Yes, there are. The controller ports.

Xbox 360 controller ports yes, Xbox controller ports, no.

Lamrock wrote:Didn't know about that feature to be honest. Trying to do it now, but on FlashFXP, my connection keeps getting refused!

Do you have the password correct? And the ip?

Password's "xbox". When I use my Xbox's set IP (192.168.1.106), I get a refused connection. When I use the IP you can change in the settings (192.168.0.2), I get a timed out connection. I've also deactivated my computer's firewall.

Found this...
Okay... I had problems with this before. All you need to do is go into settings on your xbox then navigate to IP address then enter in 192.168.0.2 for IP then go to default gateway and enter 192.168.0.1 and make sure you have a static IP in the same menu. Make sure FTP is ON and password is 'xbox'. Go to the bottom of the menu and select 'save and exit'.

You can also try power cycling your modem/router and xbox.

Did not work. :( Thanks for posting though. No idea how to power cycle, but with the way everything has gone wrong so far, I'd be absolutely stunned if it worked.

How are you connected to the Xbox?

Here's that adapter btw, if it's worth $12 to get your files via flash drive.

I'm connected via a connector cable. I'll consider getting that adapter, though I'm weary blowing $12 when I'm not even sure the saves will be backwards compatible.

What kind of connector cable? Are you connected through a router? Directly to a PC with a crossover cable?

I have that adapter cable or something similar because I used it to soft-mod my Xbox. It's how you get the backdoor Splinter Cell save in. I think it was only like $7 with shipping back then. I paid less than $10 to soft-mod it including the game, cable and flash drive. (At the time you needed a small 32MB flash drive so the Xbox would think it's a memory card, don't know if things have advanced since then.) It does have very few uses outside of that or connecting an external hard drive though.

Directly connected to my laptop with a long ethernet cable. The Xbox recognizes its connection to the computer for what it's worth. Laptop has wireless internet.

Adapter cable would probably be a poor investment for me. I only use my Xbox maybe once a year.

Well, you could use it for XMBC it that was your thing, I did that for a while until I got a cheap ($35 but nice, has HDMI and 1080p output om nom nom nom) DVD player that can read off an USB drive. (For the remote mainly. I spent years watching crap using the Xbox.)

Anyway, just an ethernet cable might not be good enough. I don't know if I ever got a direct connection to work with a patch cable, I always had to use a crossover cable. Patch cable only ever seemed to work when I connected through my router.

Is your wireless produced by a router in your house you have access to? Can you connect the Xbox to it?

Crossover cable is the reason it won't work. I tried something like that a couple year ago connecting two pcs and it doesn't work without the crossover cable. The other alternative is to plug both up to your router.

lets talk school some more

the short version is I applied 2 months ago and have been in constant communication with my advisor/financial aid to make everything work. Classes start the 7th for me....I haven't heard anything from Financial Aid. I could get denied (a 2nd time) and left SOL with a bill I'll have to pay out of pocket or with private loans come Tuesday.

Called today and found out my paper work wasn't submitted until the 27th, last Friday. It was out of my hands the 2nd day after I applied 2 months ago.

My buddy going to the same school applied and was all set within 3 days. Classes, Financial Aid, all of it, all set. 3 days. He applied last Monday and was all set by Thursday.

something just ain't right about this.....

I have a noob question on HDMI/1080p stuff.

I have 1080p TV and HDMI Cable which I bought at $5 when on sale from local computer shop. Do all HDMI cables provide same high quality or does performance vary depends on quality of HDMI cable? Also what is the best way to take advantage of 1080p TV? I don't have a console nor blueray.

Hook your PC up to it?

No.

Thanks for the answer. I been looking at the sites that advertise how good their HDMI cabls. Made me think they actually perform differently.

I hooked up to my PC but failed to get sound out of TV. HDMI supposed to carry out both video and sound, but it seems my video card(ATI HD4870) doesn't seem to support to transfer the sound. As my TV is in the living room and computer in the den, I just couldn't make it work.

Get a cheap Acer like I did, the X3200 is around 300 euro's and comes with HDMI for video & digital for audio.

I should have. Instead I ended up buying computers from the Radicals who were downsizing greatly. So now I own 2 decent gaming computers + netbook. I'd love to go for a small sized HTPC next time.

The Acer would've been perfect for that. It's slim designed & they look pretty sleek next to the surround sound equipment.

I had the Acer Revo for a while too (still do, just not in use)...but that one didn't have the power to display big sized mkv's.

You were out-muscled Jao.
Or the advisor wants something from you.

Your videocard does support the sound through hdmi, ZanShadow. It's called ATI function for high definition audio.

Rather than your regular steam that this thread is intended for, I'm going to go with a broader, less in-depth statement: I am a very unhappy person
and my life is going nowhere fast.

But at least I'm not posting this in the Milestone Thread!

P.S. 6423rd post!

At 17, you shouldn't stress over that. I'm sure you'll change your mind plenty of times before you pick the path you want to be on. Chin up. (Y)

Dude, Lamrock, I sometimes feel that way too, I just don't let it get me down. We're the same age (just about), we've got a lot of life to live, so there's time to get somewhere in life.

Back to college life next week. How awesome this is, going back to school to actually study now. Fuck...

Re: The Letting Off Steam Thread

Sat Sep 04, 2010 12:42 pm

found out my financial aid said my human expression class (philosophy) wasn't required which is why I was being held up. All of my other required classes are filled up.

withdrawn, try again in the spring....

This sig is apparently too big for some people on another forum (which had, when I set it up, no max sig size), so a mod PMed me and asked that I cut it down to a third of its current size. I did so. They then introduced a max sig height of 120px. Larger than my new sig, so I resized it again, up to the maximum height but still in compliance with the rules.

Forgetting to check this, the mod in question has banned me for 'blatantly defying staff instructions' simply because it's now bigger than it used to be. What the fuck?

Re: The Letting Off Steam Thread

Sun Sep 05, 2010 3:40 pm

Yeah, that's uncool. I guess you could've messaged that moderator, mentioned the new sig limits and asked whether it was fine (which should give them all the incentive they need to be reasonable about it) but still, bad form.

Re: The Letting Off Steam Thread

Sun Sep 05, 2010 4:18 pm

Turns out he got the sig size wrong when writing the rules, then somehow ended up under the impression that my sig was three times its actual size. He's since corrected both errors, and I'm back in, with my now much smaller signature to conform to the new rules (and my website, too, nicely). All's well that ends well, I guess.
