USA Team

With the Olympic qualifiers this summer, who would you invite to play for Team USA?
PGs: GP and Jason Kidd
SGs: T-Mac, KB8, A.I., and MJ(leadership, experience)
SFs:(real SFs, I don't like the West All-Star Team with two PFs in the lineup)Antoine Walker and Grant Hill
PFs: Tim Duncan and KG
C: Ben Wallace and Jermaine O'Neal(no reason to invite Shaq)

for me, if i can pick anyone one from any team, the team will like this:

PG: Jason Kidd, Gary Payton
SG: Tracy McGrady, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant
SF: Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce
PF: Tim Duncan, Elton Brand
C: Ben Wallace, Jermaine O'Neal, Shaq O'Neal

i pick shaq and kobe because they are good players, though i don't like them.

why wouldn't you invite shaq?..i'd place him over Ben Wallace...he was completely exposed in the world championships because he couldn't hit a shot..his D is good..granted..but overall Shaq is a much better fit.
I'd pick Chris Webber over Antoine Walker too..Webber plays nothing like a PF and is more of a SF so he doesn't fit your "PF in SF role"...Walker jacks up too many threes.

I would pick:

C Shaq, Wallace
PF Duncan, Webber, Garnett (i could play KG as SF)
SF T'Mac, Pierce
SG Kobe, AI, Ray Allen
PG Kidd, Payton

The lineups will change depending on the opponent.

(I think that's Jennifer Lopez on the picture)

I think I heard that Shaq said that he wouldn't play if Larry Brown was coaching.

Pierce won't get invited because of his play and attitude in the World Championships last summer.

Ya it is J. Lo. I got the pic off of mtv.com but if you got Kazaa than you could probaby find some that are better.

Yeah, I heard that too. Must be all the trash Brown was talking about Shaq in the Finals two seasons back. He was on Shaq's case after every game, talking about how he commits so many offensive fouls and that he stands in the key for over 5 seconds every trip down the floor. Although it could be just cause Shaq destroyed the Sixers.

I bet Shaq would still play..i think he was probably just saying that to pressure the people that chose the coach to pick phil jackson instead

Well it didn't work. I hope he does play do we can see him destroy the rest of the worlds frontcourts. Team USA would not lose with Shaq in.

Heres my lineup

Center: Shaq,
Power Forward: Duncan, Webber, J. O'Neal
Small Forward: Grant Hill, Garnett. V. Carter
Shooting Guard: McGrady, Bryant, R. Miller
Point: Kidd, Payton

Starting Five: Shaq, Duncan, Grant Hill, McGrady, Kidd

Hill starts over KG cos' he'll gel the team better without having to score. Has got excellent handling, court vision, distribution skills for his pos.

Duncan, O'Neal, and poss. Garnett can cover Shaq at C

Vinsanity gets in on his long range shooting ability and oh yeah....I heard he had some hops or somethin (Sorry Paul Pierce)

Webber can alternate between SF and PF, he has the versatility.

Reggie Miller is the token old guy in the team, MJ would be nice but we all know he ain't gonna play again for Team USA even if he was asked to. Reggie is also the guy you need when the game is on the line and you need a big shot. The others are good but Reggie owns the clutch.

McGrady starts cos' hes just playing the best right now.

Kidd starts to help establish the lead and rhythm, Payton comes on to make sure the lead is kept, and put on defensive stops.

Shaq....yeah well Shaq is Shaq.

This team represents enough skill and talent to kick the rest of the world right up the pooper no matter whether the starters or bench are on court.

Who does everyone think will be the contenders come the Olympics. Does anyone think that anyone will give them trouble even if they send the real best players?

Speaking of the us team iverson wants to play in 2004 post your thoughts

I don't think it would be the best move to put Iverson in. Don't get me wrong he is a great player, but the game that he plays does not fit in with what Team USA has to do. There are better players ahead of him too with TMac and Kobe both playing and Kidd and Payton sure to get the point guard spots

The only problem i can see with iverson playing is his style of play. He is used to being the go to guy and on a team full of superstar i don't know how well he will do in that eniviroment.

Second thing, Larry Brown is the coach of the 2004 olympic team, so in theory in theory Iverson will likely blame Brown for not being on the team which would likely start some fistacuffs.

Third, this is what makes things interesting Brown, although he is the head coach, has no influenence on the selection of the players. Hopefully this is all worked out and we don't have to hear about AI's relationship with Larry Brown

But Tinsley's not Dutch, so he can't.
