Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

jonthefon, Gotta agree with you. This trade would make the Bulls a turrible defensive team, and add an unnecessary chucker into their starting five. They do this, and its just asking for LeBron to destroy them in the first round again. Its like the Heat's big three except Rose is merely a solid starting PG (Who can't defend), Melo is an average possession sink (who also can't defend) and the best player is Boozer, who is injury prone (and isn't the world's best defender)

Now if we're talking Gibson or Deng, its a lateral move and potentially excellent salary dump!

LMAO. some Bulls fans would rather keep Gibson then have a chance at a player like Anthony?!

who the hell is this Taj Gibson guy?? did he make the all nba team? Lamrock- do you know of him?

wow i haven't gotten this wet since the bulls were going to get Lbronze james. oh wait...

If you guys get Anthony, then I get $20. Taj Gibson or Luol Deng would be a good deal (especially the former - Melo could be a pretty good 6th man!). However, its never a good idea to trade your best player (who's also a fairly young big man) for a poor man's Corey Maggette. If Denver's smart, they take Noah for Melo in a heartbeat.

I don't think anyone's suggesting Gibson's an untouchable star, it's more about thinning the rotation at power forward. I guess as long as Boozer stays healthy it's not really an issue and they've got Kurt Thomas for a year so yeah, it wouldn't exactly be a disaster. Beyond that, it's just a question of chemistry and whether Melo is interested in sticking around beyond this season. Those are just a couple of thoughts that spring to mind while weighing the pros and cons, I'm not declaring it a terrible deal that should never be done.

Noah for the Melo on the other hand...I'm not so keen on that.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

this is absurd. Gibson may as well be called untouchable. you are hesitant to trade a career backup player for Carmelo Anthony (25yrs old), while at the same time finally get rid of Luol Deng?!?!?!

do you realize that this deal in the first place is ridiculous on Denver's end? They trade away their franchise player and don't get a lottery pick in the top 5... no player that is young and on the verge of stardom. heck they're not even getting back a player that's even made an all star team.

Answer this- What is ENOUGH for Taj Gibson???

and obviously you make the trade with assurances that Anthony will resign...

do you seriously believe that the current Bulls team has very little depth up front? :?

Nobody is calling Taj Gibson and Deng for Melo's expiring a bad deal. However, Gibson is the quintessential player to throw in to a trade package for an all-star.

I think ultimately I'd have to do the deal if it's Gibson, but not Noah.

I said that i wouldn't want to be Gibson instead of James Johnson.
But of course getting Melo would be great even giving a really stable backup at the face of Gibson.

Considering the Positives and the negatives every deal bringing Melo in Chicago is great, though the Joakim Noah one,is pretty risky.
Melo is a superstar, but losing Noah,a guaranteed double double and a great defender and a leader,I don't know.

Let's be patient and if a deal is made, hopefully won't include Noah, even meaning that Melo will be a Bull

I'm with air gordon completely on this,Gibson is no more than a solid backup PF. Trade him while his value is high, like you should've done with Deng all those years ago.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

If they include Noah (and Gibson) in a deal and Anthony doesn't re-sign after the season, then their frontcourt is screwed. with just Omer Asik there.

I don't disagree, but a solid backup power forward is worth having and while they'll still have Thomas, he's not a longterm solution as Gibson could possibly be. Whatever the trade scenario, I think there's a need to pause and reflect about whether you're solving one problem but creating another. But like I said I'd ultimately pull the trigger if it's Deng, Gibson and Johnson. I'd draw the line at Noah though.

Andrew, I actually don't think Melo is good fit for the Bulls (but is for Knicks). I do like what Noah brings to the the Bulls' team. If he goes, the whole dynamics will change. I just find it funny that Bulls fans are so enamored by Taj Gibson.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 8:50 am

I can't believe some of you Bulls fans. Noah was just a part of mere fringe playoff team. Can you even consider him in the top 10 game changing big man?

On the other hand, Melo quite possibly can be considered as the next best thing at SF after Bron.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

It's not Noah's value by himself, it's his value in relation to the team. If the Bulls lose Noah they become a donut on defense. It's like they go back to the past of needing a big, instead of on offense like in the past, the need will be for defense.

As for Taj Gibson, I say pull the trigger if the Nuggets want him.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 9:01 am

Well, its partly Noah's value by himself, considering he's a better player than Melo.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 9:16 am

I'm speaking in the POV of a Bulls fan. Noah has no value by himself to Bulls fans. It's all about Derrick Rose baby!

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 9:27 am

Yep. The crazy thing is that Noah's better than Rose as well!

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:06 am

Noah better as a supporting cast. And there're many compared to Melo caliber players.

The heck, Denver wouldn't do this even if Chi wanted.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:17 am

When has Noah ever been a "supporting cast" player? Its been more than a decade since the Bulls had a legit star player. Noah isn't a superstar, but he's a very good defensive big - top 4 or 5 in that department. Inefficient, cherry-picking, shot chucking swingmen like Melo are a dime a dozen.

Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:32 am

Good defensive big, that's about it. You don't build a team around a player like that.

Oh look, it's the Orlando Magic!

Bill Russell also sez hai.

Sadly, he's closer to Varejao than Howard too.

I can only speak for myself but for me it's simply having a solid backup power forward in the rotation rather than considering Gibson himself untouchable or something special. As I said, put me on the spot and ask me if I do Deng, Johnson and Gibson for Melo, I'd say I would.

Well, he's closer to being a top ten game changing big man than Melo is by far. The Bulls already have two players capable of putting up 20+ a game in Boozer and Rose, they need Noah's defense and rebounding more than they need to add Melo's scoring. If they trade Noah then their options at centre come down to Asik (unproven in the NBA) and Thomas (undersized, which admittedly hasn't prevented him from having a solid career but said career is in its twilight).

That's because Melo can't really be considered a big. Otherwise, I can't really agree with you there.

True that and I acknowledge that as shadow and others already pointed out the team's needs. However, in a long run, I'd go for Melo(although expiring, who knows) as his reputation alone can easily lure good players at affordable contracts. With a core in Melo, Rose and Boozer, I can almost foresee other good bigs wanting to join them just like it happened in the past and this year with the Celtics and Heat. Thus, by far, I think good would outweighs the loss if the deal happens. Perhaps you might think I give little too much credits to Melo, but there's no doubt he's a solidified superstar figure in prime atm.
