Hmm. Lakers had a chance to beat the hated Kings but couldn't and the Kings blew the Lakers out in the 4th quarter to turn what was otherwise a close game into a Kings blowout.

I miss the days when this rivalry actually meant something. Does anyone remember the days when Phillip would deride Sacramento and call them a "hick town" , and all the bad blood in that rivalry? It's a pity the days when those two would meet in the playoffs have long gone. :x (N)

The Laker's could of came back, if they would of pressed and got a few steals and gave the ball to Kobe for some more 30+ foot 3 pointers... They could have. T-Mac and the Rocket's did it, I'm pretty damn sure Kobe could of done it, but they just gave up.

now Kwame has to do that against Kristic, and Kobe and Lamar have to out-play VC and RJ and Smush has to be smart against Kidd in their next game...

The Lakers on a 3 game road trip. Hope to pull out a 2-1 record for it! (Y)

Numbers Don't Tell the Story on Brown

The Lakers' Kwame Brown held his ground against Shaquille O'Neal and bothered Tim Duncan to no end, so it only made sense he would draw Kevin Garnett when Minnesota came to town.

The edge, somewhat surprisingly, might have tilted in Brown's direction.

Garnett made only four of 14 shots, was held to 16 points, more than four below his average, and acknowledged he was not in rhythm Wednesday because of Brown.

"He played a hell of a basketball game," said Garnett. "He's out there working hard, just like I'm out there working hard."

Brown doesn't have the tenacity and reaction skills of Detroit center Ben Wallace. Nor does he have the speed/strength combination of Phoenix forward Shawn Marion.

But he does muscle players out of the post, a sumo wrestler more than a leaper and blocker. His defensive numbers are mild compared to Wallace and Marion — only 5.6 rebounds and 0.6 blocked shots a game — and his offense continues to lag, but his physical post presence is invaluable to the Lakers.

Last week, in a rare victory in San Antonio, he helped hold Duncan to 12 points.

"I don't think people appreciate the defense he gives us," Phil Jackson said. "We certainly understand that he makes it difficult for people on the block. He has a strong body and he can hold guys off the block and contest shots."

^^ Thats what I'm talking about!

Tough loss tonight. Oh well, the undefeated run will just start the next game.

I really think the Lakers need to switch it up a bit on those last second shots. I say the Lakers cuz they are the one drawing up the plays and I dont believe that would would run a play for someone and and Kobe selfishly takes the shot everytime (I think we woulda heard Phil complain alot more). Yes I would love to see Kobe hit them but they need to keep it honest as they seem to just force it in to Kobe and say a prayer when there are 5 guys around him. Give Lamar or Devean a shot every now and then as its become too blatantly obvious who is gonna take it. Before they used to give guys like Horry and Fisher shots and they came through so they need to continue on that pattern of getting other guys involved in late game situations. It will only help Kobe out in the long run cuz then people wont run as much people at him in the final seconds of the game.

Thing is... there's not really anyone else they can give the ball to. As far as that's concerned... Lamar wouldn't be a good choice; he's not that great a shooter. However if you mentioned Brian Cook... I'd get Cookie the ball but Jax may not trust him enough yet. But I agree, draw up plays for other shooters because chances are that the other team will double up on Kobe all the time in a tight situation.

EDIT: yeah, also after watching the game highlights, that last shot for Kobe... he could have given it up to Lamar who could have passed it to the wing to george (Was that him there)... either of them would have had a better and open look at the hoop.

Yeah, thats the thing. even though Lamar's (or Smush etc) jumpshot may not be the best it is still better than a wild 3 point shot fading away into the stands (Thats the kind he gets in these situations with all that pressure). Plus all these missed shots are on him, make somebody else miss them every now and then.:)

If the Lakers keep playing like this, then their only hope of making the playoffs is if the teams above (Sacramento) and teams below (Hornets, Jazz) keep losing

They are 8th right now. It doesn't matter how Sacramento does, unless they want to move up in the standings, which of course they want to do, but they have to be more worried about, like you said, the teams below them. Even so, the Lakers got a big game, kind of a rematch, against the Kings on the 24th. Depending on how each teams does until then, it'll be a big game.

I'm not too worried about New Orleans and I dont believe the Lakers will crumble much like they did last year. They will probably play just over .500 ball for the rest of the way and make it in.

Wait... I meant they will go undefeated for the rest of the year. :)

:o I was about to say something about that until I read the last part.

It can happen, they can win 15 games in a row if they wanted too. They just... don't want to. :(

Remaining games:
  • @ Cleveland
  • @ Boston
  • vs. Kings
  • vs. Bucks
  • vs. Hornets
  • vs. Spurs
  • @ Seattle
  • vs. Rockets
  • @ Denver
  • @ Phoenix
  • vs. Clippers
  • vs. Warriors
  • vs. Blazers
  • vs. Suns
  • vs. Hornets

Only 5 road games left, and 10 home games, with their last 5 games being at home. They should play above .500 in these games. I predict maybe 9-6... I mean 15-0.

Home games dont mean shit to LA if they dont decide to play hard. As Jax says... dont worry bout whether its home or away... focus on the game. Right now, LA needs to focus on what they want to do. Do they wanna make noise in the playoffs? Or make themselves look like fools against he likes of the Mavs, Suns or Spurs? <-- that also means making the playoffs in the first place.

47 wins is the P-Jax minimum, and they need 13 wins to get there. They don't have the talent to do that, but they have the heart to. They just don't want to use it. If they step up their game each and every night (ala vs. Detroit and @ San Antonio), they will be unstoppable.
