Hi, I'm new here and new to NBA 2K modding (but not to modding in general). I wanted to thank you for your tutorial, it inspired me to do some more digging myself into soundtrack customization. I was in fact able to not just import a custom song, but also to rename the song accordingly in the game and to import a customized album art/cover.
I will now write down a little tutorial, hoping some of you might be insterested in it. Before you start, make a backup of your 0B file in case anything goes wrong and make sure your Windows is set to always show file extensions, this will prevent problems and misunderstandings.
EDIT SONG NAME AND ARTIST IN THE GAMEWe're gonna do this through the
NBA2K16 Explorer (external plugin doesn't work for this).
1. Open NBA2K16 Explorer v0.40 and in Preferences tick just the 0B file.
2. Go to File and click on "Load Archives".
3. Search for file
music.json, right-click on it and click on "Export Archive".
4. You can now open the
music.json file with any text editor and edit its content. This is really simple and doesn't need any further explanation, you only need to edit the "Artist" and "Name" fields, leave the rest as it is.
5. When you're finished editing your
music.json file, save it, close the editor and rename it to
music.json.iff (otherwise you won't be able to import it back).
6. In NBA2K16 Explorer right-click on
music.json, click on "Import Archive", and select your newly edited
music.json.iff.
7. Go to File and click on "Apply Changes". Wait for the process to finish and then you can run the game and enjoy your new tracklist.
EDIT ALBUM ART/COVERThis can be done through the
NBA 2K16 External File Plugin, we only need
NBA2K16 Explorer once to extract the necessary files.
1. Open NBA2K16 Explorer v0.40 and in Preferences tick just the 0B file.
2. Go to File and click on "Load Archives".
3. Search for file
alb_cvr_cont_fcb780e2.iff, right-click on it and click on "Export Archive". Once exported you can close NBA2K16 Explorer.
4. Rename the
alb_cvr_cont_fcb780e2.iff to
alb_cvr_cont_fcb780e2.iff.zip, open it and extract the album art you want to replace, for example:
003_cultofpersonality.41a32d55c68001e7.dds.
5. We now need to create a 256x256 .dds file with our own album art. You can definitely do this in several ways, but I will cover here just one that immediately worked for me: (1) obtain your album art image and make sure it's a square (e.g. 600x600, 512x512 and so on), (2) download
FIFA File Explorer 2014 by jenkey1002, (3) open
003_cultofpersonality.41a32d55c68001e7.dds with it and click on "Import"; (4) scroll down to "JPEG (*.jpg)" in case your album art is .jpg and open your album art, (5) click on "Resize", (6) untick "DDS size...", (7) in Width or Height go down to 256 and (8) click OK and then (9) click "Save", you can now quit the program.
6. We're gonna import the edited .dds file back into the .zip now. WinRAR makes this real easy: just open
alb_cvr_cont_fcb780e2.iff.zip with WinRAR and drag-and-drop your edited
003_cultofpersonality.41a32d55c68001e7.dds into the .zip, and finally click OK on the window popping up.
7. Rename
alb_cvr_cont_fcb780e2.iff.zip to
alb_cvr_cont_fcb780e2.iff and move it to your "Modded" folder inside your NBA 2K16 folder.
8. Enjoy the album arts.
