For all NCAA related topics. If the thread is active enough we may expand and have an NCAA sub-forum, but for now lets just try the thread.

hell if I had it my way the NBA would be one and done, or best of 3 trading home courts and then neutral court for the third game.

I used to advocate one and done but I've seen the light. The kids don't give a damn about education, they just show up for a year and declare out. Waste of scholarships. One and done leads to crap like Derrick Rose having to allegedly have someone else take his SAT for him. One and done leads to Brandon Jennings playing in Europe and lowering his draft stock. And then I hear word that the NBA and NCAA are thinking of increasing the requirement to two years?

Just go back to the way it was before. High schoolers ready for the NBA should give it a shot.

wow, I'm an idiot

I thought you were talking about the tournament, not the one and done NBA policy.

It needs to change, either make the kids spend 2 years out of high school or just let them in.

really, just let them in. if the kids pull a sebastian telfair and then realize they're not good enough to make the cut and blow what could've been a stellar career ---- mcdonalds needs more cashiers.

one and done "improves" the nba at the expense of college coaches and college teams. it's putting teams like DUKE at a disadvantage because duke (and a few other programs at that) usually sign players who aren't in it for just one-and-done. hell, duke is even reluctant to sign players who usually don't give a strong indication of staying 3-4 years. that's why they didn't go after john wall heavily til later in the spring....and the one-and-done system distorts college basketball.

usc has to stop being a goddamn revolving door to MSG.

Gotta love March Madness. Definitely the best basketball viewing around. Quality might not be of NBA or even Spanish ACB, but at least the passion is second to none (Y)

Simply put, everyone has the right to try and fail. I see what the NBA is trying to do and it's noble in a way, but I'd rather they abolish the age limit.

If the NBA is still afraid of the kids not being mature enough to handle the requirements of being a pro athlete, require them to be in the D-League for 1 whole season. That's what the D-League is for.
Maintain the age limit, for playing in the NBA only, but the limit doesn't apply to drafting players or the D-League.

The drafted youngster is still subjected to the rookie pay scale so even if he is in the D-League he still gets paid properly. People will take attention to the D-League because of the "rookies" to be watched, more money for the league. The league gets to "help" the players develop under the D-League. The only thing that may not benefit from this are the teams that will draft the kids because they won't be able to use their pick for a whole season.

There's an idea, though I still think you could abolish the age limit and leave it up to the teams to recognise that a player isn't mature enough or polished enough in terms of his basketball skills to play in the NBA and send him to the D-League accordingly. In the D-League they've got an official minor league that they lacked up until earlier this decade (even with the working relationship they had with the Continental Basketball Association before that), a good setup for grooming young players for the pros.

Let's not get carried away now...

Lol anyway, I'll be expecting a lot from John Wall's freshman year at Kentucky. With the similarites to Derrick Rose, it'll be interesting to see him playing under John Calipari, Rose's coach at Memphis. Lance Stephenson's also another guy I'm looking forward to see play.

On topic, here goes a few of my favourite college moments from the late 90's:

- John Wallace Syracuse/Georgia 1996 finish that I put here: http://forums.nba-live.com/viewtopic.php?p=1083749#p1083749
For those with a keen eye, you might notice Shandon Anderson playing for Georgia and throwing the pass that leads to the go-ahead 3 for the Bulldogs. This was my introduction to college hoops and I've been hooked since.

- Arizona vs Kentucky 1997 NCAA Championship Game
phpBB [video]

Both teams were pretty stacked. Kentucky had Ron Mercer, Derek Anderson, Nazr Mohammed & Scott Padgett to name a few. Arizona had Mike Bibby, Michael Dickerson, Miles Simon (Final Four MOP) & a pretty nifty 6th man in Jason Terry. I remember this being a great game. How far Miles Simon fell from his one shining moment. Terry was my favourite player from the Wildcats. Bibby was a stud freshman too.

- Byrce Drew buzzer beater for Valpo to beat Ole Miss in 1st Round upset at 1998 NCAA Tournament
phpBB [video]

He only got a chance to win it as Ansu Sesay (Mav's early 2nd Round pick in late 90's bricked 2 FT's), but what a shot & what a moment. This shot propelled the Bulls to waste a mid-1st Round draft pick on him

omg! That guy is going to be the reason 1a why Kentucky competes for the final four this year. Demarcus Cousins is a legit NBA prospect to go along with their solid core of returners (Pat Patterson).

Michigan State are my boys though. Kalin Lucas is the most unappreciated player in the NCAA.

I saw a replay of the Kentucky win over UNC. Was my first chance to see John Wall play. My impression is that he is very quick, seems quicker than Derrick Rose was at Memphis, that's for sure. He made some great plays, pulled it out a bit & slowed down when necessary. He's cocky & arrogant as hell though. Hopefully the NBA will lessen that somewhat.

I somehow doubt it will...even bad players think they're hot shit for being in the NBA. Really i think it boils down to where he ends up in pros...if he ends up somewhere he's not #1 it might humble him a bit...if he goes somewhere he's the main option: i'd doubt it
