don't know if economics is the motivation for Russia (One of the G8 countries after all! I'll ignore they just whined until they got in...) to re-establish its influence in the region. I think it could be a side benefit of that re-establishment of influence. (Not that Russia has ever loved Israel or Jews, let alone the West.)

u right about economics, and it is on the rise now with president Putin V.V. (the best president of Russia ever), but what about Jews - there are thousands of jews in Russia, and the only man, that didn't love them was Stalin.
we have a lot of very powerfull and mighty jews with politic power, and multimillionaires - Roman Abramovich (chelsea owner, SibNeft owner (one of the biggest oil corporation, gouvernor of the Chukotka, 42 age)), Khadarkhovsky (GazProm), Djirinovsky (leader of the LDPR political party) and many - many others!

You're shocked? I'm the one that's shocked that Russia still hides history as it happened and keeps fooling its own people.

u know, i hate communism, and 90% of the russians too, and the government policy about "hiding" facts from the community is in the past! and now all things clean enought. but our discussion is useless cuz i know real facts about my native country, and u know facts that have been whrighte in your's books! thats all, no more talks bout that! every one of us has he's oun truth!

And you explained that in your posts? All I really got is that Russian kids are taught Russia is and has always been a great country, and that the Communists are at fault for everything bad that's happened to it.

I'm sorry, I might agree on the fact that Russia could turn out to be a great country someday and that the Soviet Union harmed the Russian people, but I disagree on this.

Also, great countries aren't determined by its people's feelings, especially if those feelings include extreme nationalism.

yeah it always haven't been easy to live in Russia, but as Putin comes (already 8 years, in february 2008 gonna be a new president) pople begin to leave much better. i mean a LOT better. i won't wasting my time to tell u things, that have been spoken before, and u doen't understand it, u understand only facts, that's all! it's easier to make monkey smoke, that make u understand the truth about our country, but i think, u don't need it at all, so i'm outa this mess, not gonna post so huge posts!

Russian soldiers fight agains Hitler and set Estonia free of the fashists, and all the thanks they get is a government disigion that Russian soldier memorial must be removed from it's place in the center of Tallin to some garbage place, and almost all the Estonian people say that they would'n mind to stay with fashists. that dorks couldn't even emagine what would happen if they'd stay with fashists. our grandparents were killed for the freedon and for the world without crazy ass Hitler, and Estonia thinks otherwise?!... no words

Not that it's any of your business but no, I'm not from Estonia: I'm from Italy. I was born in Argentina, though.

The USSR has influenced both these countries in a very negative way, particularly Argentina, and that's why I know its history.

Anyway, the USSR didn't free Estonia from the Nazis, the Red Army would've left Estonian soil (as well as that of most other Eastern European nations) after the end of the war if that were the case.

The USSR defeated the Nazis in Estonia but for its own interest, not for that of the Estonian people, and they proved to be no better than the Nazis by ordering to form a new Communist government (read: dictatorship) (which changed more or less nothing from the period when the Nazis ruled the country, except the idealism) which had no benefits for Estonia since all economic resources were controlled by the USSR and 80% of what was produced by the country was taken by the Soviets.

That's because when talking about history and politics, nothing else matters, not opinions, not point of views, nothing. If something went a certain way and there is proof, it doesn't matter someone else comes up with another theory or a different point of view without even proving it (which is what you've been doing the last two pages of this thread and what your country has done for over seventy years, and might still be doing).
