Re: The Official South Park Thread

ok...this is what is known as a "classic" south park episode. It worked on multiple levels, had social satire and pop culture used somewhat with subtlety, Loved it.

"You have to wade through the dicks to have good friends"

and the whole stan/wendy thing was great too.

Best of the season for me.

The episode was alright and still funny (I loved the references to chatroulette..."Dude jacking off", "Whoops, dude" "KYLE YOU GOTTA GO THROUGH THE DICKS TO FIND FRIENDS")

It wasn't as funny as last week's, but it was still funny. They've done a good job with S14 so far

Not so classic in my opinion. They're at least two years late on the Facebook slam - accurate as it may be - which is approaching Family Guy levels of being late to the party. I did love "If you want to find some quality friends you have to wade through some dicks first", an absolutely fantastic line and it had its moments but again, I thought the episode as a whole was mediocre. The show just feels a bit tired for me.

Totally agree. I didn't laugh as much as last week's, but I thought this one was better written, it had several layers to it and really worked as a whole, even if it could have been done 1 or 2 years ago as Andrew mentioned. To me, it's not so much being on top of the latest trends in a timely manner that matters so much with this show, but how they use them as a base for their own plot, always mixing absurdity and subtlety. I really like this season so far.

I guess so. I suppose with the way South Park produces episodes, I'm used to them being a bit more current than shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy can be and they handle social/pop culture commentary and satire much better than Family Guy ever could, but like I said some of the stuff they've been doing so far this season they seem late to the party on or making jokes that have been made scores of times before (like the Sarah Jessica Parker stuff). As a result I'm not really feeling this season as yet but hopefully my opinion will soon change.

I really dont think they're that late on the facebook slam though. Maybe a year. The real slam was the people being this obssessive about it and that seems to be relatively new.

I don't know about that, I think people have been obsessive about Facebook for at least a couple of years now. I guess FarmVille is the latest trend so that's fairly recent.

Not a bad episode, surprised they decided to throw the Tron thing in there as well.

I believe there's a new Tron movie coming out soon, so that's probably why.

Tron you say?

I don't think there was any animosity between the two, even though the two did reference each other a few times. Simpsons - That OJ South Park Video game or episode, South Park - "Simpsons Did It" and the Family Guy episode. "Cowabunga"

 Oh my fucking god

Sure its indulgent, self referential and silly but damn that was funny

Only one smiley convey similar epicness of this weeks episode for me (being an avid fan having seen every ep):
:epicbeardman:

Am officially counting down days till next weeks episode

Yesterday's episode was the best episode in a while. Love seeing all the old characters back again.

Even funnier would be if they promoted a sequel and like the Terrence and Phillip movie episode postponed it another week

I probably didn't enjoy it quite as much you guys did, but I liked it a lot better than the last couple of episodes. The references to all the old episodes were pretty enjoyable, the celebrity stuff is pretty clever and it looks like the conclusion will be pretty good.

That'd be a pretty good gag, though they've already pulled a fakeout in reference to that before and after that episode was so poorly received I'd be surprised if they ever went that way again. There's probably a good chance they'll at least reference it again with another fakeout though.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was no Part 2. Kind of like the Mysterio episode.

Matt and Trey weigh in on 200th episode

Perhaps, but that still had a resolution of sorts; we just didn't find out who Mysterion was. This one seemed to leave things hanging for a Part Two, even if there was no To Be Continued.

Re: The Official South Park Thread

Fri Apr 16, 2010 4:17 am

yeah at the end of the mysterion/coon episode there was a resolution. this had none. They're not gonna leave it untold. Almost a guaranteed conclusion in the next couple of weeks i bet.

I just think that unlike family guy, this self referencing/celeb potshotting (despite the Burton shot: although the truth hurts sometimes) was actually rather funny. The creators acknowledging from the get go they were repeating jokes this episode and just going all out with it.

I don't about this one, didn't enjoy it as much as you guys I guess. Even if it made sense to have so many celeb potshots for a 200th episode, I thought some of them were really cheap and not as hilarious as usual. Actually, I think I was mostly annoyed by the story itself, because they usually come up with better than that. It'll still be interesting to see if there is an actual conclusion to it though.

Re: The Official South Park Thread

I'd agree that it wasn't their best material, the Jimmy Buffet swipe bummed me out like it did the first time they went after him and the Tim Burton swipe was anything but subtle and frankly Family Guy-esque, but on the whole I liked the episode well enough (and more than I did the last few).

It's implied from South Park official website that they will continue the series. Guess there will be no Terrence and Phillip trick

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/04/19/se ... rk/?hpt=T2

On Sunday, Revolutionmuslim.com posted an entry that included a warning to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that they risk violent retribution – after the 200th episode last week included a satirical discussion about whether an image of the prophet could be shown. In the end, he is portrayed disguised in a bear suit.

Figured as much. At most it'll probably be referenced with a quick joke at the start of Part 2, before the episode continues on as normal.
