when it comes to unfair shortcuts for exploit purposes it ruins the game entirely. And it's not because it's part of being on PC, it's because 2K just doesn't care about policing the PC.

Cheating drives most people away from those modes, and the rest don't want complications with tricks to get into other servers. If I could choose which server to play and with the security of fair competitiveness it would be a different story, I bet.

Wait people were in the park? I'd rather play hackers rather than no one, what server or time are you playing at?

I don't play since release times but it's no fun playing hackers since losing downgrades reputation, anyway you have to applaud the perseverance.
You can't choose the server, I would assume that the servers with people are in the US , don't even know how many servers there are. If you're not in that region the only way is to friend someone who is and follow him into the park. I would rather have a ping meter but let me choose if I'm going to lag or not, after all, I'm not bothering anyone but myself.

There hasn't been any word on what's going to happen there (as far as I'm aware), but I hope for the sake of PC gamers who do like playing online in MyPARK and whatnot, it's cleaned up a little this year. I stand by what I wrote in this Monday Tip-Off article last year.

It's very hard to disagree with anything you wrote in that article Andrew. One thing is to cut a few corners and another one is to skip straight to the end, but the problem lies with how MyPark and MyCareer were designed. When you're expected to play 5-10 hours of MyCareer in order to be relevant in the park, unless you have a lot of free time you will look for shortcuts, but they don't have to cut so much. I see both sides and I wrote a few times that MyPark needs a separate avatar that develops according to MyPark performances and not tied to MyCareer.

I am not 100%'sure but I think the servers send you to the regional server. I live in NYC and a lot of the people I see in MyPark tell me they're from the general area. Some people though pay for some type of forwarding gaming server so they can pick and choose which server they want to go to. Hence guys from Europe, Canada, and even Brazil in my server. Also, if you friend just one person who is in a server that is full and he is online playing, you can select play with friend and it will send you to the park that he is in.

For my servers here in NYC btw, Sunset Park is always full. The other parks are always completely empty unless Steam just had a sale on 2k16 and noobs just joined and can't visit the other parks just yet.

As usual, Andrew is the man and the voice of reason on this topic. Agree 100% with everything he said in his article. Especially love the idea of relegating these cheating losers to their own private hell, a place where everyone cheats and thus NO ONE chests. I cannot think of a more fitting punishment than for thieves to be tormented by thievery. Or murderers to be in constant fear of being murdered.

Cheaters cast a pall on everything in the park. When I lose, is it because they legitimately beat me? Did that guy move unusually fast for his height and position? I've been called a cheater in game, even though I have not even bought a single VC out of principle (and cheapness). The best times in MyPark were the first few weeks before the hack engine was modded for 2k16. And the week after the first bans were passed out.

Frankly, I don't see the joy of "press button to win type of cheating. " All your accomplishments are worthless because every attribute is 99. Your batting record is garbage because you were doping. Ditto to Tour de France's. I guess to some young punks, they could not care less.

Glad you guys enjoyed the article! It bugs me when objections to cheating are characterised as "whining" and "crying", because they're legitimate complaints. It's also usually not the tone people are using when they express those objections; it's more "Come on, we're all trying to have fun here, and you're messing it up by not playing by the rules. Don't be that person, stop being a jerk."

That's the way it goes online, however. If you can't refute someone's opinion or objection with facts and rationale, just portray them as whiny and overly-sensitive. It's a shame how effective that technique is.

I believe this system (special servers for cheaters) is used by Rockstar in games like GTA V and Max Payne 3. Of course R* in GTA V (online) is criticized for banning players and fixing issues that are related only to their virtual currency that players can either grind or buy for real world money.

Same username as here, not playing 2K16 anymore though. And gamertag, username, it's all the same, why post just to be so against?

I've added a couple of you guys! I've been a lurker for awhile, but I'd like to find some people to play with in 2k17.

Leopold_Stotch. Though I think there are a significant amount of servers out there and unless you live near me on the NE USA, we won't be on the same server.

I wish someone in the know would shed some light on how the server allocations work.
