Sources: Allen Iverson to serve as head coach/player in new BIG3 league

Hall of Fame guard Allen Iverson has committed to serve as a head coach/player in the new BIG3 three-on-three professional basketball league that’s set to launch this summer, sources told The Vertical.

Iverson will be one of eight dual head coach/players in the league, which is backed by entertainment icon Ice Cube and includes Roger Mason as president and commissioner.

Iverson is scheduled to appear at a news conference in New York on Wednesday to discuss his part in the league’s summer launch, sources said.

Among other players committed to the half-court league, which is set to travel throughout eight cities and venues this summer: Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin, Rashard Lewis, Jermaine O’Neal, Stephen Jackson and Jason Williams.

Games will be played in half-court settings and will feature 4-point shots, designated by three large circles several feet beyond the traditional 3-point line. Games will be played to 60 points and there will be a seven-minute halftime once a team reaches 30 points.

Ex-professional players over the age of 30 will be eligible to play. Teams will consist of a player/captain and four teammates and there will be a draft in March.

League play will start on June 24 and conclude on Aug. 12 with games being played every Saturday in different cities. All teams will play games on each Saturday. Players will receive 52 percent of league revenue.

Might be fun to watch. If there's going to be four point shots, they need to get Antoine Walker involved.

This 3-on-3 league will reflect the early 2000's basketball.

Wish Darius Miles and co could attend too. I hope so
