problem for the lakers is that the type of "help" they need is a huge commodity in todays nba. players who can and will give it their best, be effective, and put up good stats even though they don't touch the ball very much are rare. the problem is doubled by the fact that kobe gets very little of his points in the flow of the offense, and thus disrupts everyones offence save his own. also the clippers seem to be a more favorable free agent destination than the lakers right now, meaning basically that they (the lakers) have very little trade bait, very little free agent attraction, and mid draft picks to build from. not good.

Very true.

As well, LA needs players who only live for basketball. It seems a lot of players lose their interest in the game when going to LA or NY and become more infatuated with the idea of being celebrities. They need guys who can be surrounded by 30 models and would rather go to the gym to practice their jump shot.

So I was watching KIA NBA Shootaround on ESPN last night and 2 of the 3 analysts (I count John Saunders as the host and not an analyst) said the Lakers would be in the Western Conference finals this year. I myself was very shocked to hear this seeing that I really don't think the Lakers could beat Dallas (even though they did twice for some magical reason in the regular season) or Phoenix (see last night's game). If the Lakers would miraculously enter the playoffs they would probably be swept or get their asses kicked in the first round but I don't see them going to the conference finals. This is too far of a reach and the NBA analysts on NBA shootaround should know better than to make outrageous accusations like this.

I think the Lakers have a very slim chance of advancing to the 2nd round, but if they do, I'll then consider bryant a better player than KG/T-Mac

I used to hate kobe a lot during his rookie season, cause he always hoisted up those long treys, he'd take them a couple of steps away from the 3-pt line. And when he started scoring 15+, when glen rice was still around, I used to smirk at the sound of his name, the "jordan wannabe" i'd call him. These days i respect him if not only for his physical ability, and his guts to challenge his dream of going up against the best. During his rookie season... He played in the all-star game and went up against jordan, went at it and looked foolish. Which would you rather have on your team? A jordan-wannabe, whose gonna give you the performance of his life, just because he eats, sleeps and breathes basketball, or a VC or T-Mac, who'd demand trades or slack-off, just because they don't like the way things are going.

He might still be a cut below MJ, but I haven't seen many players with fire in their eyes like his. With all his flaws, I don't see any reason why he can't surpass MJ... Remember that not everyone liked MJ, even when he was at his peak...

Trying to get this thread back up instead of the Kobe Talk, here's a nice read. (Although it is Kobe related.)

They are and he's also more pass oriented this game.

Refs doing a horrible job in the overtime btw. Horrible calls.

1 point win is still a win. Kobe had a 'bad' game but still finished with 30, 5 and 8... I think he's trying to prove he's not a 'one man' show. Ah well, still clutch as hell. He definitely had the last laugh! (Y)

It didn't matter how bad the Refs calls were... because the Warriors were just horrible. They took nothing but 3 pt shots it seemed, in the 4th and in OT. The Lakers really caught a break, they (LA) turned it over so many times and Fisher, Murphy, and Baron Davis all fouled out in the game. Also, J Richardson was injured, and Dunleavy got a sprained ankle in the game.

Even with all those people out of the game, the playcalling was just horrible. The Warriors definetly deserved to lose this game.

All in garbage time tho... but he also did it against Eddy Curry.

A putback dunk, 4 layups, 2 free throws, a hook shot and a four footer... So i guess it shows he's developing well.

Kobe adds his name into the scoring record book again... Only player other than Wilt to average 40 in a month more than once.
