jao, I wish it were that easy with work, uni, and keeping up a social life as well as keeping active. (N) if only I had a time machine. :)

I wish that was an april fool's thingy, but I was charged some fraudulent charges through Paypal from a MMO website that I've never even visited. I don't even play online. I've contacted the website, Paypal and my bank about it, but now that makes me wonder how that fuck that could happen in the first place... :?

That sucks, not too much I hope. I suppose in a situation like that any amount is too much but you know what I mean.

It was not much, but enough to make my rent check bounce if I didn't do anything about it.
The website that charged me has issued a refund, but they said that it could not just be a mistake, someone actually had to use my Paypal account, which really sucks. Not that I have too much dough to begin with, but that's still pretty scary.
As soon as the refund takes effect, I'll just try to cancel my Paypal account altogether. I changed my password a couple of times yesterday, but I'm not sure that would do much...

That definitely compounds the significance of the error when it can effect you like that, glad to hear they're giving you a refund. Did you end up giving PayPal an earful? I mean, that's supposed to be the main benefit of PayPal, security.

I did contact them, they're the ones who took the longest time to respond (compared to the website that charged me and my bank, which I also contacted right away). I just received an email from Paypal that explains what's going on right now, it's showing that the two transactions are being refunded, but the refunds are on hold right now because they need to hear from my bank first, or something like that. As usual, 4 to 5 business days... :?
It is definitely a letdown, I never had any issue with Paypal before, it's pretty damn convenient, but I don't really want to keep an account in these conditions.

Understandable. Have they apologised at all or are they still putting it back on you/trying to pass the buck?

Re: The Letting Off Steam Thread

They did apologize, but of course they did not mention anything about how this could have happened in the first place...

They probably don't know themselves, a bit of a red faced moment for them no doubt.

I've had 3 consecutive days with headaches, I tried every possible way to shook it off and it doesn't seem to get better. It prevents me from doing work, exercises, etc. Luckily I feel a little bit better today, hopefully it'll cure soon, if not grrgghhh...

Sounds pretty awful, hope you get better soon.

Fucking Paypal is at it again...Now I'm getting a notification that I tried to transfer some funds from my Paypal account to my bank account, except since the balance is 0, it's showing as a negative amount and they tell me I owe them the money!
Apparently, it was once again requested by that website that committed the fraud a few days ago (nexon.net, or something like that). So even though I changed my password several times and notified Paypal right away, that kind of crap can still happen. I just asked them to resolve the issue asap and cancel my account right away, I don't want to have anything to do with Paypal anymore. :seriouscat:

I would also suggest that you request a new account number from your bank.

Re: The Letting Off Steam Thread

Fri Apr 10, 2009 4:50 am

I didn't want to resort to that, but I guess I might have to...
It's not huge amounts each time, but it's just scary to think that your confidential information can be used just like that.

That's a pretty poor showing by PayPal. Mistakes do happen and they can repeat themselves but for a service that advertises itself as a secure alternative to other methods of money transfers it's not good enough.

My bank is taking care of it but Paypal finally replied with something even dumber. They're saying that one of the first two transactions that were fraudulent in the first place was not properly refunded on my account, that my bank declined it or something like that, which is bullshit since it did make its way as a credit on my bank account. They're basically blaming my bank for something they couldn't do correctly.
Never again Paypal, sayonara.

No doubt. A simple "We fucked up" would've been appropriate.

I finnally get the needed video card for the damn 2k9, and now it starts freeezing every time I start it, in minutes, before I can even play :x

Make sure it's seated properly in the videocard slot and that you plugged the power cable into the card and then update your video card drivers.

I happen to be easily annoyed.

only one you should worry about pleasing in this life is yourself.

Re: The Letting Off Steam Thread

well screw the sig shenanigans I got some steam to let off

First off, I got a bill a couple weeks ago from the electric company for 1200 bucks, all at once, even tho we were billed for the previous 4 months at this place. Since we got it all now, we had no way of telling how much juice we were using throughout the winter so we didn't know our heat here sucks at conserving energy or that 100 bucks a month didnt equal a full bill, even tho the old place it did.

So while that is being paid off through a payment plan, on top of monthly usage, I got to work 52 hours plus a saturday last week, along with 4 OT hours this week for this clusterfuck of a project that is being protested by hippies. (fyi, they are protesting us invading and cleaning up a wetland because it has oil in it from the current mining operation) So today, with all but 1 manger gone on vacation, I got to submit the project to the town and figure I got the rest of the day off since I got 4 hours of OT I could burn off. Well nuts to that this remaining manager said, I got a nice day outside, and I was stuck inside figuring out why surveys from the fecking 40s dont match the 80s versions. (hint, cocaine is a hell of a drug)

Bout an hour into this wonderful afternoon, I find out that our old apartment had a fire today. Cliffnotes on the old apartment, we found this place, moved, sublet to friends (lesbians), and had a huge hassle this whether or not I had to pay and be on the lease for April even though the lease ended on March 31st, 2009. One of them left the oven on self clean and left for a few hours. They had so much stuff in there, all 3 rooms got toasted. Thankfully no one got hurt and the cats got out ok.

So on top of that, one of the girls who I and Kathryn work(ed)(s) with gave her two weeks notice after she told her boss that the place burned down. (reminder, when you live with a girl, her problems are your problems) And yesterday, one of the other workers was fired. He moved to Alabama 3 weeks ago, came back last week cause he hated it, got his old job back, and then corporate found out he was "returning" games for friends for store credit without actually taking any games. So they are now 2 workers down and Kathryn has finals these coming weeks along with finding an internship and the increased work hours.

So, who wants to play some fucking halo or rock band?
