The Letting Off Steam Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

In fact, here is an analogy for Jao:

Uni's a bitch. Two 100% weighted exams on the same day. If Ty-Land is reading this... how do you study for exams man?

you have to hedge your bets....put more time into the subject that you're less confident of doing well in....better to pass both than ace one but fail other....

Exactly the mistake that I made last year, two exams in two days, resulting in an A and a D...... shouldnt have really got the D either, just one of those crappy 30 mark questions in it that has some random quote then "Discuss" pitty I had no idea what the quote meant...

I'm aiming for 6s in both. I should have done those optional papers now that I think about it but plenty of people decided to bite the bullet and go for the '100% option'... more pressure. :)

They're both essay/short answer exams so shouldn't be that bad. My main problem is writing in the correct 'prose'... need to sound more sophisticated. That and remembering case law and where to find what in legislation.

with short essay questions, just remember this:

Introduction stating what you are going to discuss to prove your hypothesis

Paragraph 1: Point, illustration, example
Paragraph 2: Point, illustration, example
Paragraph 3: Point, illustration, example

Conclusion stating what you've more or less said

Obviously you might need to alter the format slightly to what you're asked for, but I find this format works well (Y)

At least you have a predetermined structure. :P Our lecturers don't even say how we should structure our essays because they say everyone writes differently. I shake my fist at them.

To use my example.

MJ is the greatest player ever because he had a gambling problem, he cheated on his wife & sometimes punched his teammates.

MJ's gambling problem helped establish himself as the greatest player ever because of his well-documented gambling problem. This gambling problem allowed him to get insight into how the NBA and referees call games. An example of gambling helping an athlete etc etc

Blah de blah

Obviously that's not really legal style, but you just make your statement/point, illustrate/explain it (possibly using legislation) & use caselaw as your example. The formula has never failed me

Good luck with exams though....it's never easy, but keep your cool & most importantly answer what they are asking, not what you think they might be asking, meaning read the questions carefully & answer each part, not just the first part....

Anyways, enough is enough. It's coming up to 3am, I've been working all night, just submitted my big assignment for my CA unit so I need my 3 hours sleep before I get up & go to work. Ahh well, I did well to submit it 3 days early. I think my previous best was 3 hours early :) At least I get to sleep in this weekend & have some drinks :P

back from a 3 day vegas trip. lost a few sports bets. Roy jones lost his fight to calzaghe and the Bulls beat the Suns when they decided to rest Shaq. :-x
made some of it back when the Titans beat the Bears today.
got raped in craps but blackjack was good to me. Played casino baccarat for the first time and lost quite a bit in roulette as well.

People who quit when they're losing an online game really turn you off the experience. Yes, it sucks if you're losing but the decent thing to do is play it out, especially if the game's just about over anyway.

My thoughts exactly, though my current irritation - a busted DVD/VCR combo - is easily replaced and small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Unfortunately I've missed the cut on that one, it'll have to be a present for myself.

Since I've lived in Seattle (10 years), it has never snowed more than 3 inches, but now, out of the blue, a huge snowstorm comes and there is over a foot of snow on the ground. It sucks being on break and not being able to leave the house.

Also women. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em, amirite?!
