NBA 2K17 - New MyGM and MyLeague Features

So it looks like we're going to be able to make our own expansion teams this year. This is awesome, if Limnono makes another modifier that copies rosters then we can copy rosters with added teams. Think of the modding possibilities people. We can also see that they've added back Playoff Mode and added a much better looking interface too. I'm a bit tired of that old one they have been using the past two games.

I love the 2k Dev team. Screens look beautiful. Knocked off a ton of my wishlist requests (Playoff Mode, Sim to Now, Expansion mode, Download other's pre-made teams, different sized leagues). This is literally perfect as a huge MyLeague player on PS4, where I can't just mod anything that I want.

Awesome news all around, and a logical next step after the re-branding options were added to NBA 2K16. A standalone Playoffs mode is a very welcome addition, too. That one's a staple that both games have lost at various points over the years, and while it may not be as popular as MyCAREER or the fully-fledged franchise mode, it's still great to have the option to create your own custom postseason at any given time. So yeah, nice to see it back. Also note the returning option of starting a new game on the current date. Again, awesome news all around.

On a serious note, this looks simply awesome.

GUI: I'm a fan of this design. Pure, simple, elegant. The texts over images could use some tweaking though - maybe give it 1px black outline? Looking at the Kobe pic (MyGM), there is white text over yellow background (Kobe's jersey).
That said, I hope the menus will be more responsive and faster than 2K16's - it had those cover athletes animations which were cool at first, but got old rather quickly. Just going from play now to main options was quite... long.

Expansions: I kinda expected that to be honest, it was the next logical step after rebranding as mentioned already. However the sharing of custom teams took me by surprise. Kinda expected that to be in 2K18 perhaps? Definitely a very nice surprise.
36 teams (as a max) also seem to be a good fit - one new team per division.

Playoffs mode: I believe that's something almost everyone wanted to have back in the game. Completely customizable too, so I guess I could get a new attempt for Miami's threepeat in 5 minutes after starting the game for the first time.

Start today: This was also very requested feature, so definitely a good addition. I don't know how popular it will be, maybe gaining more popularity during the season?

I'm definitely down to buy 2K17, the only question now is the platform. If we'll get confirmation that PC version's getting some solid anti-cheat measures, I'll be getting PC version, otherwise PS4 it is probably (which would be shame as it runs much better on my PC).

I agree. Definitely nice, but I did grow a bit tired of them. I miss being able to disable menu transitions when I want to speed things up.

Counted at least 30 European teams in the Custom League screenshot. Not sure if they're full teams or just logos and kits from image rights they still have, and rosters filled with fakes or fantasy drafts, because some of these teams are not in either the Euroleague or the Eurocup.

I wish I could skip some in-game stuff too. I hate being forced to watch timeout animations or waiting for the camera to pan out for the umpteenth time

I completely agree (shameless plug of an article I wrote two months ago). I appreciate the detail and presentation values, but there are times when I want a streamlined experience. Waiting for referees to collect the ball in 2K Pro-Am is another example. It's realistic, but in video games, even ones that are aiming to be as sim as possible, there are acceptable breaks from reality.

I have been critical of 2K16 but this looks like a good start for 2k17 news.
I didn't buy 16, I played it but i just went back to modding 14 on pc. The additions to 2k17 are great because i could get a college roster. Going or just expand myleague.

Does anyone know if we can contract the league back to 30 teams after expanding the league?

I'm not getting hyped until i see core improvements to MyLEAGUE mode. Every year that bring these shiny new features that are really just surface level things, but MyLEAGUE mode is only as good as its depth & engine.

I actually hope they didn't put too much time into this. There are other more important fundamental things that require attention when it comes to MyGM and MyLEAGUE.

That said, the return of "Start Today" is cool.

Agreed. Every year there are new features, but the existing features and base game play aren't improved. The same thing has happened to me with 2K15 - 2K17. I played a bit. I played a season, got to the playoffs, and every game saw the superstars of opposing teams averaging 10-15 PPG, never taking over in crunch time, existing as non factors.

I still miss fucking PROTECTED PICKS! And I really hope they have improved the AI this Year. Its way too easy to trade Medicore Roleplayers for FirstRound Picks. If you had Protected Picks that would be so much more realistic.

When was the last time a Unprotected Pick was traded? That pretty much never happens unless you trade for a absolute Superstar.
