was there a coach to coach trade in nba?

I have a weird feeling that a coach or a GM or someone was involved in a trade decades ago but I can't remember who was involved in it. It was a strange trade whatever it was. I think two owners actually traded teams as well as players but I can't recall what players were involved.

I don't think a coach or GM has ever officially been traded but there's possibly been a case where two coaches have left/been fired and ended up replacing one another; I can't remember it offhand though. Larry Brown faced the Pistons in the Playoffs and ended up coaching them the following season and the Heat had to send the Knicks three picks in 1996 as compensation for Pat Riley leaving New York for Miami prior to the 1995/1996 season. Those are the closest examples that come immediately to mind.

There have definitely been ownership swaps though. John Y. Brown traded his ownership of the Buffalo Braves to Irv Levin for the Boston Celtics, with Levin moving the team to California where they ultimately became the Los Angeles Clippers.

Brown swapped franchises with Irving Levin, the owner of the Celtics. Levin took his team to San Diego, while Brown took over the Celtics. It could be argued, then, that it was the Braves’ franchise that actually signed Larry Bird and won championships in the 1980’s.

The teams also worked out a huge trade as part of the ownership swap. Boston acquired Nate Archibald, Billy Knight, and Marvin Barnes. San Diego acquired Freeman Williams, Kevin Kunnert, Sidney Wicks and Kermit Washington. The Celtics retained the draft rights to Bird; he had been taken earlier in the summer even though he wasn’t leaving Indiana State until the following spring. On July 7, the NBA approved the transaction, which was brokered by an attorney named David Stern.

Jan Volk, the Celtics GM at the time, stated: "Red and I went down to Washington to meet with agents representing (Kermit) Washington and (Kevin) Kunnert, both of whom were being traded in the transaction. Red and I were not aware that this was happpening at all. We went down and finalized the deal. The next morning the franchise swap was announced. Apparently, the franchise swap was contingent on these contracts having been negotiated, finalized and signed. We were like the Japanese ambassador who was meeting with Roosevelt while Pearl Harbor was being bombed. We were absolutely in the dark".

I seem to recall talk of him making a conscious effort of avoiding settling for the three as much that year, possibly at Scott Skiles' request/suggestion. He's gone back on that approach since.

How did Shane Battier go from averaging about 14 and 5 in his rookie year to suddenly dropping down to 10 and 4 in his sophomore year (and pretty much all his other years give or take); basically becoming the player he is known for today? I realize that when looking at his career stats on NBA.com, that he started only half his games in his sophomore year compared to regularly in his rookie year. What other factors? Like injury (then coming back and accepting another role), offense running differently, coaching etc.

Nine fewer minutes per game and a bench role. Per 36 minutes, his numbers in his second season are comparable to his first, only two fewer points per game.

That'd be the 1986 Bulls who qualified with a 30-52 record (MJ's second year in the league, when he missed all but 18 games with a broken foot) and were swept by the Celtics in the first round, the same series in which Jordan scored his record 63 points.
