What Will Durant Do?

Postby Jeffx on Tue Jun 21, 2016 10:49 pm

As we head into the off-season, the big question is "What Will Durant Do?" Imagine him going to the Warriors......damn. They'd dominate for the next 5-7 years.

I think he inks in with OKC for 1-3 years max

Edit - 2 year deal with player option after 1.

Sign a 1 year contract with OKC while waiting for the cap space to go up even more, and then next year he'll sign a 5 year max deal with OKC or some other team.... we'll have to see who.

Either way, he's about to be paid a lottttt of money in the coming years.

I wouldn't say it's set in stone, but I see it as a similar situation to Tim Duncan in 2000, or Chris Webber in 2001: a lot of talk about where Durant will end up, teams making their pitches, but ultimately he stays where he is. It's not like he's in a bad situation in Oklahoma City; it was a disappointing end to the season, but they were damn close, a few costly mistakes that let the series slip through their fingers. It's something that can be a learning experience and a catalyst to making needed adjustments, not a clear sign that a team is dead in the water.

This OKC team perpetually seems to be one piece away from winning it all, plus, Westbrook must be one annoying fuck to work with...

So, if I was Durant, I'd leave. Not to mention the fact that OKC is a shithole and a small market.

They have made 4 of the last 6 conference finals and could well have won a a title by now if not for injuries. They will always be a contender as long as Durant and Westbrook are there.

And Durant doesn't seem to care about what size market he is in.

I think that bodes well for OKC. They have a strong team and it's full of guys that Durant has basically grown up with.

I don't see why he would leave, unless he wants to take a shortcut to a ring by joining Golden State. But he doesn't seem like the type of person who would want to do that. Especially after how heated the recent series was between them.

It's not like playing in OKC has left Durant strapped for cash.

I can keep talking about how he'll re-sign with the Thunder, if you'd like me to really try and influence the mysterious forces that determine basketball outcomes.

It'd be in his best interest to stay put 1 more year and exercise bird right. The Thunder were a quarter of good basketball away from the Finals and the Warriors probably won't get better with Barnes going away so they will have another legitimate shot next year with current squad intact. Next offseason however will pose to be a tough one for the Thunder with both RW and KD becoming free agents altogether. Lakers theory isn't entirely out of question as they will keep their cap flexibility.

The Celtics would make a perfect place for Durant. I know that for a fact.

the celtics have enough pieces to put together a good team around him, but i doubt he will be leaving at all. he will visit a ton of teams and let his ego swell then resign

Lakers Rumors: Kevin Durant Reportedly Won't Meet with LA Regarding Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers may be hoping to accelerate their rebuild through free agency, but if early reports are any indication, they won't be in the running to land this summer's biggest prize.

Citing "a person with knowledge of [Kevin Durant's] situation," USA Today's Sam Amick reported the Lakers—as well as the Washington Wizards—"are not expected to" secure meetings with the four-time scoring champion.

On Friday, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers were all "working to solidify invitations" for recruitment sit-downs with Durant.

Amick added that following their trade for former MVP Derrick Rose, the New York Knicks "have earned their way onto Durant’s radar."
