Liverpool Football Club today issued the following statement regarding the future of Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms.

The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately.

Well, there we go.

£142 million fee.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... -liverpool
Barcelona have put together a package worth a basic fee of £106m, plus a further £36m in variables of which £26m should be easily met. After the £105m basic, an additional £17m would be payable for the first 100 games Coutinho plays for Barcelona, £4.4m per 25 games. A further £4.4m would be paid for Champions League qualification in the first two seasons with a £4.4m bonus for winning the competition.

Apparently it was Klopp's decision to sell him because he didn't want the distraction in the dressing room. Now he has to sign a quality replacement to justify it.

This transfer proves that money, especially £142m, will always make sense even if selling a player halfway in the season.

I read somewhere that the owners left the decision up to Klopp, and I guess that he figured that he can sign a quality replacement and it won't affect our top 4 chances.

Now for 3 weeks of media speculation about who we will sign

i don't understand the barca perspective. they have already won the league and they won't be able to play coutinho in the cl, so why now?

Who knows? Probably just because they could.

Liverpool ended Man City's unbeaten league run in typical fashion. Go 4-1 up playing brilliant football, then concede two late goals and almost choke the win away  :applaud:

I never thought I'd see a Liverpool player have a better season than Luis Suarez did in 2013-14, but Mo Salah really has surpassed it. He is unstoppable right now. He's up to 28 goals and 9 assists in 30 league games.

The quarter finals in Europe have been drawn. In the CL it looks like two one-sided ties and two pretty even ties. I'd put my money on Atletico winning the Europa League now.

Barcelona vs Roma
Sevilla vs Bayern Munich
Juventus vs Real Madrid
Liverpool vs Manchester City

RB Leipzig vs Marseille
Arsenal vs CSKA Moscow
Atletico Madrid vs Sporting Lisbon
Lazio vs Red Bull Salzburg

CL Semi finals for Liverpool again after 10 years. Klopp owns Guardiola, with 3 wins in 4 games against his "unbeatable" team this season.

And what a result by Roma. Winning 3-0 in the second leg and knocking out Barcelona :o

It's really impressive how guys like Ronaldo and LeBron are still playing at such a high level at age 33. Special athletes.

Not really. Most of us have moved on because we are still playing great without him.

The funny thing is he will get a winner's medal if Liverpool win the CL, but wouldn't have if Barca had won it.

Semi final draws have been made. Interesting that the two strongest teams in both competitions will be playing each other.

CL:
Liverpool vs Roma
Bayern vs Real Madrid

EL:
Atletico vs Arsenal
Marseille vs RB Salzburg

I'm really happy to get Roma. Obviously they will still be tough games, but probably not as tough as playing Bayern or Madrid would have been.

Since it helped get my hometown team into the A-League grand finals, might as well post it here.

Love Ernie Merrick's reaction

It's refreshing to see Newcastle doing well again. Really hoping someone other than Sydney win the grand final.

The Knights are off to a decent start in the NRL as well. Just a shame we don't have an NBL team.

Well, that was a disappointing way to end an exciting season :(

Two horrible errors from Karius and a world class goal from Bale killed us. But Ramos injuring Salah in the first half was the thing that really killed our chances.

Real Madrid have now won 3 CL in a row, and 4 of the last 5. They really own this tournament.

I wonder what the big transfer saga will be this year. Griezmann to Barca? Ronaldo or Bale leaving Madrid?

It was Salah that initially hooked Ramos so you can't blame Ramos for finishing it

Salah tried a sneaky tactic, Ramos retaliated and it backfired on Salah.

It's simply justice.

If you can dish it out you must also be able to take it, which unfortunately for Salah didn't work well for him.

Bale leaving Madrid for sure. CR7 acting suspicious but I don't think he will leave this season. Going to PSG or MU isn't really a better option for him.

Neymar might join Madrid, that'll be fun to see.

@shadowfuks, you are wrong.

I think I saw Bayern linked with Bale. He would be a good replacement for the pensioners Ribery and Robben.

Liverpool are not waiting around after the loss. Just announced the signing of Fabinho from Monaco for about £40 million.

Image

I think it is an amazing signing. We needed a solid defensive midfielder and he is arguably top 10 in the world in that position.

With Naby Keita already joining, our midfield is looking so much stronger. Nabil Fekir from Lyon is supposedly close to signing as well, but that may not happen until after the World Cup.

Also, Liverpool are targeting Jan Oblak from Atletico or Alisson from Roma to replace Karius. I don't think either club would sell right now, and if they do it will be very expensive.

Zidane has resigned from Real Madrid. Weird timing just days after winning the CL again.

It's funny to me that I still think of him as a young and inexperienced manager, despite everything that he was won.

La Liga: 2016–17
Supercopa de España: 2017
UEFA Champions League: 2015–16, 2016–17, 2017–18
UEFA Super Cup: 2016, 2017
FIFA Club World Cup: 2016, 2017

I wonder who they will replace him with. I think Sam Allardyce is available :cheeky:

If Wenger replaces him and wins a CL, Arsenal board might as well close the club

Zidane would have been the GOAT manager if he ended his career as a manager just after this stint. But he will most likely manage France.

I didn't like zidanes style. He seemed a bit hard headed and managed to piss off great players like like James Rodríguez and Gareth Bale

One's overrated the other is Mr. Glass.
Zidane did the right thing benching Bale, to conserve his health.

One true mistake Zidane made was not giving more play time to Isco for most of the season.
