Very pleased about our last 3 games since the Atlanta loss. The guys have really done well for themselves on this road trip and Kobe alongside Gasol has been a great duo with Odom there supporting.

Tonight we beat the Bobcats after another efficient outing for Mr. Bryant and Mr Gasol. Kobe had 31 pts on 9-17 shooting (shot 10-15 yesterday) with 5 asts and Pau had 26 pts from 9-11 shooting to go with 6 rbs (34 minutes though I'd definitely to see a bit more boards). Great result I feel especially after Felton had a great shooting night at 11-20 from the field (usually shoots 41%). I also cant tell you the last time Nazr Mohammed scored over 20 pts but he did it tonight. Ah well, the train moves on.... :)

We live in a visual culture so I'll add a couple pics for the heck of it. :)

If I attempt to describe what Pau looks like everytime he drives to the basket, that would be the ultimate description
seriously though, how the fuck do you expect to make your shot with your eyes closed and screaming at the top of your lungs?

I dunno but if he continues to have 9-11 shooting games he can do it all he wants.

and last time I checked, Jared Dudley is like 6'7" and 220 and Pau is 7' tall so it's not like he ran into Shaq or anything.

Yes, If this happens, all the kobe haters will eventually agree that:

Bynum > BigZ
Gasol > Gooden
Odom > Larry Hughes
Fisher > Snow
Vujacic > Pavlovic
Radmanovic > marshall
walton > newble
turiaf > varejao
farmar > gibson

You take drugs don't you? I know the playoffs is a different atmosphere but the lakers have lost their last 5 games vs. the cavs and lebron has outmatched and shut out kobe in the last two. I remain quite confident about them beating the lakers but if they don't I certainly won't be making any excuses.

Not sure how that's shutting him down.

Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:12 am

Did you watch the game? Did you see the defense put down on him? Do I need to post a recap of those games? He was unable to make crucial shots in those games when lebron guarded gim in the 4th and his last shot was blocked by hughes and those were the times when he was shut down. LeBron doesn't guard kobe the whole game hence why his numbers were still decent.

Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:30 am

ya'll know what's disgusting, that Kobe has never finished top 3 in MVP voting. Here is a guy universally recognised by fans, coaches, GM's, scouts, and players as the best in the world and he's never finished better than 4th.

I watched both games, recaps will be unnecessary. When people say someone was "shut down" they are generally referring to the whole game, not just a few possessions. I'm not sure where Larry Hughes contributes to LeBron shutting Kobe down though, and going by a larger sample size (3 seasons, not 2 games) this is how Kobe has performed against the Cavs...

Jan 27 2008: 33/12/6
Dec 20 2007: 21/5/5
Feb 11 2007 - 36/7/6
Feb 15 2007 - 34/6/5
Jan 12 2006 - 27/2/2
Mar 19 2006 - 38/6/5

So in the last six games against Cleveland he's averaging 31/6/5. If they meet in the play-offs I have no doubt the Lakers will probably only drop 1 game, as great as LeBron is his teammates suck while Kobe's are superior all over the court now. The Cavs have only beaten them by 3 and 4 in the last couple of games, add Gasol into that and I'm not sure the result would be the same.

In both games the Lakers had "weak link" players, Kwame was one and Walton was in the other game. Unless Odom or Gasol were to have a series of really bad games, I think they'd handle the Cavs. They just don't have the pieces to compete, they'd have to rely on Hughes, Ilgauskas and Gooden all firing up for every game and I can't see that happening.

Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:22 am

Quick question, then the seriousness can be brought back.

If Bron Bron is such a shutdown defender on Bryant, why doesn't he just guard him the whole game? Wouldn't Bryant have poor stats then?

It's not because Bron Bron would be winded, right? Wouldn't it be logical for Bron to want to guard Bryant all game, with his stellar shutdown defense...I don't understand why he doesn't. He's such a standout defender on Bryant that I'm certain something like being tired wouldn't affect his decision to guard Bryant. This way the Cavs would win with more than just a couple of points.

Then again LBJ has to do everything on his team including providing all the offense so then ofcourse he can't guard Bryant, as I said, he'd probably be too winded.

Or...it could just be that he's not good enough to defend Bryant during the course of a whole game. They smack Bron on him at the end of the game when Bryant is probably tired himself and let's not kid ourselves, Bron is a fine physical specimen so Bryant fucking up isn't that amazing. Bron is good, no doubt...but to go to the length of making it sound like Lebron is the true blue Kobe stopper...

