"For me and millions of others who literally grew up and came of age during the Kobe Bryant era, Kobe was as much a part of life as the seasons, the California sunsets, death, love and taxes. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but when the sun goes down tonight, a monumental part of our youth will be settling into the night as well."

Well put. Thank you for the memories Kobe. Legend.

Scott reportedly fired. It's not fair, but that's the business... Even Phil would not be able to overcome Jimmy Buss's mismanagement and an extremely young but talented roster with the most available veteran leadership being Nick Young

Re: Lakers Thread

Mon Apr 25, 2016 6:25 pm

Scott was in a tough position, but it was still highly questionable as to whether he was the right coach moving forward.

Re: Lakers Thread

Mon Apr 25, 2016 7:28 pm

Not fired, more or less his option wasn't picked up by management.

Good move by the management. Who should be the replacement?

Re: Lakers Thread

Mon Apr 25, 2016 9:15 pm

Hey, you guys want Kurt Rambis????

Re: Lakers Thread

Mon Apr 25, 2016 10:06 pm

jackal's dream come true

too bad thib's off the market now tho

Re: Lakers Thread

Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:10 pm

Yeah I think alot of non Minny fans are feeling the pain of Thibs being off the market, not that Phil Jackson would of hired him anyway.

I think this pretty much opens the door for Luke Walton personally.

Re: Lakers Thread

Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:11 pm

lol no. He had a good record in gs because of the team comp.

Oh I totally agree Kevin to some respect, I think anyone could coach the Warriors and come away with a decent win tally.

It's hard because you don't really know what his coaching is really like till you give him a rebuilding or middle of the pack type team but in this day and age teams jump at hype.

to play devil's advocate- is GSW so good they can coach themselves in games, run their own practices?

Woj is reporting the lakers will consider Luke Walton, Jeff Van Gundy, Kevin Ollie, Ettore Messina

I'll say the system that Kerr put in GSW is so good that they can win by themselves without him.
Just shows how Mark Jackson was holding back the team when his roster is about the same as Kerr's.

George Karl to the Lakers. Man knows how to develop bigs and guards, like Randle and Russell/Clarkson.

Re: Lakers Thread

Tue Apr 26, 2016 6:06 am

We'll see how good the system is for at least the next 2 weeks

Bring back the player coach!

Re: Lakers Thread

Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:07 am

We won't, that system won't mean much if its most important part is out.

Re: Lakers Thread

Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:22 am

Stop hijacking the lakers thread with that talk

Why did the Lakers fire Scott only just a few days ago? Did they not want a shot at Thibs or Brooks??

Re: Lakers Thread

Wed Apr 27, 2016 10:30 am

Clearly, they're going to make a run at Kurt Rambis.

Andrew wrote:Clearly, they're going to make a run at Kurt Rambis.

But why? Other than "oh, he's a former Laker player and Laker coach"?
He hasn't had any real success anywhere as a head coach (other than being handed the championship Lakers team and failing with them). What makes the Lakers think that's going to change now?

Re: Lakers Thread

Wed Apr 27, 2016 12:20 pm

That was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, a facetious suggestion as to why they waited until those other players were off the market before firing Scott. I'm suggesting they don't actually have a logical plan in place.

Re: Lakers Thread

Wed Apr 27, 2016 12:51 pm

Is it true Jeanie buss will take over the team after next year... The same time Phil Jackson can opt out of nyk?!

Re: Lakers Thread

Wed Apr 27, 2016 12:54 pm

I seem to recall that this season was the original deadline in the ultimatum, but apparently her brother has been given another year to get them on track. So yeah, let the Jax to LA speculation commence.

Of course, whether he'd actually do a better job is also debatable.
