This is the first time in a long time (that I can remember) that all the teams in the playoffs were .500 or better. Am I right that this is rare?
Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:17 pm
The last season the Sonics made the playoffs marked the last season to date, before this season, in which no playoff team had a losing record.
Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:18 pm
Not all that rare, it's happened a few times in the last decade. This is the first year since 2005 though.

and my interest in basketball other than the Celtics expanded around 2005, which would explain why i think it was so rare.

Here's a random question. Off-season additions like Turkglu and Jefferson have been a disappointment. It seems some of them are going to hurt the team with the contract, or just by being there with the team. Who was the biggest disappointment in terms of how they'll affect the team in the future.
Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:25 am
You mean of all-time, all players who changed teams last offseason or just between Turkoglu and Jefferson?
Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:26 am
Just last off-season.

I knew about Boozer, but the others were a surprise. Green
e is more of a German name, so that makes sense, but Randolph was the biggest surprise.

Gordon's contract is arguably worse as it's larger and balloons to as much as $13 million if he opts into the final year, though between injuries and coming off the bench he had a worse season than he's capable of having. I'd probably give it to Turkoglu though due to his age, as he'll be 35 at the end of his contract and his salary is set to increase every year. His acquisition failing to pay off and the difficulty the Raptors will have improving their roster due to their payroll could possibly see them lose Chris Bosh this offseason as well.

What's the most amount of FT's missed in a game by someone who shoots more than 85%?

No idea, best I could find is this Jordan game:

Devastating that acquisition of Turkglu can play as a huge factor for Bosh to leave the Raptors.
Ben Gordon also hasn't lived up to the new contract he signed last season, but that can be due to the injury so excusable, I guess.
As for Villanueva, I don't think the expectation on him was that high but understandable since his contract is pretty huge for a player like him.

Jefferson on the other hand is only signed through next season, so perhaps the Spurs can move him to a team looking to clear cap space. If some of the big names opt in to the final year of their deals and test the market in 2011 instead, then there'll be another scramble to trim the payroll over the next year. A player like Jefferson would be appealing as he could well contribute in the short term and then give them the cap relief. Otherwise, the Spurs can benefit from his expiring contract themselves or keep him around if things ultimately pan out. As it stands, they finished the season fairly strong with a record of 50-32, so it was far from a disaster.
