A bit of both, probably. Since no one else is stepping up and the bench is unreliable, Kobe is taking it upon himself and trying to too much. Ideally, Derek Fisher shouldn't outscore the bench.

I was watching one of the laker games and they made a really good point that Kobe wants to prove he can play with a broken finger.

And yeah, Fisher is playing terribly and to outscore the Lakers bench. Farmar and Vujacic have got to step up and be sparks off the bench.

Just watched a nice game by the Lakers, especially Shannon Brown (halfcourt shot and 2 blocks  ) and Andrew Bynum really plays good without Pau, hope those 2 play well in the upcoming roadtrip

I don't know, I could see him pulling out similar tricks with his leaping ability, rather than resorting to corny props.

I think Brown has enough juice to pull-off power dunks a player his size. Kind of like 'Nique.

It's logical, but i seriously don't think he could jump over a guy and do between the legs or similiar stuff to that.

Why couldn't he? NBA players jumping over other players in the dunk contest is hardly unprecedented and Shannon Brown certainly appears to have the leaping ability to pull it off.

I've read in LA Times reports that Shannon Brown does some pretty crazy shit at practice...

Plus he was in one in HS against LeBron James...

And am loving this report. Very much doubt it is any bit true!

Re: LA Lakers Thread - Bosh for Bynum?

Postby NBABaLLa23 on Tue Jan 12, 2010 12:32 pm

Shannon Brown can pull off a between the legs dunk with ease first of all, I think he would have a slight advantage coming into the dunk contest due he his large hands like Dr.J. He is able to pulled of some quite impressive dunks , he nearly pulled off a 360 dunk from the ft line in the HS All-American dunk contest so the dude can rise.
I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot.

Re: LA Lakers Thread - Bosh for Bynum?

Postby Andrew on Tue Jan 12, 2010 2:58 pm

True, but it certainly helps when you're trying to jump over someone or get high enough to perform some midair tricks with the ball. From the dunks we've seen Shannon Brown perform, I don't think it's inconceivable that he could possess enough athleticism and creativity to be entertaining in the dunk contest. Talk of what he does in shootarounds and practice is hearsay but further fuels the speculation all the same.

As for the Bosh/Bynum deal, it's certainly eye-catching but sounds more like idle speculation at this point. I'm not sure the Lakers are dissatisfied with Bynum enough or worried enough about their ability to compete - when healthy at least, and even if they were to bring Bosh on board Gasol's health is a completely separate matter - which are the two things I'd say would have to hold true for them to be considering a major trade.

Yikes, got beaten by the Spurs pretty badly. And Kobe out with back spasms. :(

On the plus side, Kobe was 7-10 from the field tonight, better than 4-12 from the Milwaukee game!

that is a pretty damn bold statement there

Seriously, we're talking about the human highlight film. Wilkins was that special special player that did dunk contest worthy dunks during actual games on a consistent basis (special mention to vince carter toronto years)

I was talking about big man (power) dunks being done by the 6'4 Brown "kind of like 'Nique' " being capable of doing power dunks done by center or 7-footers. Not saying that Brown's dunk repertoire are on par with Nique's packages.

But yeah, still a pretty bold statement.

Not happy Lakers lost a close one to the Cavs. Lebron James took over and the Lakers missed a few key opportunities.

Ah well, onto New York... but I have a bad feeling about this. :(

Bad foul by Artest at the end there but perhaps more the result of Varejao's scrappiness. You can't just let him get to the rebound, but when you get that physical and hook the arm, you force the referee to make the call and Varejao's tenacity paid off. Great game with a result you can't really enjoy if you're a Lakers fan. Not being a fan of either team, I'm not so hampered. ;)

I don't know about that, I wouldn't be surprised if Kobe rips them for 50 or so.
