I think Kobe will play but even if he doesn't, I will always have faith in my team.

PHX: 92
LAL: 101

Bell's mom better get ready to give a hug to his insecure and neglected son.

Being in the UK sucks, cant watch this game so its checking NBA.com first thing in the morning for me :x

If Kobe plays, I think we have a fairly good chance of winning, but in the preseason they played a full squad against our kobeless side and we still won, only time will tell though. Im stupidly excited to see Kobe again this year, if he's still on the same scoring pace as last year or even a little less its going to be great fun to watch, the team seems to have improved a lot as well, we may push up a seed in the playoffs but its a long way off yet.

Preseason doesn't mean much... don't get ur hopes up... realistically, even with a 80% Kobe... we will most likely lose to the Suns cause we dont have Kwame or Mihm... If Bynum doesn't get killed by a crippled Amare, look for many writers to call him 'the next shaq is here' and stuff like that. (N) Damn media hype.

I'm still rooting for LA but I wouldn't be too sad if we lose to the Suns.

My prediction : Lakers go 82-0.

So excited the real games begin now. Will surely be watching this one tonight whether or not Kobe plays. (y)

Someone don't let Smush start and i will be celebrating with a (B)

Wed Nov 01, 2006 3:18 pm

Well, I'm pretty darn surprised we are keeping close with the Suns...

And I'm pretty stoked that Smush Parker has 6 boards and 7 assists and has only taken two shots... not sure if that's good or bad though...

EDIT: Even without Kobe playing, the Lakers are elading by 8 :D Lamar Odom has sho the ball 17 times!!! He's seen the light :D yay!

And stats don't tell the full story but damn, Bynums doing decent out there! And whats with Amare's 11 minutes and 2-2 for 4 points or watever... did he get hurt?

EDIT 2: :D What a game haha... good to be able to see the last quarter for my team! This is great and seeing Steve Nash on the sideline lookign really cut... priceless :D And Phil is looking good! Great to see him back!

Good game to start the season! I'm proud of the Lakers :D Bynum idd really damn well... something to laugh at was Lamar Odom calling Abdul-Jabbar the greatest center of all time, I wonder if he meant it haha

THE LAKERS WIN!

a great play by all of the players without Kobe (Y)

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:18 pm

Kobe looked really happy :D I'm pretty damn happy haha

Great work by Odom who really took over the leader's role and Andrew Bynum, I was never a fan, is making me wanna say that Kwame and Mihm can take a lil while longer to rest.. however, I wouldn't say Phoenix had anyone as big as Bynum after Amare stayed out. Did I hear correct that he got benched cause he started playing crap after 5 minutes?

Ah well... good game! (Y) Really stoked we won :D

i fucking hate living in canada. i don't get enough lakers game; i missed both openers tonight. saw the box score though and quite frankly i'm not surprised with odom's output. the guy was straight kicking ass the last 2 months of the regular season + playoffs. 34, 13, 7.... nice.

bynum though, i'm really surprised. hopefully he can be consistent. kwame needs to step his fucking game up when he gets back.

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:20 pm

Yeah, Odom wasn't a surprise since he's really gotten into his comfort zone... all that remains to be known is whether Odom can do it for the rest of the season.

Bynum though is definitely a pleasant surprise :D

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:23 pm

Odom's performance tonight showed why I think that he's the Lakers' best player. He's got an inside game, outside game, is a monster on the boards, a great playmaker, and picks up a few steals defensively. He's a 6'10" point forward that drew comparisons to Magic coming into the NBA, and finally has stepped up his game.

I feared the Lakers I saw tonight would have a chance to beat the Suns, but the thing is they're a completely different team with Kobe in the lineup, so who knows what will happen when Kobe's back.

Maurice Evans looked like he played alright. Stoudemire had a nice dunk and that was it, hes taking it easy, if he was at full force it might have been a different story. Good win in the end.

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:29 pm

i just hope the lakers dont start deferring to kobe when he returns. in exchange, i hope kobe defers to his teammates and not dominate the ball just yet..

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:34 pm

Evans is a great underrated talent. He played really well in Sacto a few years back (Y)

and good luck in getting Kobe to give up the ball. :P

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:35 pm

Kobe had a huge year last year because the Lakers needed him because they were in a time of transition... I expect Odom, Walton, Smush, Kwame, etc to be able to play with Kobe and share the ball and I think Kobe will do the same too.

I don't think Kobe will have such a big scoring year as last season purely because we don't need that. When Kobe returns, he will be on the court leading with Odom and the two will help the Lakers to the playoffs. :D

It's good that the guys are seeming even more confident than the first half of the first round series... I'm just really excited for our side and hope that they don't ever look like they did in Game 7 again!

Just so long the Lakers don't rush Kobe back and the others keep playing at this high level consistently, I'm just real excited. I think we can add a few more wins to get to 50 for the season but we will just need to wait and see!

On a side note, Maurice Evans is about to save Kupchak's reputation in my eyes if he keeps up his play. I agree with some other beat writer who says that Evans will be one of the surprises of the Laker season. :D

What dream world are you living in??

Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:38 pm

Living in reality bitch :P

Yeah well, if I'm wrong then so be it. I still have faith in the team and Kobe. I think he's a different player now, I really do.

For everything you want to know about the Lakers, read Flea's article : http://www.nba.com/chat_and_mailboxes/flea.html

Flea's kool, he's Aussie :D

I was quite the consistent reader of Flea's blog last season. Great man, extremely talented! Seeing him April the 13th along with the rest of the peppers. Anyone the track titled "Magic Johnson"? Good stuff. What can i say, pretty impressed with LA's game. Odom played very well. Hopefully i can catch the reply tonight.

Wed Nov 01, 2006 6:29 pm

Kobe may be back for our third game (Y)

Wed Nov 01, 2006 6:39 pm

:D :D

What a season opener!!!

Haven't watched the game yet, but it cant get better than owning the suns on a comeback, without kobe and starting drew. :D :D

Wed Nov 01, 2006 9:55 pm

I think after watching tonight's game, Kobe might be tempted to sit out a few more games until they start losing.

Wed Nov 01, 2006 10:00 pm

I think he can learn a lot about his team mates from sitting out. (Y) Maybe more wins from the team without him will make him trust them even more...

And QBaller, are you saying Kobe should sit out so that he can rest or you saying he will be tempted to so that he can put on a whole 'I'm a hero' act?

Wed Nov 01, 2006 10:02 pm

What you should have said was...
