Rudy Fernandez wins the Slam Dunk contest vote

Allen Iverson passing on family values:

A.I.: son, what you doing there?
A.I.'s son: practicing my math for my test tommorow
A.I: practice? practice? we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test - practice. we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test, not the test - practice.

I voted 4 Rudy over Alexander and Westbrook, Fernandez is more fun and creative, hope he does well.

I voted for Joe Alexander but no matter, I'm sure it'll be a fun contest. I'd rather Westbrook was in there over Robinson though.

what the hell?

in his youtube videos he does 1 actual practice dunk for us, do you remember what it was? A very basic two handed dunk.

What did Joe do? nothing really, just hit his fuckin nose against the rim.

Look at Rudy Fernadez's in-game dunks, they are pretty damn good, for in game situations. Take out the D, what does he have for dunk contest dunks? Nothing. I really hope he proves me wrong but this dunk contest comes down to Gay and Dwight. Gay was stupid last year and I don't think he wouldn't come back unless he has something amazing to show off and Dwight I am sure has more tricks up his sleeve for his defense. I really hope I am not the only one sick of Nate in the contest and I already bitched about Fernandez.

Just absolute bullshit, I hope Alexander puts out a new video showing off his would be dunks to rub it in all of your faces after we see Rudy Fernadez do 2 alleyoops with his incredible 25" vertical jump and get eliminated.

Joe Alexander seemed kind of arrogant, and reminded me of Jamario Moon.

From the dunks and plays I have seen, Rudy Fernandez has good creativity along with his athletic ability.

What the hell was Joe Alexander thinking with his favorite dunk? It was a simple dunk from under the rim. He contradicted himself saying winning the dunk contest would be a notch below getting drafted, but then sais it would be the highlight of his life. He hits his head on the rim(a few times) to warm up. That sais he's a retard from many small concussions. He said he was going to bring the best dunks of the year, the best we've seen. He's arrogant.

That's what I thought, but it was this video that lost Alexander the contest.

Again, that is a great in-game dunk from Rudy F, but that doesnt mean crap in a dunk contest.

I really do hope he shuts me up and proves me wrong. But what do you think he will do in the dunk contest?

As much as I really like Rudy as a player, probably the worst choice out of the 3. Let's hope he proves me wrong. I just wanted to see Jumpin' Joe in there.

I like Rudy too as a player, but I believe that either Joe or Russell could've won the votes for the dunk contests. Maybe if this is a put up or shut up deal for me with Fernandez, and I really don't wanna sit there wait after 20 attempts by Nate Robinson feeling like deja vu.

Not to harp on old issues, but with three confirmed contestants and three more interested in participating that we could vote for, it would've been a fine opportunity to expand the field back to six and let them all show us what they can do at the event itself.

Jeeze, I prefer Russell Westbrook over Nate Robinson and Joe Alexander over Rudy Gay. I dont mind Rudy winning the contest though, after all it just shows that fans wants him.

I've been saying that all the time Andrew. They need to deepen the field on what they use to have it as. It pretty much went downhill after that Wheel Of Dunk. Like that old mimicking game show Wheel Of Fortune.

There's probably too many events on All-Star Saturday now, the Shooting Stars contest could certainly stand to be cut. I guess it offers an opportunity to include past greats and the WNBA but it's the least entertaining event and sometimes it just gets ugly when they get to the halfcourt shot. Take that out, or maybe move it to the Friday night with the Rookie Challenge and celebrity game and you can expand the dunk contest field back to six, let them have three dunks per round with the top three advancing to the finals and consider dropping the need to use a teammate on a dunk (but certainly allow it).

Only way Rudy advances against the other 3 is if he takes that guitar and bashes their heads in. Westbrook or Alexander would have been nice, and Nate's practically a regular in the contest now. Here's hoping Rudy can pull out some sick dunks or Howard defends his.
What was Westbrook's video, or did he even have one?

Hy guys !

I'm a big fan of dunking, I saw all the NBA dunk contests and I'm an ok dunker myself. I think the decision to let the fans vote a player is one of the worst ever. I mean, spanish people world-wide voted for Rudy just because he's spanish, not having dunk knowledge. I have to say that I didn't see Rudy dunking so much but from the ones I saw he's avrege, at most. I hope to God he doesn't embarrass himelf. Rudy Gay is another dunker who doesn't really deserve to be into the contest, he likes to jump off one foot and that doesn't give you a lot of air(as height) to do some insane dunks, so he has to be creative with his dunks( maybe jump outside the free trow line :) ) So the only two players we can expect a show from are Dwight and Nate. I just hope Nate is going to bring it this year because he has the hops and the creativity.
The bottom line is that the NBA should make a dunk committee or something. They have to revitalize the dunk contest.
Al Thorton, Bill Walker, Russel Westbrook, Derrick Rose  , David Lee, Trevor Ariza....and a lot more young-guns would have deserved to be in the Contest a lot more than "Mr. Vota por mi"
By the way, I voted for Alexander ! White LeBron, as they call him

The wheel and online fan votes during the judging of the contest probably remain worse ideas though.

To revamp the dunk contest, they need to bring in some great leapers ouside of the NBA to participate, and stop the lower scoring that happens due to dunks that we have seen in the contests past. A windmill is a pretty hard dunk to do, but would be considered basic in the dunk contest. Not that it would deserve a 50, but they need to judge the dunks based on the actual dunk itself, not the level that was defined by previous dunks or contests.

Some of the scoring is based on creativity though so originality is going to win points with the judges but I agree, there should be a few standards that if pulled off properly will net decent scores.

Players outside The League?! C'mon man ! That wouldn't be the NBA Dunk Contest anymore. What they should do is get some all-time great dunkers like Dr. J, Kenny Walker, Nique....Kenny Smith :) and assemble a committee or something where the players can send some videos with their best dunks and sign up for the contest. As simple as that ! Then the veterans there just choose the 4 best dunkers, or in my opinion, they should have 6 contestans. I know this idea it's a bit childish but think about it: It's the simplest way ! You avoid players who can't participate due to their team's policies and you know what type of dunkers you will have, so you make some teaser commercials and you advertise the contest, then people wiill be excided and you might just have a sell-out crowd, sell some merchandise. There are a lot of great dunkers in the league that would love to be in the contest, the problem is they don't have enough exposure...I don't even know how they pick the contestans? By in-game dunks ? If that's the case they should get Shaq in the contest, brake some backboards  I bet he would be better than Fernandez though.

Well that's a point too, the teasers they've been posting are cool but they also kill suspense and arguably set the bar too high. I think Jamario Moon screwed himself last year by teasing the dunk from way behind the free throw line.
