Not a steam though, just a mind-boggling-puzzling-puzzle.

I had my first day as college instructor at the same school where I graduated from, I have this class, with one student that stands among the rest. He's blind.

Now I'll be teaching Visual Basic to the class and I'm thinking of ways on how to make the kid follow the lesson. He's always being accompanied by his mom.

He's blind Lean not deaf. Just speak out loud. Maybe he has good memorization.

As to how he can check his work if its correct, I don't know. I'm also assuming he knows the position of each individual keys in the keyboard so he knows how to enter the proper syntax.

You have your work cut out for you.

Another fucking parking ticket... and they no longer accept appeals from me because "they have too much trouble with me". Gave me another ticket like just 10 minutes after my overnight parking permit ended effectiveness. Was arguing with the obese troll and seriously wanted to run the fat bitch over with the car.

Well, I failed the tenth grade. This is great. The best part is, the only subject I failed was Math but apparently they can make you fail because of "excessive absence from school".

No wait, the best part is I actually busted my ass getting good grades for the past five months. Fuck.

Wed Jun 18, 2008 2:45 pm

Why did you miss so much school?

Wed Jun 18, 2008 4:35 pm

His title should answer that question.

Wed Jun 18, 2008 5:27 pm

Classic. Yeah Joe attendance is kind of important, unless you're in college and taking like Bio I or some shit. Class participation is being almost just as important to grades as exams are.

mmm, Waldo :D

Wed Jun 18, 2008 10:36 pm

I know attendance is important, especially in high school but I didn't think they would fail me just because of that. Holy shit, they just can't take one year of my life like that.

Plus, they didn't fail this dude in my class who got suspended twice this year, not to mention he said to the Italian teacher "son of a bitch I hope you die".

I couldn't care less earlier this year, I ditched a lot. Then in January I got some sort of pneumonia and I had to stay home for more than two weeks.

Thu Jun 19, 2008 12:15 am

Can't you make it up in summer school?

Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:41 am

Theoretically, yes. Practically, no.

See, here in Italy if you fail up to three subjects in school you can make it up by going to summer school and then by taking one exam per subject in September. More than three subjects and you have to repeat the school year.

Problem is, there are exceptions. For example, even if you only failed one subject but you have a 3/10 average (scale-10 grading system; equivalent to an F in the US), you'll have to repeat the year. Same if you fail two subjects with a 4/10 average.

I only failed Math with a 4/10 average (43%; F average in the US) but they're making me repeat the school year because of, as I said before, excessive absence from school, which is completely insane, but there's nothing I can do anyway so, meh...

Can you get your parents and yourself to talk to the principal or whomever is in charge to discuss it and maybe work it out? Attendance is important because it wouldn't be fair to students who have to attend every class of the year. It's like a participation grade, or another analogy is people getting fired if they miss a couple days of work every week instead of being there every work day.

Thu Jun 19, 2008 4:55 am

My parents already talked to the principal (since they didn't expect this) as well as most of the teachers. They said what's done's done.

Plus they're all busy with summer school and those who aren't are already on vacation, so yeah, that's pretty much it.

Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:36 am

Can you tlak to the district superintendent, or anyone else that is has a higher administrative position? Don't let them take away a year of your life over one bad grade and a bunch of absences. Don't let them tell you "There is nothing that can be done." Complain alot, get your parents to give the school shit, and you should be able to make it up in the summer, atleast. My parents have gotten my more troubled sibling out of suspensions before by giving them hell.

Thu Jun 19, 2008 9:17 am

It's different here in Italy, they don't give a shit. Repeating school years here is so normal teachers/principals treat everybody the same.

Plus, since the school system has a socialist base (and it hasn't been changed one bit since its introduction in the early 50's), everybody gets treated in the same crappy way. They don't care about personal situations. There is virtually no way to "work it out".

Even the superintendent doesn't give a shit. My parents went in to talk today and they said they told them the only thing I could do was sue the school, and it would take so much just for the case to go through that it's not worth it.

My sister had to repeat her junior year because of the same thing. Actually her situation was worse, because she didn't even fail one subject, but since she didn't take the last tests, most teachers decided to give her a 0/10 grade, thus making most of her grades fall. All this just so they could fail her.
