I'd rather have a guy who will start out as an impact player and will continue to improve down the line than to spend 3-4 years watching some kid sit on the bench and talking about how he could be an impact player one day. Especially when some people are looking like they will never pan out (Bender).
I criticized the Brand for Chandler trade for the same reason.

I see Okafor more of a college superstar than an nba one.
He will probably have decent numbers but thats all.
I would compare him to battier, who used to be a college superstar too but hasnt confirmed in the nba.
