The Letting Off Steam Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I've been sick every day of the last week. Tons of make-up work for school that I have to finish by Friday, because third quarter grades are finalized then. Not fun.

I also found out that I fucked up my video card while changing some settings so now I can't actually play any games on my computer until I fix it...

I stay out of the sun & protect myself yet just got a small part of back hacked up to get a malignant melanoma removed.

The message, get your skin & moles checked out annually, especially if you live in Australia or New Zealand, which bears the brunt of the ozone hole.

I'm hoping I don't catch the gastro thing my wife & daughter have. Throwing up that much could screw up my fresh stitches (N)

Sounds unpleasant but good that they caught it early. Definitely good advice too, hope you have a speedy recovery and avoid that bug.

Sounds nasty, X. Gotta get my skin checked soon. Is skin cancer more common in Australia? Hope you're doing well.

Caught the gastro bug. Very nasty, can't recall a worse one. Doesn't't help the healing either.

Yep, more common in Australia and New Zealand due to big ozone hole. We bear brunt of it.

I probably got the same strain. Nasty piece of work it was. Still not 100% but almost there. Now can get back to just healing up my back. Have bribed my bro some beer and bbq to do some yard work for me this coming weekend since I'm just not physically able to for another two weeks or so.

Jackal wrote:That's fucked up, I just heard a guy who I work with & lives down the road from me has leukemia. Just goes to show we worry about meaningless shit, the kid is only 17. :(

That's horrible to hear. It does all put it into perspective quickly. You realise that good health always > money.

Talking about f-ed up, check out this:

http://www.smh.com.au/national/road-car ... 1d8rn.html

3 teens (16 to 18) lost their lives needlessly. This happened at a local intersection that I go through at least once a day during week and that my wife and child go through twice a day during the week, so yeah, puts it all into perspective. Luck, fate, destiny, wrong place wrong time. Call it what you like, such is life.

Yeah, I'm not too bad. Yeah my back hurts/aches but was back to the grindstone of work today, so can't commiserate for too long. Too much work to do.

That is awful. I was planning on letting off some steam about my Internet connection which has been dodgy for the past couple of weeks and I'm still in the process of getting sorted out, but it doesn't seem right to fume about it after reading a story like that. Just terrible. :(

I do at times feel we could do with two of these threads. It does get hard to post about small inconveniences in here at times.

Speaking of which, my brother is refusing to let me watch Big Bang Theory, because Jersey Shore is on. Big Bang Theory is on once a week, Jersey Shore is on 16 times a week. But no, we couldn't possibly watch it at any other time, could we? He also watches Paris Hilton's My New BFF religiously. I can't quite fathom how I can possibly be related to him.

I was thinking about starting a second thread......but hearing about "real" issues put my stupid shit in perspective.....nothing worth any discussion that could come up

A general conversation thread wouldn't be a bad idea. I've previously considered renaming this thread but it's probably best if we go with a separate one like the day-to-day conversation/comments thread we have in the NBA section. Central threads can be problematic but they're also handy catch-alls for daily chit chat.

No need for a separate thread...
JaoSming wrote:I was thinking about starting a second thread......but hearing about "real" issues put my stupid shit in perspective.....nothing worth any discussion that could come up

...because of that.
Its good to see complaints put in perpective from time to time and not be carried away by such minor inconveniences.

That's assuming the new thread would be for minor gripes. I'm suggesting a separate thread for more general conversation, what you did today, plans for the weekend and other quick anecdotes.
