Boston goes after Rasheed Wallace

Fri Jul 03, 2009 7:32 am

An NBA source said that the Celtics offered Pistons free agent F/C Rasheed Wallace a contract using the mid-level exception today during a three-hour meeting in Detroit.

The Celtics All-Star trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, coach Doc Rivers, president Danny Ainge, and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck all attended the meeting.

While interested, the source said Wallace was in no rush to make a decision.

This is probably only one of the dozens of mid-level offers Sheed will get.

I secretly hope the Magic land him.

Didn't Sheed tell the media that he was going to only play for at least 10 million a year or else he'd retire?

What a greedy man

Other teams projected to be interested in his services are Charlotte, San Antonio, Orlando, and Cleveland.

Even with the man-love between him and Larry Brown, I doubt Sheed will go to the Bobcats unless they can give him his 10 mil.

Celtics, Spurs, Magic, and Cleveland are all going after him, he's in MLE paradise.

Maybe Latrell Sprewell had a word to him about it.

Man, don't hate...

He has a family to feed.

He really could. He's 36. He's not making the hall or anything. He's got his ring. He's done.

Sheed is washed up.

If so, then I guess he's retiring.

It mightn't be a bad move for the Celtics. Presumably they'll let Moore go if Sheed signs. Along with Glen Davis, that's a decent frontcourt to have coming off the bench behind Garnett and Perkins, even if Sheed's better days are behind him.

sheed in orlando fits better. i think carter in orlando fits as well. why? both are outside chuckers, which orlando loves... but carter creates his own shot is fairly unselfish, and drives to the basket from time to time... and sheed can help out defensively, and on the boards and has a good post game. to me, this makes a damn hard team to beat

c howard
pf wallace
sf lewis
sg carter
pg nelson

what would wallace do in boston? start at center?

Possibly, though I could also see him coming off the bench backing up centre and power forward.

He would do what Brown did when they won the championship. Come off the bench, hit some jumpers and get some rebounds.
Besides, they don't need him to produce 20 and 10. Wallace is just an upgrade over Moore.

It's just up to Rasheed to be comfortable with and accept that role, if he feels he's at that point in his career. If he does still want $10 million and a starting job, he's not getting that from Boston.

Well... he signed with the Celts for 2 years for the mid-level.

All I can say is... fuck.

This might sound bad, but I really hope they don't stay healthy.

Another reason for me to hate the Celts  .

Any time wasted hating something, you lose a chance to be loving something or one.

all I'm saying is hate in your heart will consume you.

Let the hate consume me then. I don't like the Celtics either. (N)

On topic: I'm glad Wallace left his pride aside and diceded to play for the MLE. He may get another ring now. :)
(Although I hate Boston, I'm a big fan of Wallace)

I wouldn't go so far as to guarantee that the Celtics will be back on top this season but it's a good move for both sides. Wallace should be an upgrade on Moore and he won't be the focal point of the team, so it's not as though their success rests squarely on his shoulders. Meanwhile, the Celtics will probably start to slip and look at rebuilding/retooling in a couple of years and the MLE won't break the bank, so it's a solid enough investment if Wallace can give them some good minutes in a more limited role.

Health is still a major factor for boston. They do know have some aging players

Re: Boston goes after Rasheed Wallace

Mon Jul 06, 2009 11:29 pm

Celtics got Wallace who can't manage his on court nerves. I don't expect more than 8-9 ppg.

Re: Boston goes after Rasheed Wallace

Mon Jul 06, 2009 11:39 pm

He's probably not going to play too much more than half the game, in which case 8-9 ppg would be pretty productive.