Oh what's the point...

Carry on.

I call it Gasol-trade envy. This happens when forum members are starting to feel the impending doom that their favorite player will probably miss out on the MVP award, given that their team isn't doing as well as the LAKERS for their man to get the hardware OVER BRYANT, when all he has on the front court in the tallest jump shooter in the NBA, Gooden and Varejao who can't make baskets unless it is off an offensive rebound. And the team that made the biggest trade robbery this season is falling into place nicely, and has its best player primed to get a chance at the MVP award, where he has missed it despite stellar numbers in the past seasons.

Thu Feb 14, 2008 11:26 am

FYI...kobe having a teammate putting up 30 point games regularly hurts his chances for winning MVP according to some analysts. However, I believe in fairness and going by how they have been awarding the mvp trophie over the past few years....chris paul, nash or garnett deserve it. Certainly not LeBron and certainly not kobe; LeBron is 23..he has many years left to get his. So I don't know who the fuck you think is trade envy but it aint me.

To each his own then. I think the cavaliers could win even if they have Gasol and Bynum...i think LeBron's influence on his team is that good if they are all healthy. Don't be decieved....the cavs record is reflection of Lebron's injuries this season where the team lost every single game whenever he was out. Fact is...they are an elite team when everyone is playing.

My point remains however..in the last 2 games where they guarded each other in the 4th...kobe was generally shut down on crucial plays. He was either unable to release a shot or had it missed because of LeBron's presense. I have no doubt in my mind the same will happen again whenever they face each other.

Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:41 pm

Yes, to each his own. Whatever will take away the pain that the freak occurence that happened, which sent the Cavs to the finals last year isn't going to happen this year, because the Celtics are such a powerhouse and they rock! :headbang:

Moving on with the Lakers, nice drubbing of the wolves today. Having completed an unusually long road trip. At 9 games, it is one of the longest road trip in the modern era. And the Lakers were able to compile a 7-2 w/l record on that trip. (Y)

Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:01 pm

Anyways...:)

Great outing by the Lakers tonight in a 117-92 win over the Wolves. We grabbed 51 rbs, had 29 assists, 10 stls and 7 blocks. All starters were in double figures lead by Bryant with 29 and Sasha had 15 off the bench. Pretty much everybody who saw the court got on the scoresheet.

I'd say the man of the night was Lamar Odom who continues to rebound like a monster (until Bynum gets back) with 16 rbs, 10 pts and 10 asts. Guy was balling out there tonight.

Gasol definitely had a good game as he dropped 19 pts, 9 rbs and blocked 3 shots. Shot 9-11 :) from the field and I gotta say I'm loving the rate at which he's converting his buckets.

Good day. :D

Wow...that was the lamest attempt at goading someone i've ever seen; Mighta worked when i was 10 though. I'll trust that whatever happens and whoever gets to the finals will deserve it. Lets just sit back and see..shall we? :)

Wondering if Kobe picked himself.

Fri Feb 15, 2008 6:24 am

Hell no.
Kobe isn't scared of Kobe.
With that in mind, I wonder what 'scares' Kobe.
He's certainly not afraid of losing, with the number of clutch shots that he takes, more like angry at losing.

(No police/rape jokes please)

Fri Feb 15, 2008 7:03 am

Hi mates! :D
The matter is:
1)For how long Kobe will keep up scoring in a somewhat selfish way, after the addition of Gasol...
2)Is Gasol afraid of scoring, considering his role in the new team?

Fri Feb 15, 2008 8:56 am

:|

Scoring Kobe not selfish been has Gasol trade since. Gasol well score does he and up step have others.

Everyone has a poll..espn had one a few weeks ago where over 35,000 people voted on who they thought the best player in the league and 55% said LeBron and 45% said kobe. Polls are like people expressing their feelings and opinions....and we all know opinions are like assholes...everyone has one. Although this one does take more precidence(sp?) because these were professional athletes who voted. However I wonder if reputation alone played a bigger factor than it should considering 12% voted for shaq. I question the merit of such a poll simply because of that.

Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:45 am

Tried some Maths..

242 players x 12% = 29.04 players

Those 29 players are probably centers for the 29 other teams. That is if Shaq didn't vote for himself.
