Hands-On Impressions (Uproxx)

How The Hyper-Realistic ‘NBA 2K17’ Showcases The Importance Of Your Stick Skills

The last few years of NBA 2K releases have seen a vast improvement in the storytelling feature of the game. On top of those developments, the graphics and the various packages and modes you can unlock off the court have combined to turn the yearly release into the most popular and immersive basketball video game of all time. It’s all anyone is talking about a couple months before the real season tips off, except this year’s release was a little different.

Rather than focus more energy on the peripheral nuance that goes into providing context and realistic narratives around the game, the 2K developers spent more time on how it feels to play a game of basketball with a standard XBOX or PlayStation controller. Lucky for us, we got a chance to try out NBA 2K17 during a demonstration of the game in New York last week with senior developer Rob Jones.

Not much in the way of new information, but hands-on impressions of how the new shooting mechanics feel. Worth a read if you're a bit iffy on some of those changes, though I'll still reserve final judgement for when I get my hands on the game.

Also...

Hyper-Realistic

Someone's been reading Creepypasta.

The realism was real

One would hope so.

This article lost me at the first sentence...

Hopefully with this being the first "hands on" more will follow with video breakdowns and raw gameplay footage.

"Stick skills" sounds like they're hyping Elite 11

It's more an odd choice of words than anything, since the article isn't talking about MyCAREER or the stories at all.

I see the same buzzwords I saw in the previous years. "Realistic" this "realistic" that. "In control". "Ton of new improved animations". "We've fixed problems". And yet we end up with the same broken mechanics every year with only a minuscule amount of fixes and improvements.

I don't believe any of it.

$5 says the best defense is still played with the legs.

Yeah, and I have heard a different version of this improved control/responsive animation scheme every year. I have yet to notice it in the game. Maybe they are trolling.

Having gone back and played NBA 2K12 over the weekend, I would have to say that there has been an improvement in both the control scheme, and control responsiveness, in the past few years. The same goes for the Shot Meter and shooting mechanics in general. That being said, you do have to take previews with a grain of salt, no question.

^ Exactly how much more of this crap are we going to have to put up with?!!!

Edit
Thanks for getting rid of that awful spam.

We're getting hit by spambots pretty hard at the moment, as they keep finding ways around the security measures. Please bear with us while we shore up those measures, and weed out spambots that have been dormant and suddenly starting posting.
