People believe what they believe right or wrong. It doesn't affect you, why do you care?
Changing someones belief system, especially one that has been ingrained throughout their life is extremely difficult and will not result from any thread on the internet. It requires either a major scale event (such as what drives people to become "born-again" after hitting rock bottom or how some people changed politically after 9/11, etc.) or long term gradual disaffection with the belief. And throwing ad hominems at people is the least effective means of changing beliefs, and only serves to entrench them, especially if there is already a persecution complex.
Not to mention segementation into descriptive groups, and then the waging of war on alternative groups, being caustic to the body politic.
You do have to admit that it's bringing at least a slight amount of lulz though.

I do believe every human has a soul, and i'm starting to get right into spirituality and such. But as for the concept of god, well, i don't know. Nor do i think it really matters. I don't know whether there is a god or not (i've always leaned towards not), but whether there is or not, the concept of organized religion is stupid and outdated.
Everybody should be encouraged to think for themselves, learn their own lessons, directly experience things for themselves, develop themselves personally, learn about their own soul, and learn about what it means TO BE HUMAN and our true nature. Organized religion depresses this.
People get so wrapped up in their own emotions, thoughts, fears & beliefs that they completely prevent what's important. The bigger picture. We should all be learning about what's in outer space together (but instead half of the world are all fighting about religion). We should be working towards evolving our minds and developing a higher consciousness together. So that we can evolve as a human race. But people are too self-obsorbed to care. And that sucks. If that applies to you, then fuck you. You suck. You're not living properly and you're stagnating human development. Start learning how to learn. Detach from yourself. That includes both god believers and non-believers (it doesn't matter your belief, we're all human).
Human creativity, really, is what really matters to our existence. Our imagination is our most powerful tool. Use it. Ideas are what helps us move forward. Maybe if we all considered that as "god", then the world would be a better place?

Same here, I agree with that.

yeah, but living yourself is much harder than doing what others are doing. that's why I said that religion is for weak people.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:07 pm
But you said god, not religion.
Joe the Space Marine wrote:people who need a god are weak. nothing more to it.
Believing in a God doesn't automatically mean you have a religion, nor does having a religion mean you have a god.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:10 pm
you can have a religion without a god and a god without a religion?
huh?
Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:15 pm
Buddhism doesn't have a god but rather in the belief of a "greater" truth or awakening.
Buddha is not their god.
I can believe in a God but not observe any system of organized rituals (God without a religion).
Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:19 pm
hahaha. buddism isn't a religion.
and for your second point. you not taking active part of the religion, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:31 pm
1. Define religion then.
2. What if I believe that the sun actually alive and is a god. Nothing more nothing less. Nothing is required of me to do something, I just believe that the sun is a god. Is there religion there?
Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:47 pm
well buddism is a way of life. I am sort of a buddist.
for a definition of religion you could google it or something.
I think the maya's had a sun god type religion. since they are dead I'm not sure if using them for an example is still valid. but there's bound to still be sun god religions around.

Sure, why not.
Google search resultsFirst result shownWikipedia wrote:A religion is an organized approach to human spirituality which usually encompasses a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, God or gods, or ultimate truth.

But I think they made offerings to that sun god, that itself is a ritual which can be a foundation of their religion.

guess buddism is a religion after all. I always thought it was a philo.
I shouldn't have said that religion is for weak people then. I thought you couldn't have a religion without a god.
and yeah. I used maya's as a example of a sun god based religion.

Yeah, the distinction does get confusing at times, and we normal people aren't as versed to philosophy and religion as Kanye West does. God bless his humble soul.

I like a lot of his songs though.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:44 pm
Of course he has some nice songs, one can't proclaim oneself to be the voice of this generation unless one has something to back it up.

I can make a girl want to get married in two days. does that count?
Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:49 pm
Not unless it's a lot of girls. Not one, not two, not ten, a lot.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:54 pm

Some questions to atheists(Evolutionists)
With what did the first cell capable of sexual reproduction reproduce?
When, where, why, and how did life come from non-living matter?
What is so scientific about the idea of hydrogen as becoming human?
Do you honestly believe that everything came from nothing?
Thank you
Thu Jun 11, 2009 11:31 pm
those are something that science would someday answer. mankind once thought that the earth is flat, many also thought that it was the center of the universe, but these were all corrected later on. it's science.
so, i've got a question for you, vinceair. how come you never answer comments on your stupid posts? You honestly believe everything in the bible? Aside from you, who created God?
You're welcome.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 11:43 pm
Who created God? Wow..

That's a good one.

Your mom.
When, where, why, and how did life come from non-living matter?
It didn't, necessarily. Everything is theoretically "living" in one way or another. Even gasses and carbon. How can minerals boost our health, per example?
What is so scientific about the idea of hydrogen as becoming human?
Not much, because no one has ever claimed that hydrogen became human.
Do you honestly believe that everything came from nothing?
You're missing the point.
